Redick and Draymond had awesome guests this week
The reads Luka makes at the age of 23 are mindblowing. Such a humble guy as well
He reads the game so well. Indeed, high basketball IQ.
At one time, he likened basketball to chess. We all know that chess is a mind game.
He's a basketball savant
Yeah wasn't expecting his last answer.
Jose Limjoco Basketball might as well be chess, for every move made by a team there’s an equal or better move to be made by the other team
He's a basketball savant
“Normally they send me right or left I don’t know”
What Luka actually meant was: “doesn’t matter which way they send me, I’m getting buckets” & that’s why JJ laughed
Imo I think it meant he doesn't want other teams knowing what they do against him.
You know I thought of this too but I was too lazy to write a comment about it 😂. Im glad somebody else did
@@arbernumani3709 you were too lazy to write a comment about it but you wrote an even longer comment responding to this one talking about how you were gonna type that exact comment but you were too lazy?? Lmao
Yeah cuz last night he went to his right and passed it out to spencer 🔥🔥🔥
Nope lol as a Mavs fan that watches every game i can see that the defense sends Luka to the right most of the time which is a mistake since he will just find someone at the left side. Luka said this but then immediately realized that he basically told that he likes and prefers the teams sending him to the right and wants to keep it that way so now teams might change it to other direction. So he said or to the left to try to cover up that previous statement and try to make it out as if it didn't matter which way he is forced. Luka is good enough player to be forced either way and make plays but he does prefer going to the right.
the camera multi switch between luka and jj while jj was looking at his phone was pure comedy
Felt like a scene in the office 💀
I think JJ did that intentionally to make sure Luka could fit his head out the door after the interview. JJ was flexin
Luka is a real one. Excited to watch whole episode!
Luka Dončić against other MVP candidates:
Nikola Jokić 2-1
Joel Embiid 1-0
Giannis Antetokounmpo 0-0
Ja Morant 2-0
DeMar DeRozan 1-1
Jayson Tatum 2-0
Stephen Curry - 3-1
Lebron - 1-0
Donovan - 1-1
@@lukamazing You made only one mistake, the Mavericks vs Grizzlies played four times, but Ja Morant and Luka Dončić only played in three games and Luka won in all of them, so the ratio is 3-0.
WHAT? Luka is no. 1 in defensive rating among guards right now and they say he cant play defense? thats rediculous
@@kotonbads his defense is high iQ defense. He positions himself perfectly for a contest on a drive or a close out for 3. This leaves him vulnerable for a secondary drive but when dfs comes s on the floor there’s another contest at the rim so they pull up. Check the splits of where he gets scored on most. 15+ft which are low percentage. He knows his defensive potential is limited but he’d rather give up a long 2 than a 3 or painted area shot. Like I said. He ge iQ
People don't realize how hard it is to think like Luka said, he said in his iso he looks to see if it's a big or a gaurd and whether or not they have to get out for the 3 seconds or if they can come help. That takes so much awareness and it's so hard to think so clearly when ur on the court. That's amazing, I've never heard an answer like that. Usually players say they're focused on the guy guarding them.
I'm glad someone else was as mindblown as I was when I heard that. Unreal. This is in the span of seconds while controlling an entire offense.
@@lordloquat That makes 3 of us!
@@ThatCoCoa happy to be the 4th!
Man the kid is a walking genius on the court with the magic ball in his hands...5th man here!
@@lordloquat bro every baller thinks like that. They teach you don’t watch your defender watch the help. You can always beat your defender but watch where the help is. Luka didn’t say anything special

Best guest ever 🔥 At his peak of his season, teams can put anybody or double team on him, it just doesn't matter. The only difference this year is that Luka learnt defense and how to win collectively by fully trusting his guys.
This is by far his best season!
Luka is a mix of Larry bird and magic. I call him baby bird
Nah p3
J kidd probably helped on that. Good coach.
Cmon man, this guy not even close to his peak yet
crazy how much he’d improved since his rookie year, definitely a mvp caliber player
he averaged 21-7-6 his rookie year lol. Not that he hasn't improved, but he was already really good.
@@GodInHisPrime You can be amazing and still improve a ton. That's what Luka has done. He has improved every part of his game since entering the league and the scary thought is that he can still improve much more and become even better player.
@@GodInHisPrime Exactly, he came to the league as the youngest MVP in euroleagues history, having won everyhting you could possibly win, the most accomplished teenager in basketball history. So yeah he wasn´t just some random obscure prospect like for instance Giannis or Jokic were
Yes, the crazy thing are both things together. How much he improved, but how high he was already.
@@ronibarlund4464 pretty much every good NBA player improves a ton from when they were 19. IMO it's more notable that he was as good as he was at 19.
Compare Luka to Giannis at 19... Giannis is a player that has improved a TON.
JJ Giving us Luka first major sit down interview this could be one’s of the best collabs on the podcast
The fact this young kid has TWO all-NBA first teams baffles me. Some greats don’t even have one , let alone TWO.
yup, bout to get a 3rd as well...in his 4th year...at 23 years of age
It really is unfortunate that he plays in the deepest era in basketball in terms of talent. If this dude was playing 20 years ago he’d win 3 chips guaranteed at least
@@arbernumani3709 I think he can win at least a couple in this era since he’s already so skilled, once he gets to his physical peak and conditioning in a few years he might be unanimous best player in the nba
He bout to have 3 lol
@@jalenlthomas Luka is my fav player. I think he still might get to 3 in this era, he will definitely get 1 but with guys like Giannis, Jokic and KD still in the league it will be hard to get more than 3 unless he teams up with another top level talent ( cough cough Jokic 👀 )
Craziest part about this clip was Luka’s last sentence because he did exactly that for Spencer Dinwiddie’s game winner last night.
He didn’t drive tho.. Brooklyn would rather someone else beat them, so they just doubled teamed luka, which forced him to pass, and luckily dinwiddie hit.
Ain’t that the truth. Prophetic.
It’s not really that crazy. A drive and kick is one of the most common things in basketball.
But when LeBron does it oh he scared to shoot it
@@dlp2557 nah those people are just hatin man. Never understood guys like Skip or them old school folk that wants the star player to force their shots rather than find the open man and make the right play.
Lukas a genius. I would have never thought to be watching the center during an iso
Yeah a lot of players do that since their guy is looking for the help defense
Lmao that’s basic basketball IQ. That’s usually the help defense on any drive 😂
@@aquaticlibrary he adjusted, There's no 3 sec defensive violation in other parts of the world thats why scoring in the paint ia tough.
@@marvinfollero846 yeah but it’s still basic basketball iq. That’s one thing coaches teach you to watch the help defender

Luka is so humble, unintentionally funny, and just so spontaneous u gotta love him man he’s amazing. And the way he said yes or yes it’s a phrase in Spanish but he said it in English lol 😂
Si o sii 😂
@@bilelfetouri1138 exactly 😂😂😂😂
Killa on the court and a humble guy off it
what does that mean haha. I don't understand that phrase.
@@brucewu1843 "Sí o sí" means that there is no other option, that something is going to happen or that you are going to achieve something. Eg: 1-"The glass of water will boil at a temperature of 100° sí o sí/yes or yes". 2- "I will get that job to take care of my family sí o sí" (You can't think about the possibility of you not getting the job because your family depends on you, so you motivate yourself and focus)
Luka Doncic is a special player. He's going to have an incredible career.
Yeah !! And he speaks Spanish very well too !, 😍👏🏼💕 excelente player 🙏
as a rookie he was already playing like a veteran (well he is since he was MVP in europe)
Hopefully he loses a little more weight
@@latinaforever4892 He's so cute too 😊
This podcast is becoming super legit. Great interview. It'll be cool comparing this to his podcast with JJ in 20 years
“Normally they send me right, or left; I don’t know”
A modest way of saying the defense doesn’t bother him
Getting insight into how Luka operates as a player is gonna be incredibly interesting
The mavs operate on switches/mismatches, very few teams in the league do this every possession. The thing I don't get is how luka consistently drains highly contested stepback 3's over players who are much taller than him, must be the HoF mismatch badge
@@baronlongnose3148 I swear he shoots at least 60% on those shots ay
@@baronlongnose3148 because he know how to utilize the space he created. And his shot was not in a hurry. But the concetration of the shot. Outof this world.
Just in this one clip, I can see why Luka's "basketball IQ" is on another level
Best time to get a Luka interview. He´s absolutely balling this year and I think the Mavs will win a playoff series this season.
Agreed, Dinwiddie is a nice addition and with Brunson balling out like he has been their gonna be a tough match up fosho

@@Mosx7 not beating the suns sadly
He is always balling.
@@lombardia1509 He had problems at the beginning of the season, because he wasn't in shape. Now he's in shape and better than ever.
I didn’t realize this until right this very second but I’m almost positive this is the first time I’ve ever heard Luka speak. Or ever heard his voice fr
Luka is the perfect example of an attack first point guard. His aggression forces the defense to collapse every time
That was a good response to not give up all the secrets 😂😂
I feel like this is Luka’s first podcast 😂 Ive never seen him on a platform like this. Good stuff J.J
The part where he talks about how he is watching the paint during an iso play counting the time in his head so he knows when the big has to leave the paint to avoid a 3 second call is a fascinating insight into how the mind of a genius player works. This stuff would have never occurred to me just watching. Its probably only scratching the surface into what he sees on the court too.
So the player under the basket is his teammate instead of the defender, right? I was confused by this part, because the translation version in my language if mavs community is the defender.
I swear Luka is Jokic if he was shorter and Vice Versa, wish they could play together.. the ball movement would be beautiful
I’ve been saying this for months. Luka and Jokic would dominate the NBA together
I can't wait for this. Bring Jokic next, please.
that is a must.
They need to bring Giannis in as well

I’m hella excited to watch the whole episode Luka is a beast and JJ’s is an amazing host 🔥🙏 👏
Been waiting for this interview. Thank you 🔥🔥
Idk why people say Luka is a bad defender when he doesn't get hunted by the opposite team's best player. The only time that happened was with Kawhi.
Luka is #1 rebounds/defensive rating among guards in a top 3 defensive team, he should be considered for an all defensive team, kidd said he deserves to be on 2nd team, DoDo 1st
yeah and he pretty much can't do anything about it, in fact, anyone in that Mavs roster can't do a single thing against Kawhi
With the big body he has and his high IQ he can easily be an elite defender but to be fair defense takes time to develop and it's alot harder to defend in this era of basketball compared to score.
@@dave1123 more like no one can do anything about Kawhi in the entire league except for select DPOY candidates like Draymond and Giannis maybe...
@@baronlongnose3148 Luka is a solid defender now, but those defensive ratings don't mean anything tbh. When you are part of an elite team defense, you will automatically have a very high defensive rating.
Luka is doing a solid job on defense, but he is definitely not one of the best defenders on his team.
And since when is Luka considered a guard? He is a Point Forward just like Lebron.
Shout to JJ for real basketball conversations & real genuine content
the kid can friggin count the seconds the center is in the key WHILE being double-teamed up top.. WTF
Dude’s been in a pro environment since he was 13. He knows what he’s doing
@@arbernumani3709 Yep, but I would bet that a lot of pro players don't pay attention if the center has been 3 seconds in the key meanwhile they are dribbling his matchup.
@@Gercluni think you're right. That's a difference between star player from role player. Superstar from star and GOAT from superstar. That's why Doncic, Lebron, KD, Curry, Jokic play on another level. They are automatically analyzing the situation. Doncic said that he look for center, how he move. He talked bout this 5-10 seconds. In real time that takes for him 0.5 seconds mostly.
@@oktayibrahimov8012 lol that’s not hard
Really looking forward to the full episode. I feel like this is gonna be really interesting. When you're excelling at 16 years old against grown men, you have to learn a few tricks and I feel like his game was much more developed than other guys in his draft class.
Not just his draft class but most before and after too!
@I Like Turtles Agreed. I caught all kinds of abuse on Twitter when people were asking who is Zion the best prospect since - and I said Luka.😂
The best American guys tend to be one and done in college, there's only so much you can really learn in that time. Playing grown men who don't want to get embarassed by a kid gives you a different type of education.

Than u JJ, this is THE PODCAST.
Luka really did give up a secret. Lol. The first thing he looks for is if there's a big under the rim, if he can be pulled out or if he's out in space and is trying to close out. He picks his shot accordingly.
Talent is on such a high level in NBA that even the smallest thing like this makes huge difference
I feel like this is what any great scorer does though. Like obviously, you’re waiting for the paint to clear of any bigs and if they pack the paint, you take a jumper from midrange or three. Just a fundamental concept, not a secret really.
It's not really a secret he's just excellent at implementing the strategy.
