  • Today I install a Helmet Lock on my Kawasaki Vulcan S 650 SE ABS.
The Vulcan S Motorcycle comes with a preinstalled mounting point for the Helmet Lock, which makes this install quick and easy.
Lucky for us, is that there are after market options for Helmet Locks which make for economic sense. If I was to purchase the OEM Kawasaki Helmet Lock here in the USA, it curently retails for $128.95. WHAT the......? (Expensive $$$$). I was able to purchase my Helmet Lock on Amazon for $20.81, yes I saved $108.14 by purchasing the after market lock.
So whats the difference beside price? Kawasaki OEM has a one key system where you can have your ignition key fit the Helmet Lock. I'm sure the dealer charges more for that option! I don't mind an extra key for saving over $100.00!
The plus of a helmet lock is mostly to keep your helmet from falling off your bike when parked because that could caus internal damage making the helmet worthless. Plus it keeps you from needing to carry your helmet around with you while off the bike.
Negatives? But let's face it, there are parts of this World where someone might just cut your helmet strap and steal your helmet. These locks only truely keep honest people honest. The helmet also faces inside up, so Weather could cause some nasty results.
But for less than $25.00 with tax, why not have an extra, handy, upgrade?
I have ridden Motorcycles for 50 years now, and I really love this bike so far. Of course with my past experience in riding, I feel this is a great bike for experienced or new riders riders that like a sporty crusier and enjoy the wonderful World of 650 class bikes.
The Vulcan S has ample power, and it is not a bike most riders would want to change out anytime soon. And as such it could fit the needs of both experienced and a newer rider. However I do not recommend or endorse that anyone ride a motorcycle, but if you are new I feel it's essential that you first complete an approved Safety Course.
Thank you for watching, please hit the thumbs up, and while you are at it please subscribe. I appeciate you!

The Kawasaki part is more expensive but it is part of their one key system. You put the lock together for it works with the same key that starts the bike. I have enough keys to carry I don't need another one

That's fair. Everyone's Bike is their own Ride, and as such should be setup in the way they like it. That sounds like a great option.
I personally carry a disc brake lock with alarm, and a miniature garage door opener. However I have a small tail bag that I can put many things in, and it to has a combination cable lock on it. So extra things I carry do not cause any issues for myself. I own several bikes so my system is easy to grab & go depending on which Ride I'm taking that day.
In all honesty I rarely use the helmet lock but it is there when the need arises.
Thanks for chiming in And ride safe!

Trying to find somewhere where it won't get wet inside if it suddenly rains!!! Any suggestions...?

Not really. Not a lot of options, I put it where the OEM lock would go. If I think it's going to rain I will carry it with me. A water proof bag/cover would help.

So I went back to my orders, the one I purchased says no longer available. However this one looks identical. Remember it fits bikes through 2019.
If yours is newer, expand your search.

Never understood these, can't someone just cut the strap on helmet??

    • @frdbecker
      @frdbecker  Před 2 lety +2

Of course they can. Keeping honest people honest. But it also prevents the typical resting helmet on a seat or handlebar from becoming a wind blown helmet hitting road surface (which can render it unsafe) or the quick swipe and run theft. If someone is determined enough to squat, pull a knife, cut, it's no stopping it.
There are parts of the world where everything of value is fair game, but I don't live there.
Great comment and question. Thank you.
