    These are actually very good engines!! Just keep them clean and serviced and they will last a long time!!!

      The metal seems cheap. I'm seeing some rust and I've only used it in freshwater. I do believe salt water would kill this engine pretty fast

      I have the same engine. I also removed all the markings on it. It looks great solid black! They are just stickers you can peel off. Engine pushes my 12 ft. aluminum boat real nice.

    The first 10 hours 25:1 fuel oil mixture? A lot of hours with a lot of smoke.

    I just received mine today I plan on breaking it in tomorrow, I bought Lucas marine grease and a grease gun and filled the grease plugs full of grease and popped off the propeller and greased the shaft all I have to do now is add the gear oil and run it..

      I have been meaning to post an updated video. I used it for two summers now. Runs pretty good, but the rubber components are absolute trash, falling apart and staining skin. I am also seeing some minor rust issues. I would not trust running this item in saltwater. I hope you have a good experience!

    I have a 6hp one. Did you do the rest of the break-in in the lake? I tried to follow the instruction of breaking in slowly at home, however, when 50% throttle was applied, all the water gushed out of the trash can. I ended up doing an hour of 25% throttle, then took it out to the lake to do the rest. But, it's brutal to run 50% throttle for 2 hours followed up by 80% throttle for 3 hours! I want to fish not running around the lake in the loud engine. Am I breaking-in my hearing or the motor???

    • @mikeford7870
      @mikeford7870  Před rokem +1

      I think the main point is to not run it wide open brand new. Some people do that anyway have had no issues, at least right away.

    I wonder if you noticed the transom clamp is not manufactured at 90 degrees. I do not understand this. Any ideas? What happened to the Hangkai logos on the engine cover?

    • @mikeford7870
      @mikeford7870  Před 5 měsíci

      I cannot say why the transom clamp was designed that way. However, I can say that it does not pose a problem. I removed the decals (easily removable stickers) in order to help deter theft of this highly sought after gem of marine power.

    Can you tell me what fuel plug did you use for the external tank. I can't seem to find one that fits correctly to the motor. I've tried so many and they don't snap in place properly. Would love your feedback. I have the 6hp 2 stroke

    I have no problems with ethanol, so I think that you can use it to

    • @mikeford7870
      @mikeford7870  Před 2 lety +1

      Glad it is working out for you! Ethanol attracts water, which can cause problems. So either using all the fuel quickly or stabilizing the fuel with an additive to deal with the moisture is recommended when using ethanol. I prefer just using the premium gas, which around me does not contain ethanol. (a product like this czcams.com/video/cHNe9Aok6MQ/video.html )

      @THe9-3MAnIaC Před 2 lety

      @@mikeford7870 I know that ethanol can attract water, but a Swedish CZcamsr have done a test about that, he let the ethanol sit in the tank for a couple of months and when he tested the fuel, no water was in there

    My manual (4 stroke 8) said it does need to be in gear for breakin period does the 2 stroke not?

    • @mikeford7870
      @mikeford7870  Před rokem +1

      I only ran it for a short time like this out of gear. The rest of the break-in period was done while using it in gear. I have had the rubber handles degrade quickly. Otherwise, it still runs great!

    • @mikeford7870
      @mikeford7870  Před 8 měsíci

      I have an updated video that shows the rubber disintegrating. The engine still runs good. I see some rust and have only run it in freshwater. Salt water would probably kill this engine fast

    • @mikeford7870

      Avoid saltwater and only use gasoline that does not have ethanol, usually premium blends do not.
