Norilska - An Unreal Engine 5 Cinematic

Norilska is set in a desolate and dystopian city, recently struck by a nuclear disaster. What once was a city rich with life and vibrant buildings is now left to be engulfed by the aftermath of the disaster. A driver sighted on the outskirts of the city is headed into the thick cloud which surrounds the city centre, despite warnings over the radio, he chooses to ignore them and continue his mission to reach the other side of the city.

That's not a fiction, Norilsk is a real city in far north in Siberia, extremely cold and harsh, but it's my homeland and I wholeheartedly love it! Thank you a lot, the vibe the video gives is very close to reality. Color me happy! Glad to see familiar streets and buildings, basically one step away from the place I lived at.

Yep all lumen! Was during the early access stages so I had lots of issues to get around it. Especially how there was barely any documentation on it… but thank you so much! Glad you like it

Thanks Abdul, very kind of you ! I hadnt used Unreal too much before this, just 1 very small project I had to do for university. I prepared for this project by spending a couple weeks before starting just collecting tutorials/resources I needed for it. (However, this was when UE5 was in early access - so there wasnt much at all!)

Super cinematic bravo :) Mai's just a little cinematic rule about the car if on the 1st shot you make it come from left to right it must always come from left to right. Otherwise we don't understand in which direction it's going and to the eye it will look weird

From idea to final in around 3 months. I didn't have so much experience in Unreal before, however I had a few years experience in creating my own assets which really helps.

thank you so much! I used a flip book sequence for the smoke, and then used the vdb to fill in missing frames and make it smoother. Worked really nicely.
The snow on top is just composited on top, little trick. That’s the only thing that was composited on top though!

Thanks! It was kind of both mixed in together. It was all done in Unreal but just with video cards. I scaled and moved these video cards so it looks like it's not just static :)
