There has to be an approach issue. If you watch every AB, most of the time they're in 0-2,1-2 counts. They need to be more aggressive at the plate and get away from this "work the count" idea. So if you're telling guys to take good pitches it doesn't matter who you bring in. Something has to be wrong approach wise for them to be struggling like this across the board.
Why would they pinch hit for Rojas with Polanco which I knew he was going to strike out before the at bat started
I think the ownership really needs to assess the root cause of our offensive problems before we do any significant wheeling & dealing because we have not had a "decent" offense, IMO, since 2018 and it needs to stop. IMO, we have 3 potential root causes:
1. Safeco Field (sorry not changing it) is a terrible hitters park that seems to be getting harder to play in the warmer it gets and, therefore, any players the M's bring in - free agents or rookies - are likely to fade, struggle or crater.
2. The front office is truly incapable of judging the career trajectories of free agents - Polanco, Garver & Raley are this years' candidates, but Kolten Wong, Adam Frazier & Tim Beckham are among other significant disappointments. The way they have handled the home grown talent is also, at times, questionable - giving Julio the big contract early is one example.
3. The coaching staff is incapable of maximizing talent. Servais & DeHart are the constants in the M's coaching staff as this offense has regressed year after year. Whether free agent or home grown, lots of hitters have struggled here - I can't remember the last time someone came to Seattle as a free-agent hitter and blossomed.
We should determine which of these is the problem - if any - before we do anything else. Can we be sure that any hitters traded for will do well here? I'm not confident that they will be.
Dehart at a minimum should be gone by Monday afternoon. How he is still here is unfathomable.
no other team has issues hitting here. Just the Mariners.
Boomstick
This has been going on for years at this point it’s on Scott and the hitting coach. We need a new captain of this ship
Why would Houston trade tucker? They think they have been odds than the Ms to make WS run this year. They are rolling right now
3 straight innings leaving the bases loaded its actually unreal
Maybe need new manager!
I think it's funny because I did call out the pick-ups at DH and second base. Reasons why 30 year old plus guys who have been injured fall off cliffs. They are a 54% team because they won't spend 25 to 30 million more, which could make a real World Series run.
I ran the numbers last week. If Cal, Julio, JP and Garver were running 120 wRC+, all within reason, the M’s would have a slightly above average, maybe just average offense. Like Lyle said, that would probably get us a 7 game lead or just about. Those guys having career worst at the worst time
@danielsebers671 summed up what’s really wrong with this Mariners club in particular the offensive side. The approach at the plate is horrific. The Ms are taking good pitches to try and work the count and swinging at pitches no where close to the plate. Always being behind in the count giving the advantage to the pitcher every time. There is a simple solution to all of this. Get on the phone and call an Uber for Scott. Tell him to get in and head over to the Sea Tac Airport. Have him get on the plane and then have Scott wave goodbye to Seattle. Your services are no longer needed. 🙋🏻♂️
Trevor May pitched 49 games last year for the A’s with 3.28 ERA, 21 saves and 46.2 IP. The M’s should sign him for middle innings relief. He’s available doing podcasts.
We love Trevor but he seems pretty happy to be retired
@@MarineLayerPod Does he still live in Washington?
Marine Layer Podcast should do a show on Seattle Sports (4AM to 6AM or 11PM to 2AM).
They have to bench Julio (or a least move him down in the lineup). It’s just silly. Hell, I wouldn’t even hate sending him down at this point to get his confidence back.
This is just a bad take. Even as terrible as the offense has been he has been one of the best bats in this terrible lineup. Bench Haniger. Bench Polanco. But Julio has been one of their best bats and plays great defense in CF.
M’s offense has bottomed out, good news gentlemen, I got the solution:
Trade for:
M. Tauchman from CHC
C. Joe from PIT
C. Walker and Sewald from ARI
Call up Locklear and S. Packard
Move on from Polanco and France
Give Locklear and Bliss full time nods.
- Too easy
It’s almost as if the coaching staff and front office are letting feelings get in the way for some of these dudes. Forget that this is a production business. You shouldn’t be on a competitive team as a pro if you’re not producing.
Honestly we don’t need to be buying unless it’s something that will be here for a few years. We need to sell. No chance we’re competing for anything meaningful.
No, do you realize that they are still in first place. That is better than last year. They still can do this. If trading for rentals is what gets us in this year then do it. Extend the guys once they are on our team and then they become for the long term. Get it.
What are you talking about? The guys just explained how a few decent bats revamps this lineup, and I agree.
We are half way thru the season and in first place, this ship can be righted
we are in 1st place with the best rotation in the league buy buy buy
@@dr3693 give it time we will be out of it soon.
@@matthewedwards6212 we have one good bull pen arm and need at least three bats. We don’t have that kind of depth in the farm system to deplete it just to make the playoffs. None of the bats that are available are a lock to make a dramatic difference. Trading for a bat or two doesn’t fix Julio, JP, Cal or anyone else. It’s a team wide approach that is being taught and it’s not having success. It’s going to take an off season to fix our problems.
This has been a frustrating first place team for sure! We need to DFA some of these players, they are definitely not helping at all or at least barely. This team needs to continue to get back on track with the hitting and also gotta make upgrades at the deadline at the same time, Jerry and Justin need to step up right now otherwise it will be even more disappointing.
These players know what problem is. I wish one player would just speak their mind. I want to know why Ms offensives always suck
Were gonna pull a 2023 Angel's sell the farm and miss the playoffs
Problem is the team isn’t outlier bad except Julio. JP has had 1 good season. Cal is Cal, everyone else that fans are mad at have been declining
They need to trade atleast 5 of the baters in this lineup. I will literally take any other players the league. Just anyone who has been on this team and in the midset that these losers have
France needs to be DFAd too I’m sorry time for him to go along with Polanco. Haniger role of coach but honestly I’d rather have him over Polanco and France on this roster.
its so annoying that our ownership has killed our chances this year. It was there for us to take.....but their lack of a clue has ruined yet another year. Our F.O. has no idea how to evaluate talent. They still believed in Ty France when it was obvious he is not a good player. They thought that JP's season last year was a sign of things to come rather than it being his career year which I knew it was. They thought ridding themselves of two players (Teo and Suarez) who each drove in 90 plus runs and replacing them with an aging and oft injured Mitch Haniger and a platoon of two mediocre players at 3B would be better. The only good move they made was Raley. How can a F.O. miss so many times the past 2 seasons.
Ty did have an amazing first 2 months, on pace for an all star....
Everyone needs to stop complaining, it could be worse. we could be in last place right now. Like the Cubs. My second favorite team. They are awful. We still have a shot at this. Let’s get the bats and win the division.
Mariners did not win the Haniger for Marte trade. You’re high. We accomplished nothing with Mitch. Ketel is 3 years younger. Laughable.
Haniger was a better player than Marte for the first few years. Then Segura had a great year, and he got us JP. It’s been a win
Great pod cast - but Jerry and Co do not make very good personal decisions
Aside from 95,97,01,and 22 they have been consistently bad. They dont need another generation to have an excuse...they need to win now and do whatever it takes to get better because their pitching may never be this good again...obviously they need to be smart about it but they need to be aggressive!
Go get honer and Happ, give cubs polonco, Clase, young, haniger, felisten and Hancock.
Why in the hell would the Cubs want Haniger and his salary?
@@Nelly34eOr Polanco lmao.
Both teams say no to that. Seattle isn't getting back enough production to warrant sending two top prospects, and Chicago isn't taking bacl Haniger and Polanco's salaries. Stay off the drugs
@@kylewilson2819
Actually I think this deal would get done because cubs would want the prospects then DFA the bad they win in that regard. The Mariners win on the bats for this year. So I see it as a win win.
get rid of France......please. He hasn't hit since the first half of 2022.
