  • I love being able to do all of my own work and I mean everything I can. For a while I have wanted to be able to powder coat but did not know too much about it or how hard the process would be and I am pleasantly surprised with this set up. I went to harbor freight and snagged their central machinery gun and ordered a few things online. After messing around with it and getting it going it is much easier to use than i initially had thought it would be! Tested a color from Eastwood called battle ship grey and came out pretty close to how i imagined.
I am not professional at powder coating but for my first time doing this i have come to the conclusion that anyone can do it!

I’ve been order coating for 15 years. A professional will charge you a fortune and the quality is just not that different. I started with a HF system, was given an Eastwood system, but mostly use the HF. I did add an additional hole in the air tube; just drill in through to existing hole and out the other side. I bought two toaster ovens from a thrift store for $15 dollars each. I don’t have room for a big oven so I built a box out of duct board. It’s two layers thick, and three on the top. I took one toaster oven apart and put the elements inside. It’s large enough to cover a tire rim. It’s not fancy, but it works. There’s a trick; if you want something smooth that’s textured like case iron or aluminum sand it as smooth as you can and then powder coat it Fairly thick. Let it cool completely and then wet sand it as smooth as you like. Heat the part to around 150 degrees and recoat it while warm. Them bake it as per the instructions. Good job! Keep it up!

So few things as i have been researching this. Heating a part to about 100 degrees help. Start with the small crevasses first to keep the Faraday effect down. For curing you wait until the part hits the 450 temp than start a twenty minute or package recommended time.

Problem I have with these inexpensive guns is the wiring cables are way too short.

U need to heat up the part first

    • @Smeedia

What temp would you suggest? And does it help the powder stick to it more?

    • @brentwvillnave1647

@@Smeedia depends on the powder for the temp. but yeah the powder sticks way better and brings out the color more.

Honestly man these systems work ok but there are much better systems in the $500 range that are adjustable and come with a hopper.
These non adjustable systems are really only good for 1 stage applications at best.
Also you should really invest in a temp gun so you know your parts are cured properly as undercured powder is brittle.

It's only for little parts here and there and was a budget buy. So far it's been doing great for what I've been using it for 🙌
