DRAMATIC wood & paint dresser makeover - FURNITURE FLIPPING

- This dresser needed full refinishing, new drawer slides (which I make myself with a table saw and some scrap wood from furniture deconstruction), and hardware. I opted for a wood/paint combination, using a custom mixed stain and one of Fusion Mineral Paint's new colours, Chestler.
While it always pains me a little to paint over walnut (even if it's veneer), that was the vision I had for this piece, and I left a lot of the beautiful woodgrain showing.
I did add new legs and new hardware, though I went back and forth MANY times over my choices. In the end, I AM happy with it and, best of all, I'm going to be donating this piece to 10,000 Carrots Rabbit Rescue, the rescue I help out with and foster for, and we will be raffling tickets (local only, sorry!).
In addition, you'll see a bit of our brush with Hurricane Fiona, and Nacho's new sombrero. 😍

One of my favorite things to see you address is the stewardship of caring for what an owner may want to do with it down the road, and protecting the piece beyond your current transformation. It really speaks to the durability of quality furniture. Also, it lacks the vanity that is apparent in the way some people attempt to “salvage” a piece and potentially ruin it without knowing it.
Think of the desk made in shop class as an organ donor for other furniture. It died so others may live.
As a former neighbor (4yr old), would say 'that was a Hot Mess Express!'. (She didn't know what it meant, she just enjoyed the adult's reactions.) You transformed it into a classic piece. And your rabbit seems to find it acceptable - definitelya strong recommendation. The devastation from recent storms has been nasty. So thankful to know your damage was somewhat minor. It seems Taco knows how to remain stress-free during a storm - perform a horizontal hat dance. (All 4yrs of high school I tried to take Wood Shop classes. Females were not allowed. I graduated in 1968. I understand that restriction no longer exists.)
Also, I purchased Odies Oil and I applied it to my inherited captains chair from my parents’ collection of Ethan Allen Furniture. The change was SO AMAZING. I applied it liberally, waited an hour, and my husband buffed it. We are so pleased with how the oil enriched the whole chair, as well as how it makes me feel that it is protected. My father had stripped the finish and re-rushed the seat before he passed away.
I normally hate to see lovely wood grain being painted instead of being brought up to its natural beauty, but with this piece you have created something very artistic. The painted parts break up the great expanse of wood and compliment it perfectly. The handles and legs are imaginative and make for great balance. Congratulations!
Angie, you are a wood savant. A wood whisperer. I’m convinced that you talk to these pieces and they tell you what they dream to be! Your knowledge of wood and the products that best work are just incredible. As for Nacho I feel so bad that he was so terrified in the hurricane! Lol. I’m glad y’all and safe and no big damage was done. I have family in Florida and it’s been quite the scare.
9 min in and that is THE CUTEST CAT pic I’ve ever seen. I’m a dog person. That whole clip and the music was precious.
I love how meticulous you are. You do such great work! Thank you.
There is such an element of watching an artist create a masterpiece in your videos. I throughly enjoy them!
Omg I just noticed that Nacho is a polydactyl baby!!! I LOVE little polydactyl feets!!! They're so darn cute!! 😍
Every once in a while, if we get lucky, we find a animal, a precious pet, who just fits us and for whom we fit. Like mates...a fit. You and Nacho found that fit. Those precious times, when the fates brought you together, are some of the best memories. Your art and your pal, Nacho, are a delight to behold. My heart wept for your family when Muffin went off to search the universe. Time moves on and leaves us in its memory. Celebrate the time and memory! Lucky animals who found us and those we stumbled upon!
Another gorgeous save! I know you don’t like painting over that beautiful veneer, but this was just the right amount to really make this stand out. Love that you went with the rounded handles. Well done Angie!
I love everything about this piece. You even staged it with the perfect bunny to set off the beauty of the stained wood and the richness of the paint color. I’m glad you and yours are okay after Fiona blew through.🌸
Love the colors and everything about this! You hit it out of the park and I pray you get many bids on it for the rabbits… Nacho’s sombrero’s a hoot! 🐈
This came out absolutely gorgeous! I'm glad you guys weathered (heh) the hurricane okay. Please give Nacho a cuddle for me! My first cat was also a polydactyl and my current cat is a ginger tabby, he's like a combination of the two of them! 🧡💛🧡
I love that you reclaim even those pieces that are unreclaimable as a whole but contain a great supply of components for future projects.
Love the creeper! Saves your back and as an older woman I know how important that is to try to save.
After you refinish a piece, I can't imagine anyone having to redo or even want to! I've never seen a piece that I don't love! And your colors are fantastic!
It's so good to see you back after the hurricane, glad to see you’re okay.
Wow, what a transformation. That dresser was not high end or expensive, even new, you've made it luxurious. I'm always impressed that you take as much care on the inside of a piece as the outside. I watch several refinishers on CZcams and not everyone does that.
