TRASHED & FILTHY: Unbelievable Before & After Laminate Furniture Makeover

- This transformation is like night and day. I did what I could to keep this 70s laminate and wood dresser full of mouse droppings out of the dumpster. It's sturdy, but just terribly neglected. It had no feet/casters, the drawers barely worked.
I used a new-to-me paint colour from Fusion, Wood Wick, and made a very diluted paint wash for the drawers out of the same colour, sealing with Odie's Wood Butter. I also added new brass casters; a bit of bling and the icing on the cake.

Side note- it's been brought to my attention that the auto-generated subtitles labelled "Hantavirus" (when I was talking about the droppings) as HAUNTER VIRUS. HAHA! Which is comical, but in all seriousness... it's Hantavirus. lol
Also- I just realized that in the video I said I paid $40. I didn’t! It was initially listed at that price but it was only when the previous owner dropped it to $20 that I contacted them. Sorry about that! Totally escaped me during the voiceover.
Beautiful!!!!
Ha, Ha. It would be haunting if someone got the Hantavirus from this. Wah, Wah! No punning around though, you did a lovely job.
Automated subtitles can be hilarious. I once watched a BBC drama where the subtitle read: "The suspect was seen jogging on hamster teeth." True story!
As a resident of Hantavirus country, yes, thank you for talking about being very careful!
Talented, resourceful, hard-working, honest as the day is long... you are a breath of fresh air in a world of coughing post-covid-idity. (a good thing in case you're wondering😜) I hope you never EVER change.
Love the process/ end result. Cheers Ang ☕ Pat x
You turned something ugly to amazing. Deffinetly didn't see the vision at the beginning. Angie you never fail to impress.
Thank you so much for watching Kevin!
Oh,Angie. I am near tears when i saw how it finished. The mismatched woods just look unique and quite beautiful in their own way.the paint being a quiet force that pulls the piece together. Hoping the hopping critters are all fine. Your mouser checked out and found no mousies!!! Thank you.
You turned something ugly into something really unique. Amazing work!
Love it Angie. You are amazing!
I discovered your channel and have watched every single video. I’m in Australia and love the snow scenes too. 😊You are so creative and artistic and I love watching you work. Love the bunnies too, as we’re not permitted to have them as pets where I live. You are an inspiration to those of us beginning to refresh and refinish lonely furniture pieces. Thank you.
Angie, you are the best furniture flipper/refinisher on CZcams! ❤ (IMO)
You're biased ;-)
@@TranscendFurnitureGallery ummm maybe so but I’m sure I’m not alone in this opinion ;)
@@TranscendFurnitureGallery
No, he is right, you are the best
It’s not biased if it’s true! I have to agree with her! And I’m so grateful for everything that you do- you have no idea! 👍🌟🤘
(Loved that Willow didn’t find anything wrong- kitty approved!)
I love Angie because she teaches and has amazing taste in music.
If y'all want some fun, check out Modern Makeovers. Talented, hilarious Asian kid. No speaking, no music, the occasional caption to give you his thoughts, but what really sets him apart is his video production. It's absolutely top flight. Time well spent.
You knocked that one out of the ball park! The drawers’ grain actually look to be a work of art in themselves : the heavy grain, variation of type, size, color of that wood grain in total combines into the look of an abstract painting. Brilliant, stunning, perfecto!
Thank you very much!! 😀
exactly
I personally love those warm neutral tones-very soothing. The drawers remind me of reclaimed barn wood. Great call keeping the original hardware. Beautiful!!! Angie, you've done it again! ❤
Thank you so much!! I'm so glad you like how it turned out. 😀
I'd rather see mismatched woodgrain over paint anyway. Love it as always. ❤
You turned this humble little dresser into a quiet beauty. I really, really like it and anyone would be proud to have it in their home. Love the natural wood and I'm glad you stuck with the original hardware as it's really pretty.
Thank you! 😊
It is hard to believe how nice pieces like this can actually be. Beautiful job.
Thank you so much 😀
"There is sometimes beauty in imperfections." Yes! The mismatched color and grains of the drawer fronts are what give this piece it's interest. I love your attitude and your work.
Thank you very much! 😊
Honestly, Agnie, these are probably my favorite pieces from you. I love seeing the beautiful, expensive pieces come back to life, too, but it's so cool that it isn't all you do. I wish we would all reuse and revive common things and make them beautiful. There's something poetic in that, and it's good for everyone.
I appreciate your comment. Thank you so much! 😊
Thank you for the privilege of watching such beautiful work. You're making our world better one piece at a time
Thank you so much 😀
🍭SWEET! As usual, you cleaned, sanded, drilled, painted and totally NAILED it ❤
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you like it!
Wow!! Angie, you’ve done it again!! It’s hard to believe that this is the same dresser!! The result is stunning, and I love that paint color!! 😍❤️
Thank you so much! 😊
Great choices for completing this piece. Final result is real worthy of anyone’s home.
Thank you very much! I appreciate that! 😊
Bravo! You took a 'fugly' throw away and gave it character and warmth! I love seeing what you can do with pieces like this!
Thank you so much! 😊
WOW. What a lovely transformation! The end result is amazing. Thank you for not only saving a neglected but decent piece of furniture from the landfill, but also giving it a gorgeous glow of beauty. Those tawny shades are so rich! And the brass accessories are perfect. Great job as always :)
Thank you very much! 😀
Amazing! When you said "mismatched drawers" I remembered the piece you did where the drawers were all different types of wood and one of them was elm!
Yes, that one was soooo different!
The paint color is perfect with the varied wood tones on the drawer fronts. 🎉
I'm so glad you like it!
You are such a master rehab-er, Angie. I personally like asymmetric wood grain, so those drawers are attractive to me, "interesting patterns" is another way to look at them.
Thank you very much! 😊
Gorgeous! I love how the paint color calls out some of the natural tones in the wood to tie it all together. It’s very balanced. Love it!
Thank you so much! 😊
I love it! It's GORGEOUS! The variations on the color of drawers are AWESOME! Yes, it's better than the other, older set you transformed... it's WARM and CONTEMPORARY! Thanks so much for sharing
You're most welcome!! 😀
Now THIS is definitely trash to treasure! I love the natural beauty that you brought out in the drawers, Angie!
Thank you so much! 😊
I love how you preserve and elevate these “lesser” pieces, exposing the natural beauty that people once thought should be hidden. Those drawer fronts are stunning! And thanks for letting us into your thought process, including “I’m trying this technique again, because I think it can be better.”
Thank you so much! 😊
I know I’ve binge-watched too many of Angie’s videos in a row when the Reveal Song is stuck in my head for the entire day. 😁
😂
Turned out great.
Thank you so much! 😊
As always...magnificent job!
Wow, thank you!
Wow 😳. You're right, I would have never thought that dresser could be so warm and beautiful! What a transformation!
Thanks so much! 😊
Those new, shiny rollers on underneath the dresser make me smile. I love that little bit of bling even though many people wouldn't care. I'm glad you did.
Glad you like them!
The wood on the drawers looks so much nicer than the faux wood finish. Great job.
Thank you! Cheers!
🤣🤣🤣 That was my grandmother’s bedroom suite except it was all blond finished and two nightstands. I recognized the handles. 🤣🤣🤣 The last time I saw it was 1987 on a visit to Rochester NY. Great job rehabbing it.
That's funny because my grandmother had the matching highboy. I wish I could say that I last saw it in 1987, but it's still at the cottage!
That is awesome!
Your attention to detail and desire to save these older pieces came to the rescue again. Great job!
Thank you so much! 😊
Sometimes its enough to just do your job - be a sturdy piece of serviceable furniture. Its a bonus if Angie makes you beautiful. The hardware was perfect and those casters are adorable. 👍👍
Thank you so much for watching! 😀
You certainly did do it justice Angie. It’s now a very respectable and unique piece of furniture x
Thank you very much! 😊
It's hard to believe that's the same piece! I'm utterly amazed with the transformation 😊
Thank you! 😊
Angie I think you don’t give yourself enough credit for the amazing transformations you do as well as the education along the way!
And while MCM isn’t my aesthetic, I simply love this! Great job!
Thanks so much 😊
I love the drawers with their differing tones, hues, and grain look. Very unique!
Thank you so much for watching! 😊
This looks so good now! The paint and washed drawers go so well together and because each drawer has different grain with variations of color, it looks deliberate. The more I look at it, the better I like it! 👌👌👍👍💕💕
Thanks so much! 😊
Unrecognisable Beautiful new look would fit so well in any decor. Love it ..Thankyou for all the hard work
You're so welcome! 😀
My initial reaction was, “Girl, you’ve got your work cut out for you”! I never could have imagined what you did and how beautiful it turned out. You truly are an artist, Angie ❣️ Once AGAIN Fabulous!!
Thank you so much!! 😊
I feel this is how you get the natural, imperfect look that farmhouse style seems to strive for - without the shabby parts. You made this into such a classy, surprising piece, with that bit of muted drama brought on by the mismatched wood. Loving it!
Thank you so much! 😊
Just love how this turned out!!! Thank you, Valerie
Thank you kindly!
I love the wood grain variety on the drawers. I love the paint color. As I look up from typing this comment I see the color of the steel siding on our house. It is the same! Great job as always!
Thank you very much! 😊
Angie, you are nothing short if a magician. From the mousy dumpster worthy piece to this piece that is interesting, eclectic, and yet has a classy flair. I'd love to have a piece like this in my guest room!
I'm so glad you like it! Thank you very much! 😊
That turned out to be a beautiful piece of furniture. It will be a great addition to anyone's home.
Thank you so much! 😊
I love it! I do these kinds of furniture. I don’t discriminate 😂
That is wonderful!
Yay top 69 comments. Love this channel. Best to you and your family. Thanks for making this video.
You're very welcome! 😊
That turned out so much better than i thought it would.
Thank you so much!
One of my favorite transformations you’ve ever done. In my culture when someone makes an amazing dish that warms people inside out, we say, “You put your foot in that!” Certain family members’ recipes can be copied to a T but will never come out the same. This is what makes you such an incredible artist: no one can do what you do. They can use all the same products, tools, and techniques, but it just wouldn’t come out the same. You have a gift. 💜
Thank you so much Lynn!
Eeee i made it just in time!
Yay!!
Nice!❤
Angie, you have done it again ! BEAUTIFUL !!
Thank you very much! 😊
You're so right about perfection and symmetry, often it's the imperfection that highlights the full beauty.
Absolutely! 😊
Yes, the higher quality, but very neglected pieces that you refinish are truly stunning. But the lessons you teach us about not overlooking these humbler pieces and recycling, upcycling, and renewing them is priceless. It's why I appreciate everything you do here on your channel. A beautiful piece, as always.
Many thanks!
I love this. What a rescue! Your channel never fails to deliver. Thank you for rescuing furniture and saving our landfills.
Angie you're an artist! We can see how involved you're and that's not just for flipping or making a video, and your voice is definitely a plus! Thank you.
You're very welcome! ☺️
I think this is one of your best transformations. So many of these items go into landfill everyday and you’ve made something desirable out of what many would consider a lost cause. That’s really inspiring. Great work!
Thank you so much! 😊
Your choice of paint color was spot-on!! The finish on the drawer fronts coupled with the painted body of this dresser is harmony….perfection. Great work!
Thank you so much! 😊
Oh WOW! This is a total transformation; great result. I LOVE the casters. Thank you for showing what can be done with a piece that is not stellar quality and for saving the landfills of a major addition. Someone will get a lot of use out of this piece and enjoy its beauty. The bonus is that is passed the Willow test!
You are so welcome! 😊
This was second time watching this. In my opinion, you are the best teacher of all of the woodworkers that I have watched.
Wow, thank you very much! 😀
Love that you gave her those little jewelry casters. 😻 The taupe washing with sanding worked great! You can still tell that the drawer front wood is a hodgepodge, but it's a uniform hodgepodge because of the taupe tone.
Thank you for showing us how easily the drawers slid open and shut. So satisfying to watch. What a beautiful piece this has become!!
You're very welcome! ☺️
Yes... this came out beautiful. I really thought this piece was ugly. Now, it's something I would be proud to have in my own home.
I'm so glad you like how it turned out! 😊
You never cease to amaze! The drawer fronts are stunning and turned this into a signature piece.
Lovely, unique piece now. Very elegant.
I'm so glad you like it! 😊
Prime example why you’re the best out there Angie! Love this piece!
Thank you so much Lynn!
1- These are some of my favorite pieces. 2- Sanding the paint wash... 100% perfect effect. 3- The pulls were amazing, so glad you kept them.
4- The casters- honestly probably my favorite thing about it. You truly elevated the piece. It's so modern, clean, warm, but with a nod to the past.
Thank you so much for this great comment Mary! Much appreciated! 😊
From poor to perfect - Angie, you've done it again. You should truly be proud of what you have achieved. ❤
Thank you very much! 😊
Wow! What a transformation! I don’t know how you see a piece’s potential, yet this video is more evidence that you bring out furniture’s hidden beauty. What wonderful work!
Thank you very much! 😊
Ooh, love the drawer fronts! You took a throwaway, stinky piece and transformed it! Worth watching and appreciating.
Thank you so much! 😊
Angie, this turned out beautifully! Thank you so much for saving this one from the landfill. It can now go on to a much better life being used for at least another generation. ❤❤❤❤❤
You're very welcome!! 😊
Love the mismatched wood grain. Gives it charm.
I'm so glad you like it! 😀
Stunning ,yet again. Incidentally that "Second chances" quote is kinda why I use pallets for so many projects, it's in many cases alot more work than just getting milled lumber. My father in law is a cabinet maker and he always jokes that I saved the fire from the quality of the wood I used.
You have an artist's eye for choosing colors to compliment each other. This chest of drawers is exquisite, looking much better than it ever did in its previous life. The woodgrain of the drawers pops against the paint color of the framework and top. Love those little brass castors.
Thank you so much 😀
Genius! You know, a beautiful walnut antique piece is one thing to restore, but to take a laminate piece mixed with frankly unattractive solid wood and make it beautiful is where the real vision and artistry comes in. You have an eye and a talent for taking the most unappealing, throwaway furniture and seeing the possibilities it still holds. Beautiful job--these ugly ducklings that you turn into swans are always my favorites!
Thank you so much!!!! ❤️
You use wise words when describing what you are trying to accomplish. You are beyond your years. TY and great work.
Thank you so much! 😊
You give each piece a new life. Your sense of style creates amazing results.
Thanks so much 😊
Another WOW for you, Angie. This dresser has a warmth that is so appealing. Enjoyed seeing Willow give it the sniff test!
I'm so glad you enjoyed it!! 😀
The warmth you brought out of those drawer fronts is just gorgeous! 😍
I'm so glad you like them! 😊
I love the look of the drawer fronts, all the different grains and colors. This turned out to be a beautiful piece of furniture. Well done as usual.
Thank you so much! 😊
awesome! i think furniture flippers have really helped people have an appreciation for real wood and different variations being together and not always matching. this is beautiful!
I'm very glad you like it! 😊
I've seen a lot of pieces that look like that at thrift stores and wish I could just apply your magic and make them "new" again. You made this one look beautiful without too much repair work. Your explanations as to why you do or don't do some things a particular way are helpful. Thanks for another beautiful redo on this one. We enjoy you so much. Thank your sniff tester, too.😍 Love, Dave and Amy
You're so welcome! I'll pass the message along to Willow as well - she'll be tickled. ❤️
Boy, who’d a thought the end product was possible. Gorgeous! You’re ability to see what’s possible never fails to amaze. Thank you!
You're very welcome! 😊
This a piece I would love to have in my home. The mismatched wood gives it character
Thanks so much! 😀
Restarted my similar composition project yesterday as the weather is getting warmer. This reminds me during the rough moments that everything is worth it in the end! Well done.
Sounds great! Thank you so much for watching!
You saved it Angie!! I love how those drawer fronts turned out, they look incredible now!! 😍👏🤩
I'm so glad you like them! 😊
There’s my favorite furniture magician!! Wow, she looks absolutely incredible now!! Thank goodness for your gift of seeing the potential that these often discarded and overlooked pieces typically receive! Nothing less than a tiny and mighty miracle worker you are!! I love it!! And I have learned so much from you. I truly appreciate everything that you do and take time to share 😊💕
Wow, thank you! I'm so glad you enjoy it! 😊
This piece has a real personality now and makes a "warm, cozy" impression. Thanks for the fun video!
You're most welcome!
Angie’s Last Chance Saloon triumphs again! 😍🥰
Thanks so much Lois! 😊
When people say someone’s irrecognizable after plastic surgery, it would be great if it were this kind of irrecognizable. You’re a master furniture plastic surgeon. ❤
Awe, thank you so much! 😊
You are so right about the warmth of these drawers’ finish - so pretty! This piece is giving cozy cottage vibes. Lovely! 😊
Thank you so much for watching! 😊
The transition in this piece is amazing. Beautiful job. Also, I loved how Willow said, "No mouse"!
I'm so glad you liked it! 😺
new life for a beautiful dressure.
Thanks so much!
I watch a lot of these types of channels and yours I prefer over all the others. You are thorough and precise and you look for that next issue to tackle instead of ignoring it. The other reason I watch is your calm peaceful demeanor. It transfers to the incredibly hard work you do. I’m hoping, in reality, you’ve got the music cranked to 10 and just enjoying yourself. Cats are a major bonus! Beautiful work you do. Thank you.
You're very welcome! I'm so glad you're enjoying my work! 😀
Thank you for being the honest and natural person you are, and not acting fake and influential. That's why I think you are the greatest furniture flipper in CZcams (that, and the reason you make the greatest transformations of course). And also the mouse smell test was very cute :D
You're very welcome! I really appreciate the kind words, thank you so much! 😊
I saw the potential, the rounded front edges, the lighter drawers and indeed, the special hardwear. You made it come out perfectly.
Thank you so much! 😊
I love it It will fit in nicely with the new moody colors coming back in. Your truely an artist❤😅
I really appreciate that, thank you!
You most definitely gave this dresser new life😮
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that! 😀
Boy, talk about working miracles! The drawers made me smile because they aren't perfect, kind of quirky and just my thing.
Thank you!
Fantastic results Angie. It's so amazing to see you turn ugly reject, to beautiful and elegant.😍
Thank you so much for watching! 😊
The colors you chose gave it a contemporary feel. This turned out well.
I'm so glad you like it! 😊
I think it looks way nicer then the original 👍⭐️
Thank you very much! 😊
