In this weeks video we have been invited up to visit Hampson Auctions at their flagship sale which is ran along side the Gold Cup at Oulton Park. There were 130 lots on sale which included motorbikes and classic cars. There were plenty of classic fords that caught my attention but I also looked around Mercedes, Peugeots, Toyotas etc! The range of classics was brilliant and Hampson auctions made a really good job of laying them all out considering the time they have to set the sale up.
The auction itself moved at a fast pace and I soon found myself waving my bidding card in the air because a Renault Clio Cup caught my eye whilst we were viewing the classics. I had a few bids but this one wasn’t meant to be, although there were other lots including a Peugeot van which I quite fancied!
Overall like every Hampson auction, me and Lauren really enjoyed ourselves. With a very relaxed atmosphere and great write ups on all the cars, we always find ourselves wanting to attend.

Really liked that! I sometimes work for Fire stations here in the UK & some of the stuff they have tucked away that has minimal mileage is amazing, like land rovers, unimogs & other specialist stuff.

those astra GTE's were my bread + butter on the police recoveries in the 80s/90s
in the boot there was a factory supplied screwdriver which opened the doors, took the cowls off, then started the engine, all you had to do was sit in the passenger seat + kick the steering wheel to get the lock off, gone in 60 seconds easy...
i even recovered the same red GTE one week after the owner got it back off us all repaired, stolen from yorkshire + driven back up to sunderland, then repaired by me again!
there was no cars left in sunderland to steal, so the "TWOCkers" [taken without owners consent] used to go on daytrips south to find cars... there was even a special bodywork tool sold to straighten vauxhall door skins around the lock, every garage had one...

I just can't get over how much some people are willing to pay for nostalgia. Most of these could have been picked up for pennies amongst the part ex trade ins around the back of most car dealers.

Love the auctions. Also that car you looked at in one of the videos. It was a Renault Fuego (pronounced Fway-Go) I drove one in England in the 90’s as a rental. Along with a few other classics 😊

Thank you! Auction fees are fairly average at 12.5%. Also don’t forget if a car went provisionally then the agreed price may have been higher (hence the difference between hammer price and sold for..) 👍🏻

Good selection of vehicles there mate! The white wheels on the blue Mini van look like original Mini Cooper wheels 🤔 couldn't believe the auto conversion on the Sapphire..but each to their own 👍
If they’re Mini Cooper wheels I assume they’re worth more?! Same I’m not sure why anyone would convert a manual to auto 😅
Another great vid mate! That Nova GSI £19k inc fees WOW!! Loved the various makes and models going through the auction. Some reserves did seem high but yes just a £1k for the Peugeot van was a result. Those wheels are worth nearly that anyway. A couple of cars i would like to see that you don't tend to see nowadays are the Fiat uno turbo i.e. or the MK1 Astra GTE.👍

RX7 is a Wankel rotary engine. You'll see it red lines at over 8K. Absolutely no fuel economy. Crazy cars!

That’s a shame, prices are always unpredictable! CZcams put the ads in my videos, they are free to watch and ads are only ever 20 seconds long at the most! 👍🏻
Great video. In Ireland they always sold a van version (like the Peugeot 205) of a lot of popular car brands. You could get a big tax discount if you bought them this way. Infact it was rare to see the UK road version of expensive brands like Land Rover Discovery. Most people would order them as vans with no windows or seats in the back. Alot of people retro fitted the seats themselves to save money.
I used to sell Peugeot 306`s back in the day, Owned hundreds of them ! But the van was not available in England was Ireland only never did find one but with 1.9TD or 2.0 Hdi would of been a great van !

There’s a guy in Wirral called Tullisa Motors got a focus van from Ireland 🇮🇪
I moved to Ireland in the 90’s & brought my own car over but I bought a Hyundai Santa Fe in 2002 Brand new. The let me down with my spec & I was about to walk away from the deal but the dealership who were intending to have for one of their senior managers/directors but not in the colour I wanted offered my that car & I took it. I had no idea they registered them as vans & were supposed to take the seats & windows out to comply with tax. I only found out I had been enjoying cheap motoring when I came to sell it.
I had a rsturbs series 2. I bought it for 2500, sold it for 2500. They even held their prices back then. I’d love that white one.

Buyers fees are set at 12.5% which is fairly standard & a bonus at this auction is they charge no sellers fees!
The mitsubishi cordias were sold in Australia and New Zealand . The NSW police had a few as traffic cars . Maybe tgat is an ex australia car? No rust etc.
Im pretty sure Jackie chan drove a black mitsubishi like that in the original cannonball run!!!!

22:49 it’s probably got a galvanised body like my mk2 golf,
mild steel rusts if any part isn’t painted no matter the quality of it soft or hardened like inside seals and doors and holes drilled and not greased will always rust unless you never drive when wet and keep in a heated/dehumidified garage

55 to 60 grand for a Sierra with those miles on, I just don't get the Ford fanboy tax at all.
They were not even that good when they were new really, and I am old enough to remember those days. 20 grand I'd say is what they are actually 'worth'.
That Minivan was a good buy at 4 grand !
A grand for that Pug 205 was an absolute bargain, worth 3 times that in parts.
I quite liked the Nova, but it's a 10 grand at most to me.
The R5 GT turbo would have been nice if original, but still went quite cheap when you compare it to the Nova price.
LOVED that Mk2 Mexico, 142bhp is plenty in an old ekky. Well worth the sold price.
That mitsy was an absolute bargain. Rare, clean, and cheap, wow.
The RX7 was a good price, when you consider what R32/R33 Skylines go for.
The E36 was a bargain too, mint 328i are fetching 8-10 grand now.

I had that exact model gsi, same J reg, same colour, I had mine lowered with 15 inch imolas on it. Absolutely loved that thing. I bought it for £500 as a stop gap( my mklll golf gti was getting thousands of pounds thrown at it🙄🤦🏻♂️) sold it for 850. 😔
What a coincidence! It’s crazy how much some cars have increased in value but back then, you would never imagine they’d be worth this much! 👀

SR Rolled in Odeon Cinema carpark (Scrapped)
First car was Fiesta 900cc £450 (2001Nov) Just Passed Test and Written off Feb 2002 😱😱

Great content pal. Always regret getting rid of my Nova 1.4 SR in breeze blue. I paid £5300 for it, 3 years old with 35000 on the clock. Sold it to a pal in 97 with 100,000 ish on the clock. If anyone has it I’d love to have it back. H355YMB. Got a feeling she’s gone to the scrapyard in the sky.😢. Last taxed Sept 2002.
Nice video, my favourite car that you showed was the mk2 Mexico. Oh, Mitsubishi definitely didn't make strong cars, as the EVO's (I had one) suffer badly with rust. That car must have come from a dry country, or garaged all its life.

Great vid..... I own a 1998 Ford Escort 1.8 GTI with 70,501 miles ... MOT until April 2024. I've also been told it has Ally rims that are collectable !... Bodywork has a few dinks & basic rust... Any idea what the car could sold for ?

Bloody marvellous, machines that you drove....not computers that drive you... Something similar to my first car in the backdrop, my Austin 1300 with Moulton suspension was like floating on a magic carpet, for teenage fun we would 'borrow' my mates sisters mk 2 escort and rag it round the lanes....what a car! Glad to see plenty of folk still loving the simple stuff!
Reason those didn’t sell was because they were asking too much.

@@SuccessShared I think people think because it’s 80s/90s , it’ll sell. People will buy it if there’s very minimal work that needs doing. Can’t really get parts either.
Some estimates were optimistic but the classic market is always changing. Fees were 12.5% which is fairly standard 👍🏻

Just stumbled across this, fantastic!!! enough info to keep interested,great filming and a good selection of lots, I'm a ford man through and through ,but even I wouldn't have bid on those fiestas, they really were the low point in fords history, worst fords ever built even worse than Mk5 escorts ( sorry ford fans )

A historic vehicle is 40 years old, so anything before 1983. Saying that a vehicle that has lasted 25 years is still a classic/future classic in my eyes 👍🏻

i switched off when we got to the 2nd blue fiesta.i'm pretty sure there were some more worthier interesting cars than grannies old shopping cart to talk about The current owner thinks he gonna get 5k for it when the first one went for a quarter of that.Nice to see folks are not getting carried away in some kind of nostalgia trip down memory lane of mummy or daddy had one so i will follow suit.
I somewhat disagree with this comment. You say the current owners think their fiesta is worth 5k but both mk4 fiestas were no reserve. They could’ve sold for £400 or £3000, so I don’t think the owners were expecting to go home with a full wallet 👍🏻

If that’s a RS500 should it not have a build number plaque between the window switches. And being moonstone blue it’s one of only 50 odd 500s an estimated value must be higher than that. Unless it’s a 3 door with 500 bits ?
I'm not sure it was a genuine RS 500. He said it was registered in 1986. I don't think they came out until 1987. Anyway whether it was or not I was surprised it didn't sell. I thought the market for these fast fords was red hot.
I’ve got to admit I didn’t check to see if it had a build number plaque. I’d find it hard to believe they would sell a replica without stating in the description 👍🏻

The white Mk4 Fiesta isn't a 1994, because the Mk4 Fiesta came out in August 1995 and R-reg is 1997-1998.

If I'd owned that first RS Turbo I'd have taken that bid and run out of the building, it was rough. That grey Mini van was a steal, a little bit of work to put it back to standard and it would sell for a great price.

I think some of the estimates were way to high,set by owners who see a car go for 55grand after three very interested buyers had a fight over it and then expect the same thing to happen to their car,if they set it at 40 grand just maybe they might have sold it and of course at the moment people are watching the pennies.
I agree some people think they’re cars are worth a lot, however at auction you never know what a car will make. As you rightly said all it takes is a couple of determined people and the price will sky rocket 👍🏻
I started out being a ford man then a friend got a BMW and it was just a level above and never looked back. But i would like to own an escort mk3 RS1600i or a mk1 fiesta super sports or xr2
Back in the day i owed a mk1 and mk2 xr2 a really mint escort xr3 a really rusty xr3i OPEL manta astra GTE mk1 and mk2 capri 2.8 etc
Back in the day one lad had a fiesta super sports which was special with black paint nice alloys and checked interior another lad and a escort RS1600i in orange which i borrowed it cost him £700 and he had a Peugeot 205 GTI 1.9 rocket ship Then the odd mk1 and mk2 escort turbos and Renault 5 gt turbos where knocking a round And if you had any type of Cosworth you where a god
how come there's Ghia badges on the 2000e? shame they made it an auto instead
That’s a mystery, I read the full description but no mention as to why it has Ghia badges. It’s a shame the conversion was done but can be swapped back to manual 👍🏻

The 2000E was a Ghia 'spec' car with a few extras thrown in, think of it as a shell that you chuck every conceivable option at. 2000E's had the Ghia emblems as a consequence. I had the original bill of sale for the car, and amazingly it was about £500 MORE expensive than a brand new 2WD Sapphire Cosworth! They actually left the factory in standard form with the Auto box... The original spec sheet to the car showed that the £595 option of a manual gearbox was ticked. That almost made me not buy it originally, as i'm more of an 'auto man' I put up with it for 5 or so years till i could financially justify having in converted to the gearbox it should have left the factory with originally. Not an easy or cheap conversion, (new E.C.U. etc etc)...
Thanks for covering my 2000E Mitch! I was hoping you'd attend the auction and spot my old car! I was looking to convert her to the 'Cosworth' 2.9 V6 (from the Scorpio) But the original 2.0 DOHC was just so bloody GOOD! Not particularly powerful, but in amazing mechanical condition despite it knocking on the door of 115k... I laid the car up each winter (dry use only) and even after not being started for 6 or so months, she'd start up like a warm engine, no valvetrain rattles or knocks, no smoke... I'm VERY sorry to see her go, the end of an era for me... I bought the car for my son that had just fallen ill, sent the car off for 'resto' so i could present it to my lad to cheer him up... Unfortunately my boy didn't make it so never got to see the car completed... I suppose it was my tribute car to his memory in the end.

I purchased mine for £2.700 back when I was 20 and now I’m 48 and would love to sit back in one…. Great cars and for sure that does need some good TLC but worth it if someone has the time and money to bring it back to showroom condition and give the engine a overhaul 👍
80's Fords were rusty as hell. Those RS Turbo's had probably been rebuilt a couple of times already. And early Mini's had rust built-in straight off the production line. Well, in fact all British Leyland models of the period 🤣🤣🤣
The old cars definitely do rust but there’s plenty of people keeping them on the road! 👍🏻
I can’t believe that the RS500 didn’t make £500,000 plus 😂 just goes to show that people are dreaming about what they are worth. People asking £35,000+ for very average sapphire cosworths are clearly dreaming
The estimate was reasonable and they weren’t expecting £500,000. It just wasn’t the right day for this RS500 👍🏻
