    This made me cry. Back to back Accutane treatments for what turned out to simply be b12 induced acneiform eruptions. The derm just thought it was "normal inflammatory acne." It wasn't. It was a constellation across my forehead, monomorphic, all arriving at once, like a rash. It kept coming back when I stopped accutane. Stopped my multivitamin on a whim and wow, the breakouts stopped. What's ironic is now I have long term issues with a different pattern of irritation-induced papules from my skin barrier being non existent and fragile bc I don't make any freaking oil. 2 years later I got LASIK and turns out I'm not making enough meibum and have dry eye syndrome too. I'm one of the unlucky people who is experiencing long term dryness even years after isotretinoin, despite all the lifestyle hygiene (sleep, diet, exercise, hydration, stress mgmt) being on point. Lipikar AM / Cerave healing ointment PM seems to be the best fake barrier I can muster. Thank you for making this video, though. I wish I had seen it years ago. Hopefully it helps someone else.

    Thanks Dr. Gray, I been doing skin care for a while! I'm 33 yrs old and constantly get mistaken as someone in my mid 20s. I work as an engineer and people constantly mistake me as new and recently graduated, it always fun to tell people I graduated 10 years ago. Sometimes they don't even believe me and I have to show them my ID. Thanks for the video I always click on the notification =].

    Re: B12 - I was taking a dedicated supplement for it due to veganism, and trying to be mindful of the dose, but I could never find anything less than 100mcg (when the RDA is 2-3 for most people and possibly slightly higher for vegans). Eventually I noticed that my iron supplement - also taken for veganism - sneaks in 8mcg of vitamin B12! I was able to save on supplement costs and rely on a more appropriate dosage. Always check a supplement's ingredients, even if it appears to just be a single dedicated nutrient, because sometimes the formula is thoughtfully put together for the expected typical user of it.

    Omg this video was so helpful. I’ve always had clear skin and now in my mid 30s, I’ve been suffering from comedonal acne for a few months now and it’s been frustrating because they’re in clusters of my face and are noticeable. I’ve been taking several vitamins and I looked at the package and saw that I was taking in way too much B12 🤯

    Thank you for this information. Recently I started taking B12 for a couple of months and got acne on my face, chest, back, and arms. I had no idea what was going on. I rarely get pimples on my chest and never on my arms. Thanks to a fellow watcher of your channel I figured out it was the B12. My acne has cleared since stopping the B12. I used Panoxyl like mad during the clearing process

    Indeed it is really a wild wild west out there in the supplement industry so many old and of course new are out fresh on the market really for sale (in just one blink of an eye hundreds of new supplements are born 😅) and that goes without saying unchecked because there are no rules and no-one to check them out so faith is needed and consultation from your doctor or healthcare provider 😊❤. It was truly informative Doctor Andrea happy Monday ❤.

    I had no idea about b vitamins! I was taking pre workout every day (which I now know had b12 in it) before the gym every day and started experiencing cystic acne and I couldn’t fine what was causing it. Looking at that pre workout now I realize I was consuming well over 5g a week of b12. I Went on two cycles of accutane and my dermatologist never asked about any supplements I was taking to look for potential triggers. I’m really glad I saw your video so I can be more cognizant of things I’m consuming that could be acne triggers. Thank you! I love all of your videos. You’ve helped me so much over the past two years while I’ve been on my acne journey.

    THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO! i keep telling my friends at the gym who are breaking out to switch to vegan protein powder and they don't listen. Whey RUINED my skin. i had deep cystic painful pimples ALL OVER MY CHIN when i never used to experience breakouts to such an extreme. By the time i linked it to whey i had already been months taking it, so it has taken almost a fucking year for my skin to clear. Mind you i was drinking whey protein twice a day for 6 months. i am now left with hyperpigmentation and scarring when my skin tone use to be so even.. i also think that my pores have been damaged from the constant breakouts and inflammation at such a rapid pace because now i am breaking out more often, and have developed sensitive skin. It has been a nightmare. I now have the worst skin of my life.

    Yes completely to the b12! I’ve been commenting this in different places for years trying to confirm what I experience when taking the dosage recommended by vegan physicians and it’s exactly like you said, small spots, all at once, not a lot of inflammation but annoying none the less. For me always on either side of my chin. I appreciate the definitive answer. I’ve gone down to taking 1 dose a week rather than daily as recommended.

      Did you get a blood test to know if you still manage to keep high levels of B12 while supplementing only once a week? Sounds like a good solution for the acne but I'm afraid the B12 levels won't go up. My skin is breaking out and at the same time I need to supplement B12 because I'm with very low levels at the moment, so I'm trying to find a solution.

I used to take Supraneuron because it's highly potent than Neurobion, but Bayer (the one who makes Supraneuron) I found out is very anti-ecology. So now I just take my B-vitamins locally produced here, to support as well our local industries. But since it is not as potent as Supraneuron, I take it 2x a day. The brand I like here is called Vitaplex-B, it is very affordably priced.

      It always interests me to look at what's different and 'allowed' in the US vs EU , UK ,MENA etc .

      And that's why I don't touch them. People don't know what the hell is in those pills. My friend took some over the counter B12 and had an allergic reaction and broke out in hives. She had been taking the prescribed B12 from a doctor and had no problem but then decided to switch over the counter. I just don't believe in those things. Someone once said you are just taking expensive pee with those things lol

      You can thank the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1995. Supplements were almost regulated, but supplement corporations lobbied to pass that bill, and continually lobby against regulation. 😮

    They had a dietitian come into our work. She said we are in a iodine deficiency crisis and that we should all eat seaweed. I read in a popular book about the microbiome that only the Japanese have a microbiome that can digest seaweed. Very confused but interested!

      Right? My doctor advised me to take an iodine supplement for severe breast pain. It worked like a charm. But I was also low on iodine too. So maybe folks that use it and don’t need it? Or take too much?

    Hi Dr Gray 🖐 I was wondering if you know what I should do, I took accutane (40 mg twice a day for 6 months if my memory serves me correctly) my acne completely disappeared. I was really happy and hoping I would never have to suffer from acne again after so many reviews about people saying after they took accutane and their acne completely disappeared and never came back. But then recently my acne came back after a few months off accutane. Is this normal and something you have experienced yourself? I feel super bummed out about it, i suffer from pretty bad acne and my dermatologist was positive i woulnt get acne again after accutne yet here i am writing this in disappointment with acne back in my life. 😢
    Thanks

    I went to a dermatologist because I was having a really bad breakout with cystic acne and they put me on a new routine which included taking vit b combination supplements 3 times a day. My skin is better these days but I still have pimples every now and then. What is the explanation?

  • @db-gb5xi
    @db-gb5xi Před 8 měsíci +30

    Yes, supplements are tricky. My mom has been told to take zinc. When I looked it up, it said the RDA for women is 8 mg (up to 12 when pregnant). Most of the supplements have 22 mg per tablet and some suggest taking two a day so you do have to pay attention to what you're buying/taking. Iron supplements can cause constipation so you have to check that the supplement you're taking doesn't cause constipation and that could be as simple as a formula having vit c in it.

    • @al70127
      @al70127 Před 8 měsíci +20

      you have to also consider how much of that 22mg is bioavailable. depends on the form of zinc and interatction with other nutrients like copper, iron, calcium, and magnesium.

    I had to take one form of B12 (methylcobalamin) as a medication for a while and I developed the worst, most painful hives all over my body that lasted for a few months. It was only much later did I link it to the high dosage of B12 intake. Thank you Dr Dray for another informative video!

    I've experienced getting acne from all of these except the last one, steroids because I didn't take any, and now make sure to limit my consumption of them. As for vitamins, stick to the kids versions because they usually don't go over 100% of the recommended daily dosage. I don't need 1000% of the daily dosage of anything.
