This Placido Domingo’s show - Virtuosos. He invited Dimash to sing with him and be a judge in the competition for young musicians.
lol Dimash was invited by Domingo to be a judge on the panel of the show. It is for children training and competing in classical music(piano, violin, oboe etc). The others were the other judges. This was a special performance. There is a video of when Dimash arrived and met Domingo, Domingo was excited to meet him and said we will sing a duet. You will sing tenor and I will sing baritone. They had one day of practice together and it was beautiful ❤

He shared that at the age of 5, he had a VHS of a concert by Maestro Domingo and he dreamed of meeting and working with him from that time. Hungary. The annual Virtuosa Competition. Dimash was on the panel for the first time.
Dimash was invited to be a guest judge alongside the panel of people you see in this concert hall. The Virtuosos international talent show is shown on Hungarian tv every year to showcase brilliant upcoming young classical musicians (piano, violin, cello, harp, etc.). Rumor has it that Placido wishes to ask Dimash to be a permanent judge but I doubt Dimash has the time to be permanent. I would imagine he would like to guest from time to time since he loves to promote children in the music world. Dimash is currently taking his "Stranger" World concert tour around the globe but he will be holding two concerts in Prague and Dusseldorf which are relatively near Budapest in November 2024. He might be able to make it to their recording session in Dec. if he doesn't have another concert or other guest performances scheduled for December. I would love to see Dimash sing with Placido again. What a treat that would be!
As a stark contrast to Opera, why don't you guys watch Dimash's two latest MVs of new songs, "When I've Got You" and "Smoke". And then watch his guest performances of "Stranger", "Fly Away" and "Ave Maria" from the New Wave International Competition for Young Pop Singers where he was a judge and premiered these three new original songs. All are on Dimash's CZcams channel. And yes, the Ave Maria is a new composition written especially for Dimash's voice.

Plus Dimash learned to sing the song the day before. This was a TV competition for virtuosi children, the people in the tiny audience were musicians and singers who were judges for the children. But at age 5, Dimash hoped to one day sing with Domingo. Domingo, Jr. was one of those judges. Hope you two do some more Dimash reactions together. The "Ave Maria" is unforgettable, and I'm not fond of the original song.

Thank you for reacting to another of our favourite Dimash duets. This was the Virtuoso competition for young virtuosos in Europe and those people in the cutaways were judges. Dimash and Maestro Domingo were also judges. This performance was at the request of Placido Domingo who on meeting Dimash said he wanted to sing with him, and this is the result. Thanks again!

I know this was a "bucket list" highlight for DIMASH to sing with the great Maestro Domingo. It's sad DIMASH never got to sing with Maestros Pavarotti & Carreras. But one of the "Three Tenors" is still such a treasure. 😊
My recommendation next would be the song "Know" from his New Wave concert in which he wears a white suit. The reason is because it's completely different musically from this performance.

2. As someone else has suggested - go straight to When I’ve Got You official video, Be With Me, or Dudaraz, for a complete contrast!

Many bel canto teachers have verified that Dimash brings a cross interpretation between rigid classical singing (which must follow norms and exactly as the author of the piece wrote, from the notes and durations, the portamentos, the expressiveness... Everything) and much more popular flexibility. For purists, let's remember that Dimash had the dream of singing with Plácido Domingos since he was a child and it was the Maestro himself, Don Domingos, who suggested the duet (he knew that even with classical training, Dimash would sing as a cross between classical and pop )! Dimash only had one day to remember the work and make the recording, as this moment is part of the competition (like a talent show) for children with musical talent: The “Virtuosos”! Dimash, as well as Placido Domingos, were part of the Jury, accompanied by Erika Miklósa (opera singer), Adrás Keller (violinist, conductor and musical director of the Budapest Concert), Hauser (cellist), Plácido Domingos Jr. (singer and composer), Pablo Sanz Villegas (classical guitarist), Gabriela Rachid (cultural director) and Harvey Goldsmith (music promoter)! The show was in Budapest (Hungary) from January 16th to 26th this year, 2024!
Note that Dimash elected to sing in neo-classical style rather than pure opera style. With four years of pure classical (lyrical) training, he is perfectly capable and has in several past early performances sung purely operatic style (which also means heavy vibrato on every note which is a bit jarring to sensitive ears and causes people to dislike most opera singers voices). Dimash has shown he likes the freedom of neo-classical as it is much more beautiful to hear and more emotional as it gives him the license to use voice dynamics of changing the sounds to evoke emotions more freely. Purists like to look down their noses at Dimash and call neo-classical singing "pop" because he won't sing "exactly" the way the composer dictates the song to be sung without deviation. Too bad. Dimash is making classical singing style much more popular than the "pure" opera singers that are currently an endangered species today. I've heard this duet by other "real" opera singers and they pale in comparison to Dimash's version of this duet with Placido Domingo. Apparently Placido thinks so too since this duet was released as a single a few weeks ago by the Virtuosos team and is available worldwide on all streaming platforms now (Spotify, Apple, Amazon, etc.).

Dimash, 29, had the difficult tenor part. Placido had sung it countless times, but asked Dimash to sing it. I think he wanted to push Dimash into the spotlight. A couple reactors, vocal coaches, detected wavering in Placido’s 83 year old voice and said it was good that Placido was singing the baritone part which is lower and shorter. Thanks for the reaction. I enjoyed your camaraderie.
Dimash was offered a place in the Astana Opera House and, i suppose i shouldn't say it, but I'm so glad he didn't accept it. Just think what we would be missing if he had accepted!
The people you asked about are the other judges of the Virtuoso competition for young classical musicians. It is Placido's show & he invited Dimash to be a guest judge on the show. One of the male judges is Hauser, a world reknowned cellist & another is Placido's son.

Dimash was asked to participate as a judge in the competition for young classical musicians... and then... he gave us dear ones this wonderful jewel.
Maestro Domingo invited Dimash to sing the duet with him the day before. Dimash only had a short night to learn this song in French... and besides, Dimash had a cold with a cough. (You notice it more clearly in the second song at the end of the concert.)
Dimash would never act recklessly towards his duet partners. With good manners and respect, he would never drown out Maestro Domingo (then still 82) with his voice. He even adapts to Maestro Domingo's vocal color.

Yes, musical taste changes as we age. When I was young I hated the sound of a "trained voice". Well, maybe I'd only heard poorly trained voices, who knows. Now I really like this type of singing. They were all famous fellow judges. Notice 2 seats were empty as Dimash and Domingo were performing.
This duet was an excellent way to draw views and exposure to the young performers for this Virtuoso competition in Budapest Hungary. I don't remember all the names as this was last Christmas but one was Placido's son and another was Stjepan Hauser who is a very famous Cellist from Croatia and half of 2Cellos.
He has recently done a collaboration with Lara Fabian and as 2Cellos did many famous covers including my favorite performance of "Thunderstruck" /Live in Croatia.
A beautiful performance by these 2 vocalists. My favorite duet was "Ulisse" where Dimash teams up with Aida Garifullina. Passione is another amazing performance with an Opera vibe.
