Number 1 - Use 25 to one during breakin. Number 2 make sure cooling good.. non ethanol best. You can buy 3 of these for price of 15 hp name brand. Mercury most advanced outboards are all made in China. They don,t need much choking and none when warm.. Can be lifted by 82 yr old. Light. like mine too.
Bought an 18-hp hangkai for my 10ft aluminum jon boat. Strengthened my transom, and thing flies. It's been 1 year, so far, no issues. Starts every time.
Hi. I bought same outboard but 15hp 2 years ago. Its been great. Its basically a copy of the Yamaha 2strokes made with pretty good quality parts. 1 thing 2check is the thermostat. They don't always fit them. Mine didn't have 1 so I fitted 1. Just means the engine won't ever be running at optimum temp 55⁰c
In all honesty im not sure? All outboards generally have anti corrosion anodes i have had mine 2 years, and have no corrosion anywhere but im in fresh water only.
12hp 2 stroke doesn’t seems to be getting full power at full throttle . Tell me about the air/gas mixture setting. Where is the sweet spot? Seems like it runs better with the hood off
Probably around 20 hours i was down most of the summer last year and didnt get out on the water much, im looking forward to this year and getting up more content! Thanks for the comment!!
@@timhuggins9366 do u run the residual fuel out of the carb at the end of a trip.. the ethanol is corrosive. also using marine fuel stabilizer can help. question, can you get replacement parts for these motors?
Yeah generally i run it out of fuel especially before i store it for the winter. From what ive been told Tohastu 9.8 is the same motor and parts will interchange. Ive never had to replace anything yet so im not 100% but thats what people are saying??
i imagine the motor should be fine it is a Yamaha Clone and i’ve had severalYamaha motors over the years bothOutboards and Motorcycles /ATV i’ve always had good luck with them of course Japan is usually better thanChina in quality and Materials i’ve noticed these Hang Kai’s are not as quiet as a Yamaha or the Grey Ghosts as we call them on Law Enforcement boats ! one of my best freinds and i were riding on a guys boat that took a group of us to a Waterfront restaraunt and that boat Owner was drinking pretty hard so he was loud and wobbly on his feet the LocalMarine Police watched this with his Binoculars sort of hidden behind some docked boats and didn’t get more than a quater mile when the Ridgid came up behind us to blip his Siren and turn on his lights my best freind was talking with his Lady and almost crapped his pants because he didn’t see the boat coming up behind us it turned out the guy had a bulb out and got a warning which he was more than lucky to get because he stunk like a Barrel of Bourbon IMO and was running too fast in a NoWake Zone plus under severe Influence of Alchohol we were in a quiet Tributary of the Chesapeake Bay and this guy was another member at our Marina who heard where a group,of us were Anchoring for the Weekend

Mercury is made in Japan by Tohatsu
Not the mid range models up to 60 hp.

I’m almost decided on the 18hp for my 16ft Lowe. I’m wondering if the shop will work on it if needed and obtaining parts.
Depends on the shop honestly. Some will some wont just give em a call and see if its something they will work on. Thanks for the comment!!!
Hey, I’m curious as to what you’re seeing speed wise with this motor and what boat you have it on?
Ive got a 16 lowe jon top speed been right aroumd 15-18 mph depending on what i have with me in the boat.
Thanks a ton do you know the weight of the engine?
Yeah its around 70-80 pounds i believe. Thanks for the comment!!
Will this motor handle saltwater
Does the leg have an anode installed to prevent corrosion?
In all honesty im not sure? All outboards generally have anti corrosion anodes i have had mine 2 years, and have no corrosion anywhere but im in fresh water only.
From what I can find this is a direct copy of a Mercury 169cc two stroke
12hp 2 stroke doesn’t seems to be getting full power at full throttle . Tell me about the air/gas mixture setting. Where is the sweet spot? Seems like it runs better with the hood off
Well it would definitely get more air with the hood off but if that's the case you could always cut some vents in it lol
How loud is it
Is that a short shaft? I have a 12 ft aluminum im thinking of putting this on.
Its between a short, and a long it measures 17 inch
how many hours approx do u have on it total?
Probably around 20 hours i was down most of the summer last year and didnt get out on the water much, im looking forward to this year and getting up more content! Thanks for the comment!!

if you can get 4 good years out of the motor it was a bargain. plz keep us updated.

How's it doing now, any issues
Still purrin along. Shes all put away for the winter. Springtime i will do another video!

Any idea of top speed?
15-18 mph on a 16ft lowe jon. Its a 2021 model
Take out on the water, open it up.
Wow, you need to go fishing more young man! lol
I just hate two strokers because they stink so bad.
Lol i hear that man, for the money 1200 for a brand new motor i will deal with it i reckon. Lol thanks for the comment!!!
