    The battery in the Quest 3 is 19.44Wh vs 14Wh in the Quest 2. The XR2 Gen 2 is supposedly 50 percent more efficient and wifi 6e is more efficient as well (assuming you have a supporting router or access point), so presumably it's the extra cameras, the depth sensor and the dual displays which are chewing through the battery. If you get a Power Bank for it, make sure it supports 33W USB-C PD (although the Quest 3 only draws up to 27W). That way it won't start using the internal battery until the power bank is depleted, at which point you can whack the power bank on charge while using the internal battery and keep on keeping on.

      I warned about the battery life before the Quest 3 was released. The GPU is up to 2.5 times faster than the Quest 2 GPU, but uses up to two times more power. Not such a great leap forward as we were told for portable devices.

  • @FlyingFun.
    @FlyingFun. Před 7 měsíci +6

    So they advertise it at £480, but to be useful it needs to be the 512gb so £620,
    Then it needs a better strap and battery so another £100,
    A charging dock sounds very useful £130.
    So £850 is the real price just for the basic thing without buying games or looking for any particular accessories to personalise it for each individuals needs.
    And the reports of read so far are that the microphone is terrible and that the psvr picture is sharper and clearer, And the passthrough is only so so especially in low light.
    I'm waiting for vr to become cheap AND good enough to just work convincingly and I really want to play decent flight sims in vr which so far is requiring high end pc too.
    Looks like I'll be waiting a LONG time.

    i got my Quest 3 this morning and i agree, the battery life sucks. Coming from the Quest 2 I went ahead and ordered an elite strap also since I knew the head strap would need to be replaced, but surprisingly, I find it more comfortable than I thought. I am loving the better resolution and the lenses though.

      You can lower the brightness level to get more battery life. I usually use around 33% brightness and it still look nice to me. Well i actually lower that much cuz the higher brightness causes too much eye fatigue for me. I do notice the battery drain alot slower when compare to 100%. Might look weird at first at that low of brightness but after your eye adjust to it its look fine.

    Would you please answer a question. So why does Quest3 use ANY battery when connected to PC and can get all the juice it needs from there? I would want to use it for PC gaming and I am shocked to face the fact that I wouldn't be able to play more than about 2 hours even when it is connected to my PC directly. Any device I use that has got a battery works on the same principal: they don't use any power of their batteries from the very moment I plugged them on electric wire... What's more, their batteries will charge even if the device is in use...

    • @Kumodot

      I have a 10000 mAH battery. This battery Has 4 levels on battery indicator, and On Quest2 it holds up the charging up to having just 1 indicator on, and then the Quest2 starts to discharge. On Q3, is start discharging right away, and Q3 dies before the Pack is empty because it cannot provide enough power anymore to it. I did the test yesterday. My Q3 shutdown saying (Battery Low) and the Anker Battery Pack still have around 40-50% of juice on it. :( SO, it seems it does not matter much if you have more batteries or more juice if the Quest 3 Discharcharge under his limits it will shutdown since it discharges FASTER than the charge can hold... Maybe there's a stronger batterypack (with more watts/output) that can keep up with it.

    •  Před 7 měsíci

      @@Kumodot The problem is not how much energy left your battery pack has but how fast can it be served to the headset relative to how fast the headset uses it. Q2 uses low wattage and so it's easier to be kept "feed".The Q2 best batteries only can give 15W (5V 3A) and the Q2 charger is 10W (5V 2A) but the Q3 charger gives 18W (9V 2A) so the old batteries, even the good ones, can't match what it needs ; I have to test this yet but on forums say that a 22.5W battery (9V 2.5A) works fine with Q3.

    I wish they soon add a way to turn hand detection with a single and fast gesture or something. Its very annoying now using floating monitors and things like that and suddenly is starts to track my hand on the real keyboard and mouse overlaying with the pointer and eventually it do accidental clicks. Another weird things is that i can't find the START RECORDING button while i am in Virtual Desktop using the controllers. I have to change to hand control, and do a "click" with my right hand on to see the shortcut for recording video. And there's a lot of more inconsistencies here and there. Meta need to speed up polishing those fixes now that me and more people are willing to use the Headset for more time with the Passthrough. And Yes. I am using an Anker 10000 mAh battery with mine (as i was using with Q2). But Q3 discharge faster than the battery can keep up with, so when the headset hits 19% even if the Pack is at 50% it starts to say "better Low", and soon it will shut down. :(

    The 512 gig version headset works out quite expensive once you add a battery head strap for extra comfort and more play time

    • @chan13153
      @chan13153 Před 7 měsíci

      Wait a little longer. bobo M3 uses the same batteries as the M2 so they don't supply nearly enough power to the Q3 to prevent it from draining at a fairly fast rate. Also the capacity is too small. I'm hearing at best 1 hour of extra playtime while the Q3 will still drain at a fairly fast rate too. Basically draining twice as slow as normal only. Bobo needs to release a new battery with USB Power Delivery at 20 watts. They also need to increase the capacity to about 8,000+ mah. This should give it about 2 hours of battery and it will have enough power to actually prevent the Q3 battery from draining.

    SOLUTION>>> Get UNLIMITED time with the Quest 3: Just get a 5m usbc cable and any USBC supply that can deliver > 27W at 9V. It has to be able to deliver 9V with 3A = 27W on the port. 9V at 2A from the original charger is NOT enough, its only 18W and the headset draws at all settings max around 24-25W. The same goes with a powerbank, there are many 20.000mah that can deliver 9V at 3A keeping the headset full and if put in the back pocket of the pants for ex are much more comfortable than on the head. Have fun! (Remember, the Quest 3 does NOT use the 12V mode, only up to the 9V! So it has to be 9V at 3A!

    • @chan13153

      Theres no battery issues. Alot of people are simply using chargers/powerbanks that aren't strong enough to handle the Q3. You nee a USB Power Delivery Powerbank/charger with at least 18 watts (9v/12v). A lot of chargers people are using are only 5v at 2.4a. Which isn't powerful enough. Q3 will only pull at most 9-10watts from a 5v source. While on a PD charger it will pull up to 18 watts. This is why people are having battery issues even when plugged in.

    not a justification but more battery consumption is kind of natural when the jump in performance is this big... just to say the Q2 has one display, Q3 has one per eye, more resolution and way better chip is equal more power needed... the battery is actually bigger than the previous one but the consumptions are more and if you wanna keep the design small and the weight in check (it's already heavier than the 2) you need to have compromised... Q2 battery life was lasting way more time but already pretty much every person I know had a battery pack with it anyway and you can use it with the 3 as well easily.... if you are a casual player slightly less than 2 hrs is enough in VR, if you are not you have a battery pack already anyway.
    In the other hand totally agree with the price of the accessories, but even there, is not so overpriced like ppl are saying, it is overpriced, but not insanily.... I start seeing knuckle strap like the original, with battery cover, at 5 to 8 dollars cheaper, the old wireless charging dock for Q2, the good quality one, were around the 90$ marks anyway, someone over 100$, this one is 30$ more but obviously you pay for the brand, every company does the same, the partnership for the prescription lenses is actually at a good price and tbf the face mask in different color is just a novelty, no one in a good state of mind will buy it instead of an actual headstrap
