I ride a 2008 rebel and just love it. It's my first bike so I have nothing to compare it to but I find it to be quite peppy for its little size. It's light and nimble. Perfect beginner bike.
I bought a first year Rebel 250 brand new in 1985. I started riding on the street in 1975, and had a 1979 Yamaha XS Eleven Special when I bought the Rebel. It was cheap ($1299) and I just loved the way it looked. I eventually sold it. Then I wound up buying and selling 2 more used Rebel 250s. Finally, in 2016, when I saw what Honda replaced the Rebel with in 2017, I was so disgusted by it that I bought one of the last Rebel 250s brand new. This one is dark red. It is now 7 years old, and has just under 1000 miles on it. It is living room kept and absolutely brand new. This one I am keeping. I am now 64 and have some medical issues. I plan on riding it when I become unable to ride my bigger bikes anymore. The Rebel 250 is quite capable of going anywhere. I did an Iron Butt SS1000 on one, on the highway at full throttle, 75-80 mph most of the way. I made it. The Rebel 250s engine dates back to the '70s, and is overbuilt. These days everything is designed by a computer, and made just strong enough. Back then they overbuilt things to make sure they would hold up. People have put over 100K miles on Rebel 250s with no engine work.
I saved one of these from the ravages of time once owned by a lady down the street from me. It had been sitting for years with only 300 miles on it. Did the basic fuel, carb, battery and refreshing of oils it started right up. She was a beautiful little cruiser. Sold it soon their after for a nice profit. The new owner called me up a month later crying because he had left it idling for a loooong time while he sat inside watching football and seized, smoked the engine.😮!! He had no concept of AIR COOLING and was pissed I did not tell him 😳… really !
I'm sure I sold 125-150+ new Rebel 250's to both training facilities and to the public when I sold at Al Lamb's Dallas Honda. God knows how many used 250 and 450's I sold in the 2000's. To kill a Rebel you literally had to try and kill it or be dumb as hell. Awesome bullet proof bikes. 👍
What a sweet bike for someone! The classic looks and honda quality is timeless.

You would be surprised how many people who ride air cooled bikes have no idea how important it is to keep them moving.
Gorgeous Bike! Perfect for a beginner, to learn how to ride on the street.
