    Appreciate you guys for talking about Julio in this capacity. Nobody else has really been willing to do it. I personally think he could be a good #2 on a championship team but he can't be your best player. It's clearly he doesn't have that "special stuff" that certain winning players have.

    Gunnar and Bobby have been proving that they are true superstars. Patience with Jrod is getting thin but should never try to get Soto. Soto will never be worth the money he's gonna be asking for. He isn't a good defender so you'll only be paying for his bat, and he wants 45M+ per year which is crazy, that's more than judge and he isnt even as good a hitter or defender as judge. And he doesn't earn much money back for the team like Ohtani does for his teams. A team would have to be filthy rich to risk putting all that money into one player.

    I also hate to say it, but elite starting pitching doesn't win championships anymore. Elite offenses, solid starting pitching, and really good to great bullpen is what wins. It might be time to have the conversation of "What can we get for George Kirby in a trade?" "Can we unload Luis Castillo's contract to add more hitters?"

    It’s the mariners’ inability to develop hitters. For whatever reason, hitters do not want to come here. Look at Polanco…he clearly does not want to be here and is just biding his time until he gets released. The mariners are a toxic environment for hitting. The entire FO needs to be changed Scott Servais needs to go. I don’t think it’s entirely their fault, but you have to start adding it up. Why do guys like Kelenic and Teoscar get shipped out and start hitting when they both couldn’t hit here??? If Julio got traded he would start hitting. What is going on within the organization? I don’t know but we need new people in charge who do know.

    I've watched 90% of his ABs since 2020. He's been figured out by pitchers in the leagues. Fastballs in. Sliders away. The problem is with Julio. He refuses to adjust this strategy. # 1 he dances up to plate. Never sets himself. Hes constantly moving his hands up and down. Hes not ready to hit. Makes hims late on every pitch. He doesn't dig in. He doesn't load. He is not moving towards the pitch at time of swing. Impossible to catchup. 93 down middle is beyond him now. Mentally he looks defeated. His swing is defensive. Hands and weight back and loaded for bear will make a world of difference. Worse thing that happened was crowning him Superstar 3 months into 2022. Giving him the big contract. He should of earned it first. Terrific defensive player and horrible hitter at this point. Sorry but the truth. Superstars are clutch and consistent.

    Gentleman Julio has superstar talent but has never truly harnessed that talent. A superstar is a consistent performer who comes through in the clutch for his team. People talk about him like he has a long track record of success at the major league level. The reality is if not for a torrid month last season Julio would have been a disappointment. So he goes and tweaks his swing which has led to consistent inside/out contact to the right side or hard contact on the ground. I fear he might just be what he is today. That being a guy with superstar talent that is just struggling to put it together.

    Julio is a star and has the tools of a superstar, but he's not there yet. He can't be considered that until he's able to string together his 2023 August numbers stretched across the entire the season. Superstars are dependable. He has to control the strike zone and stop chasing. It's too easy to pitch to him now b/c he's missing balls in the zone and chasing out of it. He's not seriously feared.

I'm afraid that if they don't go huge at this deadline they may just as well sell it off. If the front office can't support this team they will have no chance of resigning the young guns. I hate to say this but I think stanton and jerry knew this fanbase was starving for a superstar so as soon as they found someone they could even remotely push on us like one they jumped on it to increase hype and sell tickets. Don't get me wrong julio is an elite athlete I just am not sure that he has the other skills that will make him an elite baseball player and those two things are not mutually exclusive I hope I'm wrong cause he is who we have and with his contract we have no shot at getting any other elite baseball players on this team.

  • @rschreck97
    @rschreck97 Před 6 dny +2

    Still seems early for this. All valid points, he’s not been good this year. If he was shining way above the rest we would look at the rest of the hitters and say “man they’re not good Julio needs help” and it would be a supporting cast issue. But the whole team is struggling and the response is not “this is an organization problem” but it’s a “Julio problem”. Something isn’t clicking for everyone. Baseball is a streaky game so no I’m not worried that the 23 year old has been streaky. He’ll grow into consistency. All the reductionism with J Rod reminds me of the reddit post that was pretty much “If you take away all of Patrick Mahomes great stats he’s an average qb”. J Rod is not Pat Mahomes but yes Julio’s extremely good months do make his career numbers better when paired with the bad months.
    With how the team is performing do we really think Kelenic would be as productive as he has been on the Braves? The Ms screwed him over big time and maybe realized it and made the move out of good faith to him but the best thing they did was trade him to a consistently high performing organization with zero pressure for him to be “the guy”. Now it seems all the hate that was being aimed at JK is now focused on Julio.
    The team needs some sort of audit, which they more than likely are doing, and to bring in some outside sources to try to fix the issue. The concern with that is if they start freaking out about everything it could send the group downward even worse, but this seems like a tight knit group with some good senior leadership who won’t let people freak out. The lineup needs another person who could be “the guy” so Julio doesn’t have to try to be it at all times. We can tell when he tries too hard and he plays way worse for it.

    I can speak for 80 percent of Mariners fan base and say we are over this 2024 version of Ms. There is no where to start because 1-9 has struggled for majority of the season. Tired of Cal and Julio striking out. They are supposed to be the core guys and they are 8 and 9 hitters on most MLB clubs if even on the club at all. I can’t imagine being a starter and knowing the possibility of giving up 2 or less runs an outing and probably not winning that game. Feel bad for the rotation. Feel bad for the fans. Feel bad for me who has been a loyal fan for years. Next spring training every position should be up for grabs. No more guarantees for inconsistent ball players. Football is inching closer and thank the good lord for that. 👍

  • @terrylrice4597
    @terrylrice4597 Před 6 dny +2

    Baseball is by far the most difficult sport when it comes to the mental struggle of the game. It is well known, that the more you “press” the worse you perform typically. Try to imagine you are a 23 year old, and tens of millions of people are relying on you to take your team to a place it has never been, but the only way to do so is to be a true superstar in a game that is also known as “the game of failure.” And you have to do that with a bunch of teammates, who for the most part, are not holding up to their end of the bargain. None of us can possibly imagine what that feels like. And of course, the more you fail, the more pressure you feel, and in turn, the more you press.
    This is why Julio is struggling, it’s pretty obvious IMO. Until he learns how to deal with that (big time deadline additions should certainly help) he’ll continue to struggle.

    • @Heybrotruthhurts
      @Heybrotruthhurts Před 6 dny +1

      I feel like his teammates HAVE been holding up their end of the bargain. They're not getting paid and hyped up like Jrod is. They've been playing to their expected level and the pitching has been great as always. It's really been Jrod who is been dropping the ball and not holding up his end. Don't try to excuse him

    • @terrylrice4597
      @terrylrice4597 Před 6 dny

      @@Heybrotruthhurts I’m not excusing him, I’m just laying down some facts. He does have a couple teammates that have done well, you’re right. I should’ve said the core guys. The guys we look at to be the steady consistent contributors to keep this team from having slides like this. Cal has had a couple weeks where he was great, but for the most part has been extremely streaky. If he’s not hot, he’s ice cold. Crawford has been half the hitter he was last year, and is also very streaky. France is basically the same as as Cal, ice cold or red hot, but more often has been ice cold so far this year, and he plays below average first base and is the slowest guy in the planet, so if he’s not hitting, he literally has zero to negative value. Then there’s “proven hitters” like Garver and Polonco who have been absolutely abysmal. These are the guys we are relying on the most to help carry the team offensively, but collectively, are failing miserably. Rojas, Raley and Moore have been very good compliment pieces, but remember, those guys were part of a platoon at the beginning of the year, and are only playing every day because of other players playing like shit, or injuries. You need every day players to play like every day players.
      And I’m absolutely NOT saying Julio shouldn’t be held accountable for his well below standard hitting so far, but I do think those other fuck heads (Cal, JP, France, Garver and Polonco) are just as, and probably more responsible for how pathetic this lineup has been to date. Julio didn’t put a gun to Dipoto’s head and demand the contract that he got. I don’t think it’s fare to expect a 23 year old to carry a team when 5,6,7…10 plus year “proven veterans” can’t even provide average numbers. When those fucks get their heads out of their asses, I’m sure Julio will too. The kid is still 2-3 years from entering his prime years. He’s got a lot of maturity, as both a player and a person to go through. And I might add that pitching being more dominant across the board than it has ever been in the history of baseball doesn’t help either. Just some extra food for thought.

And he has gotten increasingly worse. And let's face it, J.P. should not be the leadoff hitter. Just a thought. Sometimes the simplest solution is the best. Thanks guys, keep it up!!
