  • Why is West Asia Betting on a Struggling Pakistan? | Vantage with Palki Sharma
West Asian countries, especially Gulf Muslim states, are lining up to invest in Pakistan's struggling economy. Iran's president visited Pakistan last month to expand trade relations. Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman is also expected to visit later this month and sign investment deals worth $5 billion. Pakistan is expecting investments worth $50 billion from Saudi Arabia and the UAE in the next five years. The rush to invest comes amid Islamabad's expedited push to privatise state-owned businesses and hand out licenses to mine natural resources. Will this hurried sell-off hurt Pakistan in the long run? How should India see this growing partnership between West Asia and Pakistan? Palki Sharma tells you.

Indian civilians quite frankly don’t care about Pakistan, unless Indians are asked about Pak specifically. As for the GoI, they would actually prefer a stabilised Pakistan since any unstable or failed nation is not only a direct threat to itself (economic and social instability), but also to the world, especially its neighbours. Failed states have a power vacuum and due to this vacuum, it tends to become radicalised very quickly. And it is no secret that radicalisation in Pakistan has caused them to send terrorists across the border to attack the Indian parliament and civil spaces continuously. So, trust me, nobody wants Pakistan to become stable more than the Indian Government.

Now what Palki mentioned about Private monopoly is a valid question, but Pakistan is aware of that. So what Pakistan is doing is actually not putting all the fruits in the same basket, but diversing it with competitors. Not only Saudi investors has been called but also Qatari, Japanese and after sometime you'll hear about Kuwaitis as well. Pakistan is also making deals and agreements with Turks which are rivals of Saudis. Pakistan is creating a competition of different countries and investors, which is definitely a good move, that creates room of investments and avoid monopolies as well.

I would love to see india investing in our country. If India were to be like USA Pakistan would be like canada to her thats how prosperity could be attained in the region which most of world powers dont like to see unfortunately. Secondly unless corruption would be
controlled there is no point getting investments. Thirdly Ms Palki should be finance minister for Pakistan 😂 really impressed with her reports specially about economic issues and their solutions within Pakistan

One simple solution is to expand business terms with India in multiple business ventures and providing greater access to other countries via trade route of Pakistan...Only our dumbfounded estab.... understands this. Dushman kay bachon ko parhana hai nara should be instead promote peace through diplomacy.

Govt. Dont run organizations.. Its better to privatize the sector, take the example of AIR india..
Yes, i disagree that govt is giving stake in Reqo dik project which has copper and gold mines. But its a give and take situation, they will sell Reqo dik mines for cheap and get more investment in other sectors.
