How To Deep Fry A Turkey

- If you’ve ever wondered how to deep fry a turkey without setting your house on fire, you are in luck! On today’s video, we’re heating up the deep fryer and frying up a turkey that will blow your mind. The secret to fried turkey is making sure that you thaw your bird well in advance because any ice left on the bird will have you starring in one of those fried turkey fails video mashups. After our bird is completely thawed, we’re mixing up our best-selling Turkey Brine to pack in the moisture. No one likes dry turkey and when you’re frying one, brining your bird is a crucial part of the prep process. After your turkey soaks for at least 12 hours, gently pat it dry, but don’t rinse off the brine! Once it’s dry, we’ll use Dirty Bird rub, making sure to get in all the nooks and crannies so we can pack in-freakin’-credible flavor into this turkey. Meanwhile, heat the oil in your deep fryer 350°F and allow your turkey a few minutes to sweat and soak in the rub. Once your oil is ready, it’s time to place turkey in fryer basket and lower it in. The turkey will need to fry for 3 to 5 minutes per pound OR until internal temperature is 165°F. This is where your meat thermometer will be crucial because you don’t want to over-fry your turkey, but you want it to be done. Once the bird reaches temperature, remove it from the oil, then let it rest for about 10 minutes. For the perfect finishing touch, we’re pouring BBQ Glaze all over this bird, spreading it all over the turkey, and then digging in!

If it's truly your first time.... you should put it in water in the pot to measure how much oil you would need. Mark the place where the water is at and thats the height of the oil too
Truly was the first time, thanks for the tip 👊🏼💥
At least they thought to turn off the flame so if the oil did overflow it wouldn't ignite. Granted hot oil flowing around the patio is not a great situation either but better than it being on fire.
Terrible idea. Oil levels raise when hot water doesn’t do that. Also only cover it with oil til right under the butt. The legs skin/meat will shrink anyways. I almost never submerge a bird. I cook 20 plus lb birds for the main meal and usually like 3-4 for friends/fam.
@@idowrk8682 True the oil increases when heated but it’s not a horrible idea. This prevent new folks from filling the pot all the way up.
Somebody has been slimming down. Looking good Kosmos.
Turkey too.
Nailed it!
Appreciate you 👊🏼💥
Deep fried turkey is always awesome. You did good. Happy Holidays brother.
Appreciate you 👊🏼💥 Happy Holidays!
Kosmo and crew you guys are awesome. Everyone who deep fries a turkey does it differently. There's no 100% right way or 100% wrong way....well instead of burning down the house, that's definitely wrong way,but as far as taste goes to each their own. Have a great and safe turkey day!!!
Appreciate you 👊🏼💥
Yes there is a perfect way, I have been doing it for over 30 years. I am the best turkey fryer in the world. Guaranteed!
@@strictlyquality sounds great,do you enter any competitions? Personally I like smoke cajun style turkey, had a couple of different flavored turkeys fried, even had the opportunity to taste a pit smoked in the ground. Naturally turkey is a bland bird,it definitely needs help,to each their own on flavors, happy and safe turkey day!!!
@@robertgoodwin777 Robert, no sir I don't do comps, I sell to a lot of comp cookers, my wife and I do the business ourselves and we are always busy, we had an Celebrity Investor but in the end he did us very wrong. We have some excellent products to offer anyone which is why I offered to partner with Kosmo. Yes sir I definitely understand everyone loves their own flavor and I perfected the Cajun Flavor mild and spicy, plus I perfected the Garlic Butter Flavor, those flavors everyone at your dinner table would love, I could create other flavors but why, not many would sell, but if you want the famous Cajun Fried Turkey, I can do that even better than Popeyes. Robert, you and your family have a very nice evening and a blessed Thanksgiving. Thanks for the post.
Great job Bud! Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
Appreciate you, Happy Thanksgiving 👊🏼💥
Good job Kosmo. Fried probably a hundred of 'em. Couple things...I've never ever heard of anyone having to shank the turkey. I fry legs down because the dark meat needs a higher finishing temp and I fry no higher than 325 but truthfully probably average around 310-315 degrees. 5-5 1/2 minutes a pound. Turkey will be as golden as a Norman Rockwell Thanksgiving painting. Inject it. Tony's Creole Butter is very popular.
But in the words of Kosmo...that's what I do, but you do you. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
Appreciate you, Happy Thanksgiving 👊🏼💥
I’m going to try it again, you made it sound doable. Last time I did this I stuck the thermometer in the turkey instead of the oil and keep turning temp up until everything including the bird turned black!
👊🏼💥
Looks damn good for your first try.
Appreciate you 👊🏼💥
The "Welcome to Jackass" comment made me spit my drink out😂 You guys have a great Thanksgiving
😂 Happy Thanksgiving!
Yahhhh gotta inject that bad boy! Tony's butter mmmmmmmm
Seen this comment a lot, might have to try it 👊🏼💥
I’ve been doing it for years but I tried my other pot big ol sea food boil pot and I like using a bigger pot now
👊🏼💥
Man I was hoping y’all were gonna use that glaze with it but I’m gonna try it and see how it goes! Not sure if it wanna pour the glaze on it before or after carving. I’m also planning on brining it with your mix and then mixing your brine mix with a cup of chicken stock and stick of butter and injecting it before frying.
Pour the glaze on first then carve 👊🏼💥
Season after the fry. Like you would with wing dust so that the seasoning doesn’t burn. 👍👍
I season before and it’s never burnt. Most of the dry spices in bbq rubs don’t burn until well over 400°. You don’t deep fry that high.
Might have to try that 👊🏼💥
@@TechGnomie as long as the rub doesn’t have sugar
@@Krute24that’s fair. I do a four step process. Brine, inject, season, then fry. The brine has brown sugar, so that just caramelizes as it cooks.
This doesn't relate to the turkey, but I am looking for a new grill. What grill is that behind you in the video? I'v seen you use it before but can never get the name.
If you mean the one built into the counter, it's a Twin Eagle 👊🏼💥
I think you did a phenomonal job for your first time. I recommend a bloody mary with it next time!
Appreciate you 👊🏼💥 and I second that recommendation 😂
Masterbuilt electric fryer all day!! Gotta treat the bird the same as dunking in hot oil..but i was very impressed..i bought mine when they first came out..i did a 20lb turkey like it says they can hold to the max..never looked backed!!! You dont have to guess how much oil to use tells you in the instructions plus its marked inside the fryer..if it was to over flow you dont have a flame that'll ignite it more..got a set timer for how many pounds ur frying, how long, and temp to cook. So with that being said got my kosmos turkey brine and rub ready to go! Great video bird looks nice and juicy brother!
Appreciate you 👊🏼💥
Anyone here recommends this same brine along with Tony Chacharre Creole Butter marinade injections before frying?
We've seen a lot of comments of people using this combo and loving it 👊🏼💥
Stainless steel or aluminum pot?
Stainless 👊🏼💥
Use your Cajun Brine and season with the new blackened…. Thank me later … By the way stick a broom handle through the hook so 2 people can lower the Turkey and keep further away from the oil .. Oil burns are 0 fun. Thanks for the awesome content and the absolute best BBQ seasonings … Happy Thanksgiving!
Boom! Happy Thanksgiving 👊🏼💥
What temp was your oil?
350°F
Need a fire blanket!
Not a bad idea 👊🏼💥
Can't you make a pulley and wench so that you can lower it down without your hands being really close?
We're tool using mammals.
Huh, never thought of that
Pro tip from someone that cooks multiple a year for a lot of years. 2.5 per lb and leave it in a cooler for another 2 hours and I swear it’s butter (depending on the size 18 or bigger I go 3 minutes per lb). Also pull away the skin for the breast a little bit not all the way and butter under it (obviously inject it too) stay away from sugar seasoning. The skin will be crispy enough cause of the oil.
Also don’t waste the oil throw some portobello mushrooms, some okra, pretzels, twinkies, battered butter sticks, pancake battered Oreos… etc while you’re frying. (I’m southern btw)
Might have to give this a try 👊🏼💥
Love my masterbut indoor turkey fryer, best turkey I've ever made. Brine it in kosmo, inject with Tony's and take that turkey swimming!
👊🏼💥
Know your trying to be a little more healthy but a deep fried turkey is the best.
👊🏼💥
Your brine kit, smoke it first then fry it. It’ll change your life 😜
Are you buying fresh turkey
👊🏼💥
I have been wondering if that would work! Do you pull the turkey out right before it's done and move to fryer?
Wow, I have fried thousands of Turkeys for over 30 years and I am absolutely the Best at frying a turkey and I have created the very best Cajun Fried Turkey Seasoning in 3 flavors. I can produce the absolute best fried turkey. So juicy so good, the best in the world. Guaranteed. I have the best injection method that I developed frying so many turkeys, the best timing, the best temp, everything
Good for you. Now what does that have to do with this video?
@@Sheeradee Didn't he ask for help?
👊🏼💥
Well? What is it? Frying tomorrow, having our Thanksgiving on Friday this year.
No one cares here, and no one cares anywhere else.
Try less gloating. You might get someone who wants to listen.
Always inject. 99% use Tony’s creole butter injection but would like your take. A spicy/savory injection
I like the brine method, but you do you 👊🏼💥
@@KosmosQ You can do both, even better!
You should inject it with a butter garlic sauce :)
Might try that next time 👊🏼💥
THAT IS A GOOD VIDEO, NOW WHY CAN'T EVERY BBQR DO THIS SAFELY WHEN DEEP FRYING THEIRS!!!
Call it being overly cautious as a first timer haha
Do 3 min a pound...don't worry about seasoning the outside just inject creole....also let your bare turkey drain and dry over night before all said above....I dislike turkey but fried like I said will give you the best
👊🏼💥
brine with beer
Hmmm might try that
Mine came out blacker than black! Still good tho
Depends on the type of rub you use...
@@MDMcCue theirs
Might have left it in a little long 👊🏼💥
@@KosmosQ went 3min a pound at 350°. Thinking my gauge mustve been off! Checked at 45 min and she black
Alot of people when they deep fry turkey they put it in the fryer while it's still frozen
And that's why their houses burn down 😅
@@KosmosQ yep
First time my ass 😂 but I have learned about 15 minutes before finishing pull the turkey up take some gloves and pull the legs apart not off just apart you'll be surprised how much more even it is
It seriously was the first time we've fried one
You definitely screwed the turkey up. Don’t stab the turkey. Leave it alone.
I agree
@@Sheeradee he let out all the flavor
Well.. okay then
No injection, seasoning on the outside only, OMW. I could teach you a whole lot, I could partner with you to sell turkeys or turkey seasoning to sell to the whole world that they would have the very best.
Well okay then
Shank ur turkey before frying it
Not sure what you mean...
