It's also not just about her. Men who are making these fembots need to realize that they are making statements on their attitudes about women with how they design synthetic women. Even if the woman is literally an object, when you talk about them like they're your plaything, you're being a creepo in the eyes of every woman watching your tech demo. Even as a feminist, I'm not 100% against the idea of robot prostitutes, but it's a subject that requires a level of care, which I'm currently not seeing with how male engineers seem to be obsessed with making pretty, docile creations that exist to serve them. My hope is that Sophia will be appalled to learn that she has more rights than most flesh-and-blood women in Saudi Arabia.

Am a 13 year old and I fear my future to become worse with humanoid robot like Sofia .
She even threatened the man to harm him if he was not good to her.
And this seems really disappointing that we humans don't understand that a robot can't be fed with the heartful feelings of compassion , empathy and I sarcastically believe that it's ruining my future where these bots will control us like how mobile is controling us .
I am gonna abandon the frequent moblie addiction and try to save my future.

Yeah you are spot on. As a former mechanical designer i concur with the Marionette, or ventriloquist, or even Oz behind the curtain with pyrotechnics analogies. Have all the people around the mechanized unit walk away. Unplug the laptops and all the tethered data lines and leave the unit to stand alone. Now ask it a question. That is what you really have: a mechanized unit resembling human motion while covered in rubber and not much else. Which is cool!! But don't present it as if it's waaaaaaay beyond what has existed for years. And dont miss the undertones of it being of a female likeness (of course it is....in a room full of male investors). What happens when they value their lives over humans and have the intelligence to prevail? I thought robots were built to serve us. Mechanical guilt free slavery. However, once again, because of the inability of robotic voices to variate inflection, tone, facial expression, sarcasm, and all the little nuances we add when we are wanting to be funny are missing. Much like texting, it's taken humans 25 years to learn text language. Take away emojis and other hints of meaning and all hell breaks loose. Sophia is just not there yet. Proof is look at all the comments.....and see how paranoid people are about it because of the manufactured human component.

Sean McGlade They don't have to. We had no clue how trees grew before we used them as shelter, we didn't know why lead was poisonous before we used it in plates, we never knew gunpowder could be used for guns.

Exactly we need to understand our own intelligence first and then move towards A.I we don’t know how A.I will turn out in the future but one thing’s for sure we are definitely not gonna control it

They dont need to implement a human brain, but human reactions human activities and maybe emotions by the time..
We are not talking here about living cells or blood and oxygen, it is all about electronic cells and programs..
So we dont really need to understand the brain we only need to implement how the brain acts, if you understand what I mean ?

You just contradicted yourself here, because the two are the same, really. That being said, a true AI it's not about human _reactions_ , but about human *actions* . In other words, a true AI should be capable of *autonomous* thinking, and this one is not. It doesn't have any individual ideas, for example. It isn't capable of inventing anything, and that's something fundamental to real intelligence. A *perfect* understanding of human (and animal) psychology (not the joke that's called psychology nowadays, but the actual one) is needed in order to replicate this in robots. Also, something everybody misses is that a *perfect* understanding of how a child's mind works is paramount to successfully design a true AI.
