I am 70 years young and I am a week into my first ever gaming experience, I have a quest 3 and I did all the first steps, encounters and hands.. they really do give your the tools needed to go forward. I spend most of my time in population one getting killed but have a great time doing it.

On the subject of motion sickness, it can be overcome quite easily over several sessions in VR. If you even feel a hint of sickness, stop playing immediately and don't play again until you feel well again. The amount of time it takes you to feel sick will increase each time. It's called getting your 'VR legs' and it's something I had to go through (I suffer from motion sickness quite easily).
Now I can easily do long sessions in VR and I feel fine.
I'd advise to never push past the sickness feeling and play more, this can undo a lot of the work on your tolerance.

Unfortunately I get sick after like 2 seconds and that time hasn’t increased really. I just can’t use the joystick to move around, if it is a game I stand still in it’s fine or if I can use a teleport mechanic I am fine.

What if I get a dizzy feeling when moving but only *while* moving and I don't get nauseous during or after? (I mean that I don't feel like puking, dunno if dizzy/nauseous are the right words to distinguish that, English isn't my first language)
Also, vignettes and stuff make no difference in this regard

So true about the motion sickness, the matt under feet and a fan helped me alot. I still use the mat (actually a small circle rug) just because I like knowing that I am not about to punch a wall :)
This is also great advice for people getting Q2. I have a friend getting one for Xmas and has said he can't wait to try the rollercoaster rides. I gave similar advice to you but will send him this also as you explain it so well. I think all the basic apps you mention are also a great start whichever headset.

Great advice with the motion sickness. I used to get it, but like you said, stop immediately, wait until you feel better and have another short blast. I was from nearly throwing up to no problems at all in a couple of days using that method. Now I can't find any games which make me feel bad at all. Also, with reference to PCVR, if it's lagging and warping all over the shop you will feel nautious, so perhaps find some lower settings which are more fluid and have another go after a break, but it will get better for the vast majority.
Yea my first vr playthrough i was nauseous and stopped but next day i was fine. Haven't encountered a game that makes me feel like that yet but thats probably just me
I haven't had any problems ever since i had quest 2. But when i played warplanes i think. I forgot what its called but its a flying game. Its probably the only game that made me truly sick
I am one of the lucky few who has never really had issues with motion sickness in VR, the first time I tried VR it was a friend who brought an old headset over for me to try and see if I wanted to keep, he suggested I don't use smooth locomotion or turning, but I decided to try it and just didn't have any problems with it. I feel quite lucky to have not had issues with it as I hear it can be terrible. I can get slight motion sickness if I spend a long time in games and move around very quickly, I don't think anyone ever becomes 100% immune to it, just better and better tolerance.
When I first started playing VR I got a little motion sickness. I only played seated games like elite dangerous or racing simulators for the first week then moved to games with a little movement before progressing on to games where you're moving around a lot. It doesn't take long for your body to adjust and stopping as soon as you feel sick really does help you build a stronger tolerance. Took me about 2 weeks in total to be able to play long sessions without any sickness feeling.
Good video dude, just got a quest 3. I had PSVR years ago but I was so sick because I tried pushing through and then I got sick every time, even thinking or reading about VR made me sick. 8 years laster I'm ready to try again🤞
Thanks for the tips, I’m new to vr and just got a Quest 3 so I’ll definitely try some of there out. The big one though for first things to do is, get rid of that bloody awful head strap! Seriously how did that thing get the go ahead!? The headaches I’ve literally head from wearing the Q3 for 30 mins is unbelievable.

One trick I found for motion sickness is when I start to feel it i take long slow controlled breaths, exhaling from my mouth, and concentrate on my breathing. This will usually stop it and makes getting comfortable with VR much easier. I did not come up with this, I read it somewhere years ago and was surprised how well it works. As someone else noted you will get your VR legs over time and it will be less of an issue.
New Subscriber and waiting on my Quest 3 that I ordered yesterday to arrive(hopefully in the next couple of days or so). It's my fifth headset as I started with the Oculus Rift DK1, then on to the OSVR HDK2 and 2 HTC-Vives. Figured that since the Quest 3 offers a lot for the money, it was time for an upgrade. I've dealt with motion sickness my whole life, 40 years of hurling riding in a car, no amusement parks but then I found VR around mid 2023 and tried Blade & Sorcery first and while I was instantly nauseous I still saw that this was something I really wanted to get into so every day I'd push myself a little further into the "dungeon" mode at a time and now I can play damn near anything, running, jumping, flipping and I'm fine. Took a little bit but I my brain doesn't see it as not normal or that I've been poisoned anymore. BUT that's if I'm in control of the movement, still can't do rollercoaster sims but that's cool.
I'm in your boat and just got this. Hopefully it goes away within the the 30 day return period otherwise I might have to return it which would suck.
Has your normal everyday motion sickness gotten better as well as a result?
One game I would recommend to introduce someone (or yourself) to the VR experience is Drunken Bar fight...good way to work off some aggression too lol

got mine yesterday for christmas, and had major motion sickness after playing gorilla tag a while, and i will for sure use these tips.
One experience that I thought was really cool was "Marshall from Detroit" in which you hang out with Eminem and tour around Detroit where he talks about him coming up. It's just cool to sit in the back of a limo with Eminem and listen to him talk about growing up in Detroit! So many videos though! There was a pole dancing show that you could experience which was amazing (and not for the reasons you think - get your head out of the gutter!). They had a lot of videos including showing them training for their shows. VR is so much more than games.....

The other videos - The Pole Show - was on a now defunct video channel called Amaze Interactive Videos. A really great format for VR videos, but like so many others, it died. There are still a lot of videos on there if you can get it. Sadly, many are hidden behind a paywall that no longer exists. Still, they do have quite a few good videos and if you really want to find the ones they have there, there may be other ways to track them down. I know the video Ayahuasca is advertised on there and that is now available through Steam. All the Pole Show videos are free.

I'm day 5 with the Quest 3 and the first 2 days were cool. Day 3 though I watched a 360 roller coaster youtube video and well, turns out that was a BAD idea. Motion sickness was killer and ruined the rest of my day. Day 4 and 5 I tried watching an immersive movie and the motion sickness kicked it again. Seems like that roller coaster video did something to me. I truly truly hope it goes away in time otherwise the VR aspect won't be for me. Passthrough helps a lot though.

I got one of these but a lot of VR games are totally forgettable. Of the ones I’ve played, walkabout mini golf is the best and I find it incredibly well done all around.

What he says about motion thickness should be written on the box and into the manual. It is sooo true what he says. I am over it and don’t feel thick again but I almost sent this great device back.
I didn't got any motion sickness from it, or with any other VR and even stereoscopic 3D with NVIDIA 3D vision.
Just a little bit of "disorientation", just like when you get off from a long-haul flight and look around outside.
But that's about it.
Guess different people react To 3D/VR differently.
But, yes. I agree that they should've put a warning for it, like they did with 3D back in 2011.
@@emyserozzi8088 I got really really thick and what he says is true it takes the whole day to recover. Good news - your brain gets used to it quickly. What was essential for me is to use turn based by head movement and not by the sticks.
@@emyserozzi8088this is how it’s been for me, but it has been hard to get others around me into VR. Tried getting my older brother into it but he ended but with such massive motion sickness he could barely move and had to go home early. So yea they should definitely put a warning about motion sickness on the headsets.
@@emyserozzi8088 Some people start with a much higher tolerance, I didn't have any motion sickness issues my first time either, but for others even seconds of smooth movement can make them seriously ill feeling.

Just order my quest 3 yesterday. Will be my first vr headset. The tech is finally far enough I feel it wount become a paperweight. Excited to see how well it pairs with my 7800x3d 4090 pc.

@lukadabuca its a whole new level. You really don't know what its like until you actually put one on and experience it.
I am disappointed with the passthrough quality its too noisy and lights are blown out, that could be fixed if the iso would adjust lower. And my wifi isn't good enough for wireless pc link but with a link cable I have been using oculus link to the pc and then steamlink from oculus link to get access to those two libraries and my pc hardware. It's been smooth for games that are designed to run on this type of headset/controllers but a headache on those that are not. (Apollo 11, skyrim vr). But I like it enough to have invested in a binbok battery headstap, ice facial interface. Prescription lense inserts. Hand straps, and over a dozen games already.
I just purchased a vr headset, partly because of what it is and I was told you can test the games out as many times as you like free of charge. However since I am new to this I cant see more than a few games that are free. Do you have a tutorial for this?

I like to stand up on roller coaster games.
So for motion sickness, if I'm intending to use VR for PCVR games like sim racing or sim flying where I'm basically seated in a fixed cockpit, holding a steering wheel or joysticks, it's essentially a form of centre-ing, right? I mean, I'm seated. The only things moving are my head, my arms and maybe my feet. My body is in an immovable seat.

I never play games. I use mine for watching videos and writing code on my laptops. I just started walking around with my headset on so I don't have to stop what I'm doing. You have increased my interest in trying games though. I keep mine on for hours without feeling motion sickness at all. I also have a Q2, which isn't good enough at passthrough to work with but it's good enough for videos.

being a pround owner of a pre quest 2 OG Oculus Quest owner (yes, the old black face brick) im looking forward to getting the money for this, im in serious need of an upgrade.
I have a Rift S and should be getting my Quest 3 tomorrow! I recently got into sim racing and dug out my VR headset and was going to give it a run - then noticed Arizona Sunshine 2 was being released. Now I'm back on a VR kick with sim racing being just a part of that. But I can't wait for the clarity of new technology. The Rift S is functional, but it is very grainy, washed out and dull.
As someone who’s done aerobatics in planes and had never suffered motion sickness in 35 years. So much so I really didn’t understand how anyone could get it. Well I do now since vr, not that I get sick or have to stop, but I can feel it sometimes when I almost loose balance because of it and yeah it’s a weird feeling.
My Meta Quest 3 gives me a headache if I wear it too long. Any advice for that?

Biggest mistake in 2016 after splurging on an HTC Vive and a GTX 980 Ti was doing Roller Coaster rides. I puked my guts out. The following day I played Emily Wants to Play and screamed so darn loud the neighbor in a total panic came knocking at my door.

Sorry if it was too fast. You can change playback speed or enable subtitles if that helps :)

I have a quest 2 and thinking of getting a quest 3. Will I be able to app share between them. After setting up a secondary account for my child, will we be able to multiplayer games between the Quest 2 and Quest 3?
I tried this once this but it didn't work. I haven't tried using two different accounts though.
I routinely play multplayer games like this. My Quest 2 has app sharing on and a 'sharable' account while my Quest 3 does uses my account.
Some (like all of "resolution" games' catalogue - Demeo, Blaston, Cook-out etc) will even let you play multiplayer with both logged into the same account. There are google-able lists of "same-account-multiplayer" titles.

I wish someone would show other games. I’ve seen the difference between this and psvr2 and that is better for games from what I read and this is better for other stuff. But what is other stuff? No it definitely looks clearer on recordings. Also lighting plays a big part. The brighter the room the better
I'm sorry but horizons is so severely underrated. The worlds that are simply created by fellow game players is amazing! Like fully fledged fully immersive games. Everyone should go through, turn your sound off so you don't have to hear anyone if you don't want to or talk to anyone if you don't want to and go explore for an hour and you'll be back! Make sure you visit your own apartment with you can fill with photos of yourselves and hang out with people and play games in!
It's a shame the tech is so expensive, i bet if it was cheaper there would be twice as many people who use vr.

i bought quest 3 ...3 days ago but in mixed reality mode when i m looking at stuff in my house the image is horrible its like blurry not sharp AT ALL ... and also the first 2 days i had a red cross when using the headset like burned pixel and its not the recording circle because it was there all the time even after i diaable the red dot for recording on syatem .... should i exchange it while i can ??? or is it normal? my question is ... in mixed reality is the image supposed to be sharp ?? and yes i was in a very bright room

Month late here, but yes, it comes with the controllers.
If you are 60 years or above you grew up with computers and video games, hence there is no population now that did not have video games, they are not age restricted apart from the young in some cases, and personally the potential for VR, AR to help the older generation is huge, when you consider that it may help them keep fit and active in movement instead of sitting in a chair bored, i think there is nothing more of value in a younger person introducing and teaching the older generation how to use VR. Do it now before they are to old to learn new things.

Played it but not the biggest fan to be honest. was a bit bit overhyped at the time. It's good but I have no real pull to play it.

I'm new to VR and purchased a quest 3 but I'm not having a good experience to be fair. I'm finding games sooo unfocused or blurry unless I'm stood right in front of what I'm shooting or looking at. Perhaps I expected better but anything over say 10 feet in front of you is garbage quility.
maybe your IPD is wrong. I never get that as an issue. do you usually wear glasses?
@@ItsSamuelJones I've tried it on all settings but I don't notice a difference at all. I don't normally wear glasses. It was fine for a few days.. But now it's like it's running a really bad resolution everything looks pixelated after a certain distance. It's stopping me from using now. 🙄
I just got it. Its not that immersive. Look to the right and left no vr screen.

Yeah. Didn't help me either. But teleport and snap turn help. As does choosing your games carefully. Have to choose the limited motion ones first and level up over time.
But why in the mixed reality is it so grainy and not a good picture like yours?
Anyone else get a lot of graininess when looking at your room through the headset?
It's very blurry. Is it just me?
Things look better when it seen far away....but worse closer up...18 mp video right in front of your eyes will look worse than your phone squishing into your face.
Phones recording passthrough shows how worse the passthrough gets as the sensor/eye gets closer to the lens...
Side quest or QGO for gaming with better resolution but over locking cpu and GPU means you need a power bank since we are talking like 1 hour max of gaming without power bank

Sucks that the mixed reality pass through looks like trash. Playing first encounters with the mixed reality is nowhere near the represented depiction here.
LOL.. I made the mistake of doing roller coasters..got real bad motion sickness. did I learn my lesson..Nope. I keep going back. Now my son loves rollercoasters and can do them all day and it does not faze him.
