Also, I'd imagine short guards have to exert a lot just to get a good at the basket. That's why their FG% season after season is likely never higher than low 40%, which isn't great.
Take Kemba. Very talented dude. But he got schooled by Emmanuel Mudiay because Mudiay used the basic strategy of backing down a smaller defender. That should never happen to an elite player, where a borderline bench/starting player for a bad team beats you like that, without even being on fire.
Giannis was a homerun pick guy. Hes reaching the potential they saw when drafting him and leading the bucks to Ws. Anytime you draft a player you can build a team around is a homerun the way I see it

I'm with ryan hollins on this. I'm taking the star that makes an impact right away and teams should regret passing him for players who will be at his lvl in 2-3
Years. What they talked about is right though, you want to build with what fits your system and doncic clearly didn't fit with the suns or kings, tbh he would have regressed those teams by the way he slows the tempo.
Luka can't play on a fast pace team because he's not athletic? First, If you're in the nba, you are athletic. Second, Steve Nash and the Suns.
he is not fast yes, but did you see that clip where he drove at PAUL MILSAP, absorb the contact and still finished! He also have amazing break letting shot blockers pass by for an open floater. Not fast but athletic but for sure!

This woman is ridiculous. Luka could have played on ANY team, so long as he was granted the same opportunity. He could have played in any system, he could have played with anyone. Luka CAN play pg, but he's a SF. He is great OFF THE BALL, not just on it. He could have played with ANYONE, ANYWHERE. He can play 1-4(small ball lineup at least). He can dribble, pass, shoot ANYWHERE. This kid should have gone #1 and if Phoenix or Sac didnt want him, you trade down. Marvin Bagley could become something special, so could ayton, so could jarren Jackson and trae young. Luka is obviously the best RIGHT NOW with the highest ceiling(aka none). The rest of those guys have significant knocks on their game. Luka was disrespected cause he's european and white, its that simple.
Luka has the highest floor, we don't know who has the highest ceiling yet. As for weaknesses, he's clearly not a very good defender and his athleticism is average at best. That being said, he's absolutely been spectacular so far. I think the criticisms were warranted considering the speed of the NBA compared to the European style of ball, but he's had a great transition at this point. I just wish you didn't chalk it up to him being European and white as to why he was passed up.

Honestly, I don’t remember. The League Draft was passing up Luka because he’s European, but not in a racist manner of thinking. You see, scouts for each team mostly research at popular high schools and colleges IN THE US for good prospects. Luka, wasn’t properly scouted by all teams and because of it, he was passed up. Funny how they doubted a kid who dominated a grown man’s league full of proven athletes and veterans when they picked some from college basketball which is full of uncertain talent with barely any experience. It should’ve been a no brainer. No matter how bad that other league is, it is definitely not worse than Collegiate Basketball.
I swear, Luka is so much more advanced. It’s like when a highschooler shows up to a kiddie playground to play dodgeball. For some reason they pass up the highschooler for some kid who’s pretty good for their standards. It should’ve been a no-brainer.

I have to agree with Ryan Hollins here. In the NBA if you're drafting in the top 5, then you can't draft based off of the position you need the most unless you love both guys. The whole reason to tank is to get a star player. Luka is that and I'm not saying Ayton or Bagley isn't going to be. I'm just saying if they drafted those guys based off of position instead of the best player available, then they messed up.
Best player available can hunt you a lot bud... You don't know what you're talking about... These rookies are raw and some of them become great after years of the NBA. 76ers have failed so many times taking the best player available and became busts ex.(Okafor, Noel, Fultz). Lots of players in the HOF got passed on their draft class like Kobe or Nash because they were not better than their draft mates at that time and they were so raw. Luka is good, so is Ayton , JJJ and Bagley (when he gets minutes), knox and even trae young. Idk what happened to basketball when we started talking about regret and busts so early like the suns drafted the next darko milicic. It takes time to develop to the nba basketball and they're all coming into there own as pros. Were only half a season into these guys careers and we've seen flashes that they're franchise cornerstones. We have two rookies averaging a double in ayton and trae young. Idk when we started to hate on prospects 20 games into their careers, it took years for steph curry, jimmy butler, Giannis, Kemba, jokic, Paul George, harden, etc to play at the level were comparing these rookies too. Lastly, it's just lazy luka on the suns or kings sounds terrible the mavs picked up DeAndre jordan specifically to run pick n roll with luka, with knock down shooters in Harrison barnes, and wesley Matthew's, they've yielded him the offrense. The suns have pieces and can get cam reddish as a combo guard with Booker, ayton, oubre, they could trade Josh Jackson for a point guard, what's needed for them to turn the corner. The kings have changed their culture and de'aaron fox is averaging 19 on 47% shooting and buddy hield is playing excellent. How can the kings become a perennial playoff team what are they lacking. If he would go to Atlanta, Suns teams would be in place of Dallas now I am 100% sure about this. He giver great stats but he also make all other players in team 20% better. Luka Doncic is and will be a way better player than Bagley (and Ayton), how passing on him for Bagley could be the right choice, it doesn't make any sense...Passing on a guy that will be a top 5 player for more than a decade is an awful choice...

Passing on Luka will be a mistake no matter what. The Mavs pick can't be top 3, and we already knew it when the trade was made.

They're both right. Luka should've gone number 1 but those teams that passed up on him got players at are a better fit for their system. So no, they shouldn't regret passing up on Luka (Well... the Hawks probably should) but Luka is by far the best player on this draft.
Right now he is but 3 years from now Ayton will be guaranteed. Bigs take a few more years in the NBA (all the best bigs didn't take off until 24 years old)

Luka has been amazing for the Mavs and while the Suns need a point guard, I’m happy with Ayton, I feel like once him puts on some weight and gets pushed around a little bit more by some of the older stronger centers in the league, he’ll really start to dominate, during Phoenix’s four game win streak he was averaging like 24 and 16, so I think the Suns and the Mavs will both by happy with their picks when all is said and done
Ryan Hollins is right about Luka... However... Him saying that he played in the spanish league is a HUGE overstatement... He played for cb gran canaria (my hometown team) he was the fourth option in the center position here and we only had three centers... And he was cut from the team in the middle of the season because he wasn't good enough for us (or for any team competing in the euroleague or the eurocup)

This Kid is the best of 2017 draft and is going to improve his game. He will learn how to compete against ppl who rely on their « athletism » first, just like he learned how to compete with grown-men who were stronger than him.

Luka can play with any team. With faster paced teams, simply move him to the front court. With the Kings for example, he would easily play 3 or 4. Rebound and push the ball. Obviously rebounds statistics would increase. Also team possessions would increase due to the faster pace. No doubt more triple doubles would appear via his superior skill set to shoot, pass and rebound.
This kid been playing euro league since he was 15! This kid is THE TRUTH!! Averaging 19/6/6! Put up Jordan like rookie numbers! I pray this kid stays healthy and gets another all star with him!!!!

What a bs of an argument. Slovenia played and won with a very high pace in Eurobasket 2017 where Doncic was selected in a tournament's best starting lineup. His shooting and pick n roll offense are amazing and he'll improve his athleticism in the summer.
