Pass at 1:55 looks simple, but it requires SO MUCH vision and timing to execute. DJ appears open as he starts his roll, but he's actually not because of all the help converging on him (especially from Davis). Luka waits a split second to when DJ is seemingly surrounded, THEN decides to pass the ball just as the help starts to recover back to the perimeter and their momentum takes them away from DJ. Luka doesn't pass to the open player who will be covered, he passes to the covered player who WILL be open.

People, Chauncey is one of the smartest players ever... he had an insane basketball IQ and he was also all about making the right play to WIN... that's why he loves Luka so much... Luka plays to WIN... he would take a win with him having 2 points over a loss with him having 20...
Also what Chauncey is saying about Luka being one of the best PLAYERS in the NBA right now is absolutely true because he plays way above the level that players his age play and the main thing is his CLUTCH PERFORMANCE.... you see players 22-23 years old that are already stars in the NBA have huge trouble shooting the big shot in the end... and this guy does it like it's second nature to him... he's as cool as Chauncey was (huge clutch performer in his prime) or even as Kobe was... you don't see him hurry or throw it up on a prayer... he dribbles over and over... he feints over and over... until he gets the tiny little amount of space he needs to shoot... and when he gets it you see him release the ball without being in a hurry, without fear of the clock or the opponent... he thinks "this is my shot... I got it... just another shot..."
This is PRICELESS on a player... LeBron freakin James has struggled in clutch time for the first DECADE of his career... and he may even be the best player that has ever walked the planet earth... best all around player for sure... Jordan much better scorer... Lebron much better all around... Basketball is not about scoring or passing... basketball is ultimately about WINNING... and this kid is a winner... if Lebron could trade Kuzma, Ingram and Lonzo (I'm a huge fan of Lonzo btw... you all haters are clueless about good basketball... the kid has good work ethic and huge potential) all together for him he would do it on a heartbeat... you can find another Ingram, you can find another Kuzma, you can find another athletic wing... finding a clutch shooting winner??? Once every decade...
And finally... assist numbers are worth jack shit... COURT VISION IS WHAT MATTERS... making the right pass even if it's not an assist... people say "he has more assists... he's a better passer...". NO!!! The man with the most assists is not the best passer... in that logic Westbrook who has almost zero awareness of which one is the best pass (without it being an assist) would be a better passer than LeBron... and Duncan would be a mediocre passer because he didn't have 10 assists... but Duncan was a godlike court vision passer... so stop counting freakin assists... assists aren't everything... numbers aren't everything... there's only one stat that counts... WHO WINS THE MOST GAMES... which means out of all the guys with big numbers who's numbers are translating into the most upside for his team... big number without good results for the team are useless... they mean nothing...
Thanks for reading all this crap... 😁

One thing I truly give to Larry 100% over LeBron is that he was a WINNER... the man was clutch as hell and he wasn't scared to get into anyone's face... and he trash-talked... he was a godly trash talker... so on that one, on being a clutch winner Larry wins easy over Bron Bron...

Rick Carlisle coached Chauncey to ECF in '03 and now coaches Doncic. He also coached undrafted Ben Wallace into a 2x DPY superstar. Then coached Ron Artest to DPY the next year and got IND to ECF, and later got Dirk to a championship. I think he deserves some of the credit for Doncic's success. Luka's great himself, but maybe not as good this soon if playing for a lesser coach.

What's crazy is that all of those plays look like they're locked down completely then Doncic does a little footwork and it becomes a bucket. I think lots of people assumed his lack of explosiveness or athleticism would keep him from making it work in the NBA, but his skill set and fundamentals and play making abilities are through the roof
