Honestly, I think Ethan won this race. He didn't have to worry about late trains or broken chargers...
He had to worry about delays and walking (or swotching between other transport methods) though
@@norwegianmountainbiker236 that´s Jack, he was talking about Ethan that´s at home
Yep! Ethan is the real deal, lol
Ethan would have won if he would have gotten it together before leaving and sorted the charging. He let all car enthusiasts down.
@@PapaVanTwee5 That's Alex 🤦
Jack's the man. He's relatable because he's not obnoxiously happy all the time like most CZcamsrs. It's good to see someone just being themselves. The Tourist Simulator lines was hilarious.
Jack: ‘everyone’s giving me weird looks thinking I’m some weirdo vlogging’
Also Jack: ‘WHAT’S UP YOUTU-‘
A great moment that…I laughed out loud. Although it’s interesting that we’re at a point where there’s now the more serious content creators and what are considered the yoof to take the piss out of!👍
10:01 I heard a nokia Elves ringtone in the backround
Charging issues aside, if public transport were allowed to compete properly (ie getting a bus to and from the stations) it would've saved more than an hour in journey time. The car simply cannot compete with High Speed Rail.
Lol
To go from Gare du nord to the Eiffel tower the fastest way i tried is those e-bikes your rent by an app - 20min -. If you can consider those public transport.
If only we had high speed motorways
Also even just sticking to trains, if it's a 30 min walk he could've been there quicker on the tube, which is still a train, and the metro, a train again. Though my guess would be it was to even the playing field.
Yeah for big city destinations like London centre to Paris Eifeltower I agree. But I guess real world transport has to get you to far less monumental destinations… Imagine going to a smaller city or rural area in an other country - you’d be lost for hours waiting on busses, hopping trains and what not using public transport!
So they had to drop Ethan so jack can get business class 😂
It’s official jack is a danger to society, walking and trains everywhere yet not a headphone in sight
What does headphones have to do with this?
@@aneejit9079 Because Eejit's have ear phones in at full volume and are ot aware of their surroundings. Putting themselves and others at risk in busy environments.
@@MattyBrad Right.. I don't wear headphones in public, hell i don't even listen to music in the car 95% of the time.
@@aneejit9079 Well most of us do
@@p_mishev Which is why i was curious why they said Jack was a danger to society when most of us are the same...
Transport challenges are the best, got top gear vibes…
they're way better than the current top gear hosts. these are real car guys, not just celebrities doing a job.
Vibes? It's a complete rip off of theirs 😂
But I do love this channel.
10:01 I heard a nokia Elves ringtone in the backround
Lovely, absolutely splendid, you guys are nicely filling the void due to lack of entertaining motor journalism shows by creating such content akin to old top gear with Clarkson and the gang. Great going! Really looking forward to seeing more. Cheers!
You should check out CarTrek. 3 car youtubes fairly entertaining.
I recommend Nightride, my favourite channel alongside CarThrottle
@@atiger01 they don't hold a candle unfortunately. Too scripted for such bad actors. Editing that betrays just how low the budget is. They try way too hard to emulate Top Gear without a quarter of the talent or budget

It was nice seeing more of Jack, I don't think he gets enough screen and mic time.
Hi Jack. Nice user name 👋👋
Agreed
At the start of the video "we can only use one method of transport". Jack chooses the train, Alex chooses the car AND a train........
Jack is hilarious. Tourist simulator 🤣
4/4 for the train. If Jack had got the tube and the Paris metro and the train not delayed, even with no charging issues the train would have obliterated the car!
You just lose style points
What if he was disabled? Or even if he couldn't walk as fast? Maybe he wants to take a pet or some luggage? What happens when the weather turns bad?
The train did well while he was on it - as it should do - but its not exactly door to door if you have an hour walk at each end and there are plenty of times when that becomes anything from a big pain to meaning the journey can't be made.
@@siraff4461 both london and Paris have a metro which would’ve made it much easier for them to get to where they need and much less walking to get there instead of the long walk.
Hey thanks for the spoiler alert, fucho!
But you don't get robbed in your car, the same can not be said about the metro.
Jack: I've got to get from this underground train station in London to this underground train station in London and I'm only allowed to use trains. I know, I'll walk.
They tried very hard to make the train lose by having him walk everywhere even incuding his 45 minute delay the train ended up still winning...
While a very, very silly rule if Jack could have actually used all public transport and the Eurostar was co-operating I'm pretty sure he could probably have made it to the Eiffel tower and been back under the channel before the E-tron found a Parisian parking space....
They should put electric chargers on the channel tunnel. Seems like a good time to charge considering you just sit there.
ah yes lets see what a lithium fire can do to the channel tunnel. the highest chance of fire in an ev is while it's charging and are dam near impossible to fight. currently the best option is to lift the car into a container and fill it with water and wait 1-2 weeks
@@Ettap96 and filling a trail full of large flammable liquid tanks isn't also a fire risk??
@@oliver.gilbert oh it is but are there any gas stations on a train going under the sea in a tunnel? for that i cant think of a gas station that is not outside
@@Ettap96 They're already in a closed-off container, and lithium fires in EVs are extremely rare, like 20 per year in the US compared to over 10000 in regular cars.
@@swecreations I know they are but I'd rather not find out
I guess Ethan was actually left at home trying to get his own flying license for the next challenge.

Then this.... thankyou 🙏😎
Just finished work after starting at 22:30 last night and what a video to watch before I go to sleep ! Unreal !
Gotta love a bit of interesting racing 😊 Here in Oz you don't bother with either form of transport and just get on a plane if you don't want to take the 'scenic' route 😂
Did he just walked all the way from Gare du Nord to the Eiffel Tower instead of taking the metro? Good legs!
He also walked from the Shard all the way to St. Pancras International Station instead of taking the tube
These kind of shows from you and Car Trek are so killing it

Good video so far! I’d like to see another cheap car challenge
Agreed, less EV please. Let's not buy into the false prophets of ICE Demise.
Jack is so handsome, even after rain! 😍
Great Trip, but my best advice for Travelling to Paris: take the Train!

Another hit! Dont get me wrong I know they're hard and expensive to make, but its so worth it, I'd bingewatch these all day long. Good job guys.
one mode of transport only? so, if Alex is allowed to take the car on a train, why can't Jack take other forms of public transport?
like the tube
You can't get to France without the train of some sort, a plane and a boat. I suppose if jack wanted to he couldve taken a bicycle or a electric scooters if owned
Well how else do you suggest he gets over a ocean 😂😂
@@zakashi4206 would be a long race because they’d have to wait until either the channel dries up or Audi release an amphibious etron
because it would be way too easy for Jack. Using the tube in London and the Metro in Paris he would win with no doubt in mind. It's not a race if even before starting you know who will win
Cooking up a fresh batch of balls soup 😂😂😂 incredible
Well done guys! That was easily the best race so far in my opinion
You guys uploaded this vid at the same time I was checking in to eurotunnel from Calais as my train was delayed for an hour. The young UK boarder control guy checking our passports was so slow it actually made me feel rage watching all the other aisles clear as his only inched forward. Great video btw, France is lovely.

Brilliant episode! Missed Ethan but Jack is great tbf, ran the show 😂 but I do love the E-tron, best electric car made imo
Apart from it's the French word for turd lol
2 ways to see this. If the train wasn't delayed and Jack used the tube to get to the station then he'd have won by ages.
But if Alex had used a diesel with 800miles of range and no refueling needed he'd have won by ages 😂
Love this type of content!
Love this type of vids class lads
So weird seeing this with a car I’ve actually test driven IRL. Very comfy and of course VERY FAST (now the fastest accelerating car I’ve ever driven) loaded with tech. The issues I have with it is that it makes this artificial deep rumbling sound when it’s in drive (on the outside) and the throttle’s surprisingly stiff.
It has to make a sound on the outside by regulation until a certain speed, to warn people around it that it is running and could drive to you.
I really enjoy these but in an EV, frustrated for you Alex... Though it does look nice doesn't it!
Also did anyone tell Jack that technically the subway and metro and trains?
Maybe he should have signed up for Ionity BEFORE going on the roadtrip... almost feels like he wanted problems on purpose.
Also all the other ones clearly worked, there were other ones cars there charging, he just didn't use any other ones because again, he made himself fail...
I’m in love w/ Jack so much. I really love when he is in the videos.
I love these videos keep it up!
So in conclusion, normal cars are still superior to electric vehicles
Only if you go past the electric cars' range. Any time you do its a nightmare from my experience. Even when it goes well there is still a lot of stress hoping the chargers will work.
I had ev's from 2010 until last year then bailed and got a plug-in hybrid.
It does everything my ev's did on electric - all my daily nonsense - but when I want to go somewhere I never have to plan it out like a military exercise and hope the chargers work and aren't blocked/etc.
While they're in range they're great. Its just a shame thats usually a small window.
@@siraff4461 imagine if we actually went to hydrogen for ICE vehicles. Best of both and removing the worst of both.
@@siraff4461 that’s fair enough. I think if we are forced to move from petrol vehicles hydrogen is the best option. My biggest problem with electric vehicles isn’t even them being electric, I just find them too computerised. They drive themselves in a way you just say where to go 🤣
@@nunchuckfilms To me a Hydrogen plug-in hybrid would make the most sense. Run it on a battery with slow charging at home overnight for the daily stuff then just juice it up when you want some distance.
H cars have to have a battery anyway so it might aswell be ~20kWh or so to allow a decent hit of power and regen without shortening its life. That should then give about 50 miles of knocking about range but leave enough space for the Hydrogen system to have a decent tank size too.
@@achievementbird2641 They say they drive themselves but my modes S was very shady. Sometimes it would turn off the motorway onto a slip road without warning, sometimes it completely ignored mini roundabouts and carried on at full speed over them and a few times it auto-braked like an emergency stop for no reason other than some traffic went the other way.
I stopped using AP altogether after almost being rear-ended by a truck and having to boot the accelerator to get out of harms way.
I also hate everything being on a screen (the S was actually not all that bad for that) and overbearing "safety" systems.

Brilliant as always, interesting comment from Jack that "his dogs were barking" an expression I grew up with as my mother used it a lot, always thought it was from the north Nottinghamshire area?

It would be interesting to see if someone that could reach the pedals and see out the windows would do better driving in these challenges.

I'm guessing Jack was allowed only one trains because ThamesLink goes from London Bridge to St. Pancras.

Love your challenge video guys keep them coming 👍
Such an interesting idea, Ive never seen this format before
Yeh, ZZZzzz...
This perfectly highlights the differences between public transport and just driving yourself to your destination. You have just sitting around, wasting time waiting to get on and be transported to your next spot VS choosing your own journey. That's the appeal of a car to me - you make the journey as you go along. You create memories as you travel from every experience - positive and negative, but memories nonetheless. No one creates memories from waiting to board the train/ferry/plane, unless something extremely rare and eventful happens. That's why i could never switch to public transport and no matter how faster or cheaper it gets, if i have the option, i'll always go for a car.
Difference is you can watch videos or just enjoy yourself while on a train, also the view out of them is usually fairly amazing
@@swecreations Yeah, but i can watch videos at home as well, on a bigger, better screen than on my phone. And as for the views, they expand even further the pleasure of driving.
@@QuantumS1ngularity Bigger, sure, better, no, phone screens have the worlds best screen panels, OLEDs with 1000+ nits of peak brightness with higher pixel density than anything you can get on a TV.

Great challenge, thank you! Car charging infrastructure as usual left to be desired… Looking forward for a new challenges!
I feel like these are always set up to help public transport.
If you go from one massive transport hub (central London) to another (Paris) then its always going to work in PT's favour because those places are based around PT and have huge, direct links.
If it was the other way around where you start somewhere out in the sticks and travel down some great roads to somewhere else in the sticks you could probably beat PT on a moped.
If you want to make it fair throw something at a map and see where it lands.
Public transport also won when they were traveling to a lake, public transport was an half hour faster than alex on a motorbike.
@@betaich "a lake" - again one of the big tourist attractions and on a major rail link.
If you start at or near a large station which sends trains directly to where you're going the train is almost always going to win.
Here's a different example. I once went from Wolverhampton to Bristol by train to collect a car. The walk to the bus stop, bus to town, train to Birmingham, train to BTM, bus back out then the guy collecting me because it would have been another half hour walk otherwise totalled over 6 hours.
From getting into the car, filling it up and driving it back took just under two with not a single speed limit broken.
if you do it like that you would stack it in the other direction, you will never have a 100% fair comparisson, but you could select routes where the pt has 1 change in it
@@siraff4461
I mean, sure, but then again, there's a reason why certain places don't have a good public transport connection. Simply put, there's way less journeys to such places, so the likelihood of you being on one is also greatly reduced. Being faster by car to somewhere in the middle of nowhere doesn't really matter when there's only about five people going there. When tens of thousands travel between large cities, it does matter.
@@mikeblatzheim2797 So are you saying where there is decent public transport there is usually overpopulation?

electric cars sound like a great idea until you have somewhere to be. imagine every gas station "turning off" all at once. that's a potential reality with electric cars.
You mean like a power cut? Pumps run on electricity.
@@DiscoFang I've seen some station with backup diesel generator (they can supply diesel easily for generator) or some older ones having also systems for manual pumping (maybe even new ones but with it being better hidden)
My Tesla and its charging network has been very fine for the numerous 500km+ road trips I've done.
@@jasper5097 good for you. Let us know when charging stations rival gas stations for coverage. Also let us what the answer is to holiday season when you might have dozens of cars stopping all at once at a highway service station for refuelling. Should be fun making each car take minimum 20 minutes instead of 2 minutes…
@@scott9334 firstly, I agree the present lack of availability is an issue which should be addressed. Secondly, I used to stop for 20 minutes minimum every 300-400 km to eat, use the toilet, and load up on snacks and drinks, so it really hasn't affected my life at all.
I don't understand how this is public transport vs car? 2h20 of walking is clearly not the most direct route lol? ebikes, buses, the tube, etc...
if the car is allowed to use tolls then it makes no sense for the public transport person to have to walk lol
They clearly said it was one form of transport. This was train vs car - not all PT vs car. He could have chosen to only use busses but I have a feeling it may have taken longer.
@@siraff4461 right but the underground and Paris metro are both trains.
@@nicktune1219 Maybe they think high speed trains are seperate? I don't know what the logic was but it was probably more to do with making it closer than anything else. I mean having to charge an ev is a big hinderance in the first place so they had to slow Jack down somehow.

Some say .... ethan knows 2 facts about cars,....... both of which are wrong
Well I guess when it comes to long journeys, you still can't beat a good old fashioned combustion engine! Better mileage and quicker to refuel. But I do think if hydrogen fuel cell cars had a better infrastructure, it could be a better substitute for combustion rather than full electric.
Not sure the takeaway from this is... We still need to use ICE cars for a route that is well serviced by high speed rail. I mean nobody in their right mind is walking an hour instead of taking the metro so the only actual problem was it was delayed but then he just got to relax on the train instead of driving.
