    This is GREAT Star Trek. I want all of you to listen/read up: I'm now in my sixties and i was here in THE Sixties (albeit much younger) when Star Trek launched. Not even two seasons behind them, author David Gerrold revealed in a later interview how depressed he had become because he had received hate-fan mail over "The Trouble With Tribbles." Complaints over how stupid it was, how the crew would never say or do those things, how it wasn't real Star Trek. He disassociated himself from that episode. Several months later he was asked to speak at some sort of writer's gathering. During his introduction it was mentioned he'd penned an episode of Star Trek. A member of the audience asked him which one. He was hesitant but the audience insisted. David was bowled over when, after embarrassingly admitting it was TTWT, the audience rose in cheers and a standing ovation. All you haters and gate keepers on this thread explaing how bad LD and SNW are, and how these things aren't real Star Trek, remember: Gene (if you need his last name you don't belong here) envisioned a positive inclusive future for humankind. Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations. Some of you are showing you're not destined to be part of that future. I'm not a gate keeper. Just an observer.

    TBH, situations like this must be torture for everyone involved. The people from the future know they can’t change anything without obliterating their home timeline, while the people from the past know they aren’t allowed to ask about anything that happens in the future, despite everyone involved knowing that future knowledge might prevent any number of disasters and loss of life. Funny as this episode was, the characters must have been under an incredible amount of pressure the whole time.

    After the La'an/Kirk thing on S2E03, I like to imagine that between the scene where La'an give Boimler the temporal run-down and where Boimler's in Pike's quarters, that they have a heart-to-heart about what La'an went through with the alternate Kirk so that she can FINALLY talk to someone about that with a sympathetic ear. No one has remarked on the planning that had to have gone into this. Animation characters are normally designed and then the voice actor is chosen with no reference whatsoever to the character's appearance. But these voice actors look exactly like their characters. That means they must have had this crossover in mind from the very beginning of the Animated Series. Very impressive.

    • @Kaedren
      @Kaedren Před 10 měsíci +17

      Likely the character design was influenced after casting so that the animators could line up facial expressions and mannerisms with how the lines are delivered by the cast. Looks more polished that way. Which then gave us the bonus of live action with the actually actors.

    • @vitrify
      @vitrify Před 10 měsíci +5

      Quite frequently, in western animation, the animators will use video of the voice actors recording as reference for the animated characters (mannerisms, facial reactions, hand movements, etc). Thus, the characters looking similar to their actors, especially since there isn't a large age gap, makes sense.

    Boimler's reaction to finding himself on the Enterprise is exactly the reaction I had when I went through The Star Trek Experience in Las Vegas in 2003 then my wife and I went through it together in 2005. The way the engineers behind it designed the "beaming up" of all of us to the Enterprise itself was beyond amazing. The corridors, turbolift, bridge, Quark's Bar, and Borg were masterfully done. I went through it twice solo, with my wife twice, and we both went through the "behind the scenes" presentation. I wish everyone watching this video could have experienced it all. It was truly, truly a breathtaking piece of engineering design. Too bad it was all destroyed in 2008 just to expand the hotel's casino; it'll never be available again.
