- Luka Doncic (The Dallas Mavericks) has an awesome step back. But did you know he never practiced it? According to him, he did it once in a game against The Houston Rockets during his rookie season and thus the step--back was born.

There is a theme that the greats randomly discover how easy the game is and there is this impenetrable confidence that never comes off as cocky
But even if it comes off as cocky that's ok.
Kobe!
Nothing wrong with self confidence
Naturally gifted athletically
Naturals
@@c7lee I don’t think curry or jokic or Luka or trae young are really that athletically gifted trae young’s athleticism isn’t even good enough to dunk in game
I remember that game. He was torching cappella.
capela
same he scorer 12 points in less than 2 minutes and won the game by himself i think mavs were down by 8 at that point
scored*
@@mvp7629 He added a second L after that game.....
He always torches Capela
It probably shows how good his fundamental ist. He's worked on his footwork enough that he didn't need to practice extra for the step back.
Good point
That and he probably played soccer growing up
I’m sure his dad being a former player/coach really helped
What part of Germany are you from?
@@pointgod8730 nah he plays basketball growing up, that’s why he’s so good and play like it’s his 10th seasons. He also started playing pro since 14.
It doesn't get more natural than LUKA. Never practiced it. Too funny in a great way.
He is absorbing that stepback from Harden in Houston without realizing it. Like Sylar in Heroes 😂
Bruh you’re the first person I’ve seen reference heros on the internet good taste
@@Csbdeezy he's a better man than me :D
Without realizing it I think you mean Peter bro cuz Sylar definitely realized what he was doing 😂😂😂
Except Luka does it without egregiously traveling.
@finance No he didn't. Harden made it a thing to do in today's NBA.
watched the guy in euroleague. he was pretty much a bully coz he is a big guard. just tough drives and crazy passes. stepback wasn’t really a thing but since nba players wont guard him by the arc. then he implemented that deadly stepback that he pretty much developed super fast coz he’s just born to baptize the league. the greats know it. 😂
He bullies guys in the NBA now. "Too small!"
@@green285 he’s a grown man now, dude was a teenager in euro lmao.
After the game with Houston, they told me “you have a great step back”. since then, I’ve been practicing step back..
This is hilarious, 😂
It’s crazy to think about how much more his game is gunna continue to grow. I cannot imagine how insane prime Luka will be
Hopefully the organization won’t do him the way they did Dirk. He should get help ASAP so his prime isn’t wasted.
@@blackcolest they better pay brunson. all i'm sayin'
@@TheAndrewc5120 this didn't age well
In Europe they make young players master the fundamentals. I guess when you have the fundamentals it’s much easier to master any skill because every skill is a combination on a number of fundamentals
He's a fricking savant man
This is what you call a prodigy. He doesn't think much about it, just does. Kudos to his father also
Can’t over the fact he has simple answers and does it such wholesomeness☺️
This is like a pitcher trying a new grip and realizing it’s overpowered.
A great example of how quick Luka learns. Such a bright future, unlimited potential.
Im thinking luca's talking about the step back against capela
The guy will only improve. He is only now starting to attempt that step back on the right side of the 3pt line. He seems to have finally figured out that his FT shot is better when he doesn’t take his time and he gets some oomph into it. Currently he is graded out as the top PG defensively in the league, yet analysts and commentators only ever talk about how bad he is, just proves they are casuals even in the game they are paid to analyze. And he has finally committed to getting in shape. This upcoming offseason will be the real start of Luka, where he will add muscle and lean out. He has grown man strength right now, now physical weight lifting strength but just imagine the addition of physical maturity and a stronger body. It’s gonna be beautiful to watch
This is a testament to how Luka approach the game of basketball. He does'nt do moves for the sake of doing it, he let the game dictate what moves his body should use. Pretty much like MJ, free flowing players. True artist.
Great feel to the game
He saw James Harden do it and decided to try it
JJ making a run at Pat McAfee👀👀 ✊🏽✊🏽I respect the hustle my guy
I watched the final minutes of that Houston game repeatedly marvelling at this rook whose poise & game read were off the charts. To learn that was his first time attempting a step back is magnificent.
Before you criticize this man just remember how old he is...💯🤷🏽♂️
future mvp, future fmvp, future hall of Famer.
It's just so easy for him to figure it out when the best defenders today defend like Big Dog Robinson
"If I focus too much on locking my opponent down I wouldn't be able to jog back in time for a logo three"
Luka saw Hardens step back and said, “damn fr?”🤣🐐
So Basically you seen Harden do and wanted to try it out 😂
Amazing content JJ, big props!
* types Luka Doncic step back vs Houston in search bar *
100% pure talent ! Luka magic
@Ash Hegde he has 1-3 hours of highlights from torching STARS(at 23btw). But i agree...atleast one ring he needs hehe
He was only mimicking Harden at first. I remember that game.
Nobody gives credit to James. But Harden innovated quite a few things in today's game.
@@carltonbanks5470 facts, harden really is influential
This man literally pulled a Goku and learned the step back from Harden the same way Goku learned the kamehameha from Master Roshi....he just watched and said let me try lmfao
Hey jj I wish I could talk to you I suffer from depression and seeing ya talk about basketball makes me forget everything
Luka best attribute, arguably, is that 360° court vision. He knows where his teammates are at all times. He knows defenders trying weak side double. Only certain players have that. Jason Kidd. Syrc Nash. Stockton and Luka.
LeBron too
in a way but let's be real no1 knows his role in a game he can do so many different things. I don't care for James at all but I'm not a hater either. He posses skills that no1 else has.
“Since then I’ve been practicing step backs” lol that’s awesome
my guy used sharingan against houston, when harden was there 💀
That step-back he hit on Klay a few weeks ago, was worried he might rupture Klay’s ACL doing that. Damn!
Did he really say “I tried it against Houston”?!?!? Lol. Luka magic.
Jus naturally gifted wit stepback
My man ❤
I believe it I think the best moves are natural instincts when u practice certain moves it’s mechanical
Basketball is such an instinctual sport. You either have it or you don’t
Hattori Hanzo well no I believe the term “natural scorer” is real however if that was the case nba wouldn’t draft raw 18 year olds. You can refine skills with practice just like anything else
Both work especially depending on your defender. It’s a game of chess when playing good players and mixing practiced hardened moves with instinct is the best way to go.
@@HattoriHanzo823 then Kobe wouldn’t have the legacy he has now
@@HattoriHanzo823 you downplaying the hard work these guys do. Maybe the trule greats like Luka always had something special, but the rest of the league worked hard as sht to get where they are
Love this guy
“It’s been working good”
Yea I’d say so lmaoo
I think Luka meant step back 3 became one of his signature moves after that game, but he was just playing as usual.
Luka is one cool cat:)
First interview I could understand what he saying.. be relaxed helped
I believe him hard work ethics and tough player
The Don 💪🏾
These are all great
I was there that game , that game winning step back on James harden was nasttty
Great use of the basketball iq no flashy moves for tv; only the ones that get you to win
This man saw James Harden and was like, "I'm just gonna take this."
Hello from Philippines.
Hiya
Supot
Nobody cares where u from
Hi
yo
Luka MPV
This is wild
I wonder if luka ever thought of doing a false step back. U get the opp off balance and their momentum will carry them into you drawing a foul. That way u get them second guessing on even attempting to go for a block or if they bite u can dribble around while they’re in the air
He does a fake step back then passes ball quickly cuz their opp stop defending for like 0.5 sec and that gives his teammate just enough time for alil distance :)
Soccer helps ur game a lot.... Feet work ND pace also hit helps ur vision o build up n a way....
This Warriors series will prove who doncic really is, if he wins this series he’s in serious consideration for best player in the world
I practice the Luka step back and it’s mentally tough taking a contested shot without rushing
Practice trying your best to shoot the same way everytime no matter who or what is coming at you. The worse that can happen is you get blocked or they will foul you. Don't let anyone rush and speed up the style and pace you want to play with on the court.
I believe he’s gonna play with Nikola Jokic down the line in his career, & The League not ready for it 💯 🃏🦄
you i’ve been saying i want to see that. that would be nuts
Two flabby boys on one team?
Yeah man. Those Two “un athletic” White Boys from Europe would put the league to shame
I believe him , most moves for me is on instinct but I still have my go tos. Funny enough I learned the spinning hop step from playing 2k 😂😂💪🏾
In the drafts scouting report they listed his step back as a strength, and their was a bunch of footage they played during his draft showing him do it. Don’t know what he’s talking.
He's talking about the james harden stepback though coz in europe ur not allowed to that.
@@vci0us045 thanks for clearing that up
Imagine Larry Bird using the stepback, Imagine Jordan using a "gatherstep" & no hand checking rule. I hate comparing players in different positions & completely hate comparing different era's. Luka da Don is gonna win 🏆 an M.V.P
Lies, his stepback threes destroyed Porzingis's Latvian national team in 2017 Eurobasket tournament. We were aiming at the finals and then met Luka in quarterfinals. I've been hating Luka ever since, even as KP's teammate.
He surely destroyed Latvia but I believe it was Dragic with the step-back, right?
There is two stepback and one is not allowed in euro..the james harden stepback is what he is talking about
Idk if my man Luka is just tired or he discovered the good american kush lol
If course it’s so lethal if he molded it mid game lol
Thats hilarious
Pls teach Luka077 the FT🙏
No coincidence he started it vs houston haha
Baby Bird lol
The elden lord
lol
So you're telling me he got hall of fame badge in space creator with 0 practice on stepback lmao
Houston fans couldn’t make it through the whole video
😂😂😂😂😂
lmao i did it was a fun memort
He admitted it once that he studied harden's move, thats why he added step back into his arsenal
If he copies the skill of Allen Iverson and Kemp combined... He would be unstoppable.
He got that step back from James Harden. They all did. Harden and CP3 have the highest bbal IQs in the game.
playing against james harden one day he just decided “im gonna da shoot step back”
Harden influence
Noti gang
🙌
that's a lie, he scored 2 step-backs against Zalgiris at the end of a game. was incredible.
He scored 2 against capella and one against harden
Like it or not.... Thank Harden for the step back
Hello from motharussia
You can't do step backs consistently in Europe because you're gonna called by refs on many occasions. Rules are much stricter in that regard in Europe.
James Harden made everybody use the step back lol
Get Luka's Mom on next. Hey now!
😂😂😂😂😂 fax
Luka should thank James Harden for inventing the step back.
Luka should have never done this podcast. Now he's jinxed. Thanks reddiick. Stop being a clout chaser.
I can't be the only one who think he got his step back from Harden Lukas look better though
Well, he did have a stepback in RM too. Maybe not covering so much ground, but it was 70% of his iso game.
Not really getting this.
He’s coming to the Clippers after he’s Max Contract.
He hates the Clippers fam 😂
His best games are against the clippers. I don’t think he wants to change that lol.
*Lakers* 😂😂😂 Irrelevant franchise. We gonna get stars even when we're trash. We're THE franchise bro.
He lied about the step back, he saw James harden do it and he copied the moved, tell the truth
It's cool to say that you stole it from Harden. No shame in that. Every great player steals from the H.O.Fers
Who?
Ikr?🤣 why he acting like his game isnt based of hardens
@@JuanNunez-wl8bo I don't see Harden doing Dirk fadeaways every game
@@JuanNunez-wl8bo It isn't.
@@JuanNunez-wl8bo luka his way more skilled than harden. Harden game was step back three/ and finish/ FT. Luka has a great post up game and, great fadeaway or 1 leg jumper.
He can take those all day, not really that unstoppable if you making 30-35% of them
If you're the most double teamed player in the league that percentage is pretty good
and he still is the best player in the league, kinda crazy
When people wonder how much better he can actually get, that right there is his room for growth. Once he raises his efficiency to 37-40%, he’s stoppable.
Considering the vast majority of those shots are off the dribble and contested with many of them multiple feet behind the line, 35% is actually very good.
@@hottakes2633 stoppable or unstoppable?
??? Maybe unblockable but definitely not unstoppable. The man shoots 31% on stepback 3's. His career average on 3's is 33% which is subpar so his stepback 3 is a worse shot than his already shaky 3. I give him props cause is 3% has been going up over the last couple of years (even though it's down this season) but that stepback 3 is style over substance.
Genuinely, I think he will pick it up by the opening game next year. He has for sure been having a bit of a stand still in his development right now though. When you watch luka, you can tell he can make it work.
The year Harden basically trademarked the step back 3, he shot .359% from 3. Not exceptional by any means. Would be interested to see where you found the step back 3 percentage stats though? Would love to take a dive
Says the guy who has zero buzzer beater step back 3s in the NBA 😂😂😂
Also it’s not about % all the time he just makes them when it counts a lot , if you’re the opposing team and he does it you’re nervous as hell until you know if he hits or misses
Hey everyone I found the box score watcher who doesn’t understand or watch basketball and thinks he can dissect the game through percentage points!
Part of his flopping strategy. Luka fans will never convince me that he isn’t a BubbleBoy and needs flopping to get space needed for “his magic” lmao please
Luka is high volume low efficiency his play of style will be hard to win a championship
but you can't stop him, he needs a co star to reach higher goals
facts
He just needs another star. But I don’t see no star coming to Dallas. He’s gonna prob have to leave
Im a dog Garcia give him what lebron had and he’s winning a chip
@@ImadogGarcia he’s a less athletic, but bigger Harden in many ways. & that’s not an insult
Luka is boring as heck
He doesn't get paid to be funny. And if you don't like it go somewhere else and do something better than throwing hate in the CZcams comments, que ya tienes una edad.
Says the nobody lol
