  • In this video, I teach you everything you need to know when riding a motorcycle for the first time. Hold the clutch in, kick 1 down to go into 1st gear then let go of the clutch slowly while you give it some gas. Watch the whole video for a more in depth tutorial. If I missed anything or any of you need help, leave a comment down below and I will get back to you. Leave a like if I helped you at all from this video or if you just enjoyed :) Please subscribe to the channel for daily videos. I love everyone who took the time to watch.

    Thank you brother.
    I've never driven a bike in the past but this year I'm going to take the plunge.
    Your video made it look real easy to shift.
    I thought shifting was really a difficult thing to do.
    Thanks again.

    I've been watching your lessons. I bought a 2005 honda rebel 250 and didn't know how to ride. the seller said it was super easy and she said to take it for a test ride. I crashed right into and under her 2020 jeep liberty! ssssssooooo, since she held my cash while I test-drove it into her jeep, I was the new owner by default!! LESSON LEARNED! Ever since I have been watching your lessons. Thank you for making my learning a better experience! ! I am now a lady rider from the bay area, California! Dreams do come true! thanks for your part in that!

    An '01 was my first bike and I can say it's a perfect first ride. Light with just enough power for the highway. Add in Honda reliability and you can't go wrong. Still have mine because it's a sentimental favorite.

    I'm in the same boat here in Ireland, Waiting for my learner permit to come, then I have do do something like 18 hrs training before I can even get insurance. Not allowed on the road until I get the certificate of competition.
    In the beginning I wanted a maxi scooter like Xmax or Forza 400 cc max will do me nicely, not into power, speed and acceleration, I just want to experience the road on 2 wheels.
    I am going for the full A license which means training on a manual bike because if I pass the test on an Auto I have to pass another test before I can ride a manual and I didn't want to have to do this if I decide to end up on a manual but in all honesty I think I'd prefer the twist and go experience of a maxi scooter. You get some storage space too.
    The A license means I can only ride a minimum of 599 cc and 50 Kw for the test which sounds scary but the training instructor will not give me such a bike to begin with.

    Oh my God! This guy shouldn’t be teaching anyone! “If you need more balance, you can dangle your legs”. Jesus, that’s bad advice. Always keep your feet on the pegs! You’ll have way more control! Dangling your legs makes the bike less stable and makes you look like the noob that you are. That’s the number one giveaway of a rider that doesn’t know what they’re doing. You talk as if you’ve got everything mastered. People that think they know it all stop learning. Sorry I’m being harsh, but I think some humbling would do you good. You’ve got a LOT to learn.

      @@JtKellerman When you dangle, you have far less control of the bike. But it looks to me that in people’s inexperienced minds, they think it gives them more stability (especially when doing low speed maneuvers). Ride smart and force yourself to never take your feet off the pegs. Make it a challenge. It’ll make a better rider out of you. Moto Jitsu actually made a video where he taped his feet to his pegs, emphasizing this point.

    You should not stop in third or fourth gear; it's a very bad habit that is not safe. It's better not to let it become a reflex. You usually only want to skip the first gear when you stop.
    Using your engine brake is very important when you ride. So, to stop or slow down for a corner, you should downshift. Let go of the clutch and let the engine slow down for you. If it's not enough, you can help it with your brakes.
    Also, you want to brake and then engage the clutch at the last moment to let the bike slow down with the help of the engine's brake.
    When you engage your clutch or when you are in neutral, you're basically on a 400-pound bicycle. Your brakes don't like that, and it reduces your braking distance.

    I've noticed that bikes with larger engines can move off on the clutch alone without the need for gas. Is this the case with the Honda Rebel 500?

    Yo so when you turn off the bike to park it,.. Do you turn it off while in neutral? And does it have to be in neutral to start up?

    • @JtKellerman
      @JtKellerman  Před 2 lety

      I usually shut it off in neutral and no it doesn’t have to be in neutral to start it up. Just need to have the kickstand up and pull in the clutch while starting it in gear

    Please any and all comments will help. But as I am even hearing in the video between gears the bike sounds to have a rattling sound to the engine until it is shifted to the next higher gear. Now my question is does that rough rattling sound something normal? I ask because when I am learning and taking off at a very slow and low speed the bike feels very smooth for a little while but then it starts sounding and feeling like what I'm hearing in the video kind of rough and rattly

      If the bike is screaming and your rpm’s are high than you’re prob in too low of a gear and would want to go up a gear.

    When starting this model..where do u have the choke set at? Halfway? Do u leave the choke there or back it off after its warmed up

    • @JtKellerman

      Choke off. I rarely ever had to use the choke to start this bike

      If you need to use the choke, you just wanna use it to warm the bike up

    Another question I have is.. how in the heck do you know which gear you are in? When going up in gears are you only able to shift up one gear at a time or are you actually able to go up accidentally twice going from first gear to like 3rd?

    • @JtKellerman
      @JtKellerman  Před rokem +2

      You can only go up or down 1 gear at a time

      I did:) I'm new to riding, my worse mistake is twisting the throttle when I shouldn't, and the bike takes off. Any suggestions? You have a way of taking something so easy to do and making it look so easy to do. Never seen it look so easy before:)
