I really appreciate people like Dr. Dray. They are board certified professionals but they give information online FOR FREE.
I remember when I was younger, I started having my skincare routine at the age of 14 but most of those routines were wrong. Lol I also only started using sunscreen when I was at the age of 23 after reading a magazine article about it.
I feel happy for younger generations nowadays because they have this kind of available informations online coming from professionals themselves like Dr. Dray ❤️

@@DrDrayzdaywhat about putting Foundation or a tinted sarim over your sunscreen once the sunscreen is fully dry? I see many times were you say it's fine to put sunscreen powder over any other sunscreen and since I have dry skin I don't want to use the powder.
Thank you! I have been vindicated. I was recently bothered by someone telling me I can't put moisturizer on before Tret after I mentioned that I did that to help with some irritation. This works for me and I've seen an improvement in my skin overall.😊
I do this too for my niacinamide, moisturiser first helps with my sensitivity!

Another timely video. I was recently prescribed Winlevi. I also use a couple of serums as well as Tretinoin. I've been so confused as to how to use them all together. Thanks for explaining all of this. Now I can combine everything with confidence!
I thought I'd share my own experience: I've been on Winlevi, Tret, and a topical antibiotic for my hormonal, cystic acne for about a year. I like to use my Winlevi in the mornings and my tret/antibiotic at night. Any lightweight toners/serums I use before them, and any heavy moisturizer/sunscreen I use after them. If you have additional questions about layering, I recommend talking to your prescriber about how best to incorporate your new prescriptions into your current routine

Dr Dray, thank you for this video! I was actually wondering this myself the past few days. After watching your video on a few antioxidants and Cassandra, I added the Resveritrol with Ferulic acid serum twice a day (AM underneath SPF 70 sunscreen and PM underneath Tretinoin and then an occlusive moisturizer).
Please report back how you like it. I’ve thought of trying it since I can’t tolerate vitamin C

There’s products that use magnesium ascorbyl phosphate and aminopropyl ascorbyl phosphate as vit c alternatives. I use the skin ceuticals vitamin c that uses AAP cuz it’s super cheap and it works well without irritating my skin but has fragrance in it lord knows why….

Morning: Vitamin C serum, CeraVe Hyaluronic lotion, moisturizer cream(Olay, Strivectin, Cerave or Eucerin), Australian Gold Tinted Sunscreen SPF 50 if I'm working out or, if I putting on make-up, LaRoche-Posay,
Evening: Retin-A .05% cream (with moisturizer on eyes first), then CeraVe or Eucerin moisturizer cream. (I rotate.)
Seems to work great on my 72-year-old face!!!

OMG! The itching and burning! I experienced perioral dermatitis after 3 weeks of retinol use. I was also layering products. Get a prescription for metronidazole. After applying to my face for just a few days my rash is almost gone. I'm thrilled with the results.
Dr.Dray can you also make a video of you trying popular Korean skincare and your opinions on them. I think there’s a lot of people that are reviewing and pushing K-Beauty for the past 2 years and I can rarely find people on CZcams that actually give a genuine opinion on them. Also, it would be fun to watch you talking about it
She's done a lot of videos on Korean products, just do a search. She also includes a lot of Korean products in her regular review videos, faves and fails, etc. She's found a lot of great Korean sunscreens. I've tried a few and they are all I use now.
I do tretinoin, serum, cream. I was wondering if acids were better to use together. I thought you'd said before that a salicylic acid cleanser could be good to use before vitamin c. So that's what I do in the a.m.

Hi Dr. Dray, Thanks for this video. In my case, I'm taking Isotretinoin 20 mg per day. I still have some acne since I started only 2 weeks ago. I'm using Cerave PM Facial Moisturizer first then once applied, my next layer is Cicaplast B5 of Laroche Posay. I hope I'm layering it correctly.

Thank you Dr Dray, you must have read my mind! I use Agency Tretinoin and Dark Spot Formula but have to skip tretinoin some days due to irritation. I would like to work in peptides and niacinamide (I have those from the Ordinary) but don't know what to use and when.

This came at the perfect time for me!!
I started Tretinoin gel 0.025% almost 2 months ago now. I started it once a week then twice a week and now I’m attempting to move up to every other day. I just started experiencing some breakouts around my chin, jaw and an odd one on my nose or something. I haven’t had any redness and only minor peeling.
However I have had the tightness and I do struggle to find a routine that works. I am using SPF and hats/sunglasses though thanks to you!

Hello. Great video. You mention a sandwich technique at the end. Can I use that technique to moisurise before and after Azelaic Acid? I'm pregnant and have rosacea but initially finding it drying. Would like to carry on using by applying moisturiser both before and after but want to check that won't stop the product absorbing? Would Cerave be okay for that?

In Dr Dray's video, how to layer sunscreen, she discusses makeup and sunscreen saying to apply your sunscreen and then your makeup. There are other derms who have videos on their morning routines and do just that.

What products should you avoid putting on your eyelids? It seems like when I put a moisturizer with vitamin C in my eyelids it irritates them

What happens when you put makeup over sunscreen ? Does that disrupt it too ? I’ve been particularly worried about all the ‘natural’ makeup which seems oil /coconut oil based. To me it seems that would definitely break down sunscreen.
Hi Dr. Dray. I really enjoyed this video - it helped me relax! It is so easy to become anxious about if you are doing something right in a skincare regime that you put so much time and money into! I did go and watch the other two videos of yours that you recommended. I have a question from the “layering skincare” video from two years ago. You mention that if you have too many products, you can dilute your actives/results. I felt what was best for me was to identify the actives I wanted and to use 1 ingredient serums to really curate my skincare regime for me. It does result in a lot of serums in my daytime and nighttime regime. I definitely don’t have the time to let each layer dry as you suggest, but am I throwing away my efforts because I use so many? (For example, mornings I use a NIOD antioxidant mist, urea toner, NIOD eye serum, Ordinary Argiriline, Timeless 20% vitamin C, Timeless CoQ10, Naturium Azelaic Acid, Ordinary Lactic Acid, Cocokind Ceremide serum, Derma-E moisturizer and Sunscreen) I picked each one for a reason for my skin, but are they diluting each other out? Now I am stressed again….lol
Peptides don’t play well with strong acids… You’re not harming yourself, but rendering them ineffective. Also, since you already apply vitamin C, you needn’t apply *another* anti-oxidant. (Or vice versa). The vitamin C probably isn’t going to penetrate your skin anyway, so it might just as well function as an anti-oxidant.
Why not safe yourself a pretty penny and purchase a large jar of Cerave + perhaps their Urea cream (if needed, don’t quite understand why you use urea) in lieu of several product you currently use?
@@Burp964 Thanks for the response - but can I ask who you are? Hard to take your response as an authority as I am utilizing information from multiple aestheticians, and was never told that my Vitamin C isn’t going to penetrate. I wanted Dr. Dray’s take as a dermatologist.
@@liresi8 Firstly, in youtube it’s common for people to respond to messages, not just the poster of the video. Given that she’s a practising clinician, it’s a miracle that she finds the time to vlog as frequently as she does, but the chances of her actually addressing one of those many posts are slim.
Secondly, I’m actually a university hospital staff member (a researcher, not a practitioner), and this subject is somewhat of a hobby of mine because I have a close friend who works as a board certified cosmetic doctor. I sometimes counsel him on the underlying biology/biochemistry since that’s more *my* field. But you needn’t take my word for it: @drdrayzday has a plethora of videos on vitamin C. But to summarise: the only vitamin C serum that was shown to work, is Skinceuticals C E Ferulic. Other forms of vitamin C or other formulations *may* work to some extent, but probably not. This information is quite readily available on PubMed as well.
An aesthetician can make any claim they please, because they’re not bound by the same restrictions as us scientists 🙂

The Ordinary Lactic Acid should not be used with Vit C. They tell you that. Lactic Acid is best used at night. You also shouldn't use Argireline with Vit C.
@@paulinesvisuals thank you. I just added the lactic acid in, but didn’t check the contraindications. I realized I did the same with Argireline, now that I look! I just went off Botox and have been adding that twice a day. Now I guess I will only use at night.
