  • @lenirish
    @lenirish Před 3 lety +9

    Beasley early in his career is consistent and averaged double figures in solid efficiency. If the Bulls or Memphis got him he might've fulfilled his real potential. I know that off court antics really held him back but he was drafted in Miami. Parties everywhere, women on the beach, Beasley having the luxury to afford all that while also not being focused much on really hindered his growth as a player. If he was drafted by a team besides Miami he would've been a star probably. In his third year when he left the heat he became a 20 ppg scorer and he did that with a solid efficiency. After that year he didn't really had the chance to prove himself because of the minutes he was given. He went overseas and became irrelevant since then. It's really sad how harsh the reality of this players are, they are somehow lucky they got drafted but who knows if they really got the chance to fulfill that dream with that crazy potential.

      @@jamman950 That's the point. His situation with 2008 Miami is perfect for a rookie. No more Shaq so he could get the ball more. The team was mediocre at best so there's no real pressure on him playing the 6th man. He has Wade to learn from and he could replace Shawn Marion anytime if he wants to. He was great in 2009 when he finally cracked the starting lineup but then his off-court issues hinders his development too. When he was playing to the Knicks and Wolves, he was a borderline star that could end up as a legit all-star if it continued. He had all the chances but sadly blew it all due to self-infliction. His mindset is his downfall.

    good look into this. it seems like Durant spending that time alone in the gym as a kid made a huge difference. Durant developed phenomenal shooting and ballhandling skills that make him so special today. Beasley was bigger and stronger, so relied on that more and never got serious about shooting 3s, killer crossovers etc, and once he entered the land of the giants (NBA), he couldn't rely on out muscling everyone and didn't have any other skills to fall back on. That said, Durant wouldnt be Durant without Beasley motivating him to work harder

    It was crucial for Beasley to a team where he would be the focal point of the franchise. His size and skill set made him a tweener so his style needed to be fleshed out with the ability make mistakes along the way. Most of the best players in history was allowed to lose and figure their games out. That was because the goal of the team was to maximize the potential of the young star instead of winning immediately. Having a superstar on your team makes it extremely difficult. Ingram had to get away from LeBron to flourish properly.

INCLUDING putting your demons aside to become all the player you can be. Sure, KD walked into a situation where he was given the ball and told "go get 'em" but most of becoming one of the greats--AT ANYTHING--involves single-minded devotion to your craft. Michael Beasley never showed he was about that. Injuries didn't help, either.

    Had he had a better support system, Beasley would've been a massive star and we'd honestly be having conversations about who is better between him and KD. Goes to show that talent isn't the only thing that makes you a success, gott surround yourself with the right team.

    This is a partial case of “hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard” by KD’s own admission. Obviously things are wayyyyy different now, but back then...shocked that he didn’t have that same confidence

      He had two seasons as a second pick with the team that drafted him, he fell out of the league several times, he was never even close to an allstar or elite player, and has only played for one single franchise for more than 60 games and stayed on that team for more the one year once since he got into the league. By definition he’s a bust.

    • @lenirish
      @lenirish Před 3 lety +2

      He's a bust but early in his career he's good. Distractions threw him off his game and that's what makes it even harder for me to say that he's not a bust. Greg Oden was a bust even though everybody knew he was injured a lot and probably became a hall of famer if he didn't get all those injuries back in his early days.

    99% get caught up in the entertainment of it all, when these players are human beings with family responsibilities.
    For the outsider looking in, a ring is everything, but sounds like for Beasley, the lifestyle and opportunities the finances provided him and his family meant the most.
    Just because he was not at the level of Durant or attained the accolades Durant has, doesn’t mean his success was something to pity.
    If that’s the case then we should put every NBA player on the spotlight if we compared them to Jordan’s Legacy… “HELLO!!”

    I think it was pretty much summed up by Durant's quote at the start. For Beasley the game came easily when they were young while KD had to grind it out in the gym. KD wanted the game to come as easily to him as it did to Beasley and the only way he knew how to do that was to put in the work at the gym. Obviously it translated like that into his future career into basketball. Unfortunately for Beasley he might probably felt like it was going to be as easy as it had been for him and never adopted KD same mindset.

    I guess he thought smoking and goofing around off the court was more important.
    Also, tends to be more difficult for players with a mid range game to be a top player nowadays. A few make it work. But, its not par for the league.
