    Hi! Thanks very much for the kind compliment! For a green base, I would do Rakarth Flesh and then shade with Biel-Tan green or Coelia Greenshade. Each gives you a different hued green, depending on if you want to go lighter or darker. Try checking out my Nurgle Plague Zombie cultist for an example! Thanks again for watching!

    @TheMadwizz thank you! I don't know when it happened, but at some point over the last year, I set myself the goal of every so often, taking models I hated and painting them as best I could, maybe in an alternate color scheme, so that I wouldn't hate them so much. These guys were pretty much at the top of the list haha. Thanks again for the compliment!

    Thank you! Glad I was able to help =D For the ghoul eyes, I believe I used a Citadel Miniatures Fine Detail Brush, if your store does not have that, just look for the smallest tipped brush you can fine. They all work great if you have patience and keep your hands steady!

    fantastic! I'm glad you were able to convert the old colors into the new ones and use this video for inspiration! Vampire Counts and Chaos are terrific armies, and I commend you for getting the paints you need to do the models justice! When I got back into the hobby, I thought "Well, one green is just about the same as another, right? Plus, shading and highlighting just sounds like so much extra work, I think I'll just skip it".
    Result: RADIOACTIVE NIGHT GOBLINS!!!

    Hi! I used Dheneb Stone, Ogryn Flesh, Khemri Brown, Chaos Black, Calthan Brown, Boltgun Metal, Codex Grey, Red Gore, Rotting Flesh, Baal Red, Leviathan Purple, Badab Black, Tallarn Flesh.
    If you don't have any of these old paints, you could just use a paint color converter (like the one on GW's webpage) to learn what the current colors are!

      +James White Thank you for the compliment! I wanted to do something different with the ghouls, as I thought that GW really made them look a little too bright and colorful for my taste. Painting them in this darker and more "human" skin tone with grit and gore really appealed to me.

    @DevilsPr0d1gy Excellent! I'm glad the tutorial could be of help! I really really like this bloody gory style, the pale green ghouls never really did it for me, and I remember seeing one of the example eavy metal pictures showing something like this and thinking of movies like The Descent where the creatures are naturally really pale but just covered in gore and bruised and bloody. I hope your ghouls make a big splash at their unveiling! Let me know what everyone else thinks!

    Thanks! I actually have a very old snow basing video from last year, but my methods have changed somewhat. I'll see if I can do an updated video on snow effects. Personally I like the 'slushy' snow effect rather than the powdery fresh snow that I see on so many bases. All you really need is some water effects, pva glue, and snow effects, mix the three together, and voila! =D

    Secondly, a question, does it really matter if I base coat with white spray, or does it work pretty much equally well if I just base with deneb stone from scratch?

    What colour/colours would I use to highlight the actual skin? As mine has gone quite dark and i'd like to bring it back a bit and neaten things up too.
    Thanks.

    • @WarbossTae
      @WarbossTae  Před 8 lety

      +Shaun :Hi! Because this is such an old video, for the newer range, I would actually use Cadian Fleshtone as a highlight, but then re-glaze it so that looks darker and more red/purple than a nicely highlighted pale skinned model. So after painting your highlights, don't apply the shade directly, but thin down the wash with water, about 2:1 shade to water, and paint it on.
      Hopefully, that will tie your highlights to the darker shaded areas and give you a very nice effect!

  • @WarbossTae
    @WarbossTae  Před 12 lety

    @Handegekke I would say, for dark grey, do a Thraka Green, and while that's still wet, Baal Red? Try it out, and let me know how it goes. I did the same for some zombies a while back and they came out Dark Grey =D

  • @mralloc23
    @mralloc23 Před 12 lety

    I was thinking maybe a yellow moon, or spider theme. Spiders make for a bland paint scheme though (since they are all black basically...) But I'm gonna go with Mantic minis for my core units (shhh don't tell GW) and the skeletons come with blank shields, so I was thinking spider web designs. And then maybe tie in a faint yellow light from a certain vantage point to hold them together with the bad moon theme.

  • @amymaru7683
    @amymaru7683 Před 8 lety

    I love those! I'm about to start painting my ghouls, would you use the same paint colors? I mean are there like 'modern names' of the paints you used? Also do you water down the paints prior to applying like the flesh coat or just use it out of the bottle? If so whats the process of watering it down?

    • @WarbossTae
      @WarbossTae  Před 8 lety

      +Amy Maru Hi! The new equivalents of the paint range will give you a similar look, but it might turn out a little differently to what I've done, as they are not exactly the same, color-wise. As for the watering down, I always paint with a wet palette. It's very simple to make and will allow you to thin your paints down to be manageable without clumping up. Here's how I make mine the cheap and easy way: czcams.com/video/kmuhC1hAySo/video.html
      It's better, though, if you have parchment paper, to use that instead of a paper towel, because the paint won't seep through.
      Once you start using a wet palette, you'll never go back to painting straight out of the pot. To thin down paint, you can also use an acrylic thinner, but I find it simple enough to just add about half as much water to the amount of paint I'm using, so a drop of water for every two drops of paint. Basically, with GW paints, though, I just eyeball it. First, I put about a brush's worth of paint onto my wet palette, then I quickly dip my brush into my water cup, and bring it back to mix onto my wet palette.
      A wet palette will also make it easy to mix paints, as well, when you want to highlight your models, but want to make the highlights subtle and not pop too much.

  • @Methevas12
    @Methevas12 Před 8 lety

    About to start painting for the first time and I like your paint scheme the most, however with the newer colours, is there any that you would switch out?

    • @WarbossTae
      @WarbossTae  Před 8 lety

      Definitely! Many of the new colors aren't very close to the older colors, and you'll really find what works for you with a little experimentation. But overall, I would suggest doing the following:
      Rakarth Flesh instead of Dheneb Stone
      Bugman's Glow instead of Tallarn Flesh
      Reikland Fleshshade instead of Ogryn Flesh
      Carrouberg Crimson instead of Baal Red
      I hope those work for you, buddy! Let me know if they turn out drastically different, and I'll help you tweak some colors, but I haven't gone back and re-done this color scheme with the new colors, so I'm just taking guesses here hahaha!

    Love this vid, but cant help wondering something, with the tallern flesh and rotting flesh highlights to the boils/pustules and scars, which colour is intended to go below the other? My assumption was green under the pink, but the pink is foundation. As it is, i've done pink on the scars and green on the pustules, but your dialog in the vid is not really clear on this. Thanks for this way to paint them, its not as simple as just black, thraka green, but will give my army some much needed variety.

    • @WarbossTae
      @WarbossTae  Před 10 lety

      Hi Andrew! Sorry for not being clear in the video, I use the pink Tallarn Flesh as the foundation and add in the Rotting Flesh to highlight. I never did like the GW light green ghouls and thought this was a different and just as awesome way to finish them off =D

    Hello, new to painting minatures. just wondering about how you paint the bases once you have finished the coats and washes on the minature.

    • @WarbossTae
      @WarbossTae  Před 8 lety

      Hello Brian! Thanks for writing! Usually, I start by first gluing the rocks to the base (or the gravel, or whatever). This will help them stick better when you prime your miniatures and paint them. When you're ready to paint the actual bases, I normally start with a thinned (watered down) coat of Abaddon Black, again to fill the cracks and adhere all the gravel together. Then I drybrush with either Dryad Bark or Mournfang Brown (both will give you different finishes, so you just choose the one you like best), then do a drybrush of Steel Legion Drab, then Rakarth Flesh. Drybrush all of these layers so that the layer beneath can still be seen and you get a natural looking blend of browns and beige colors.
      Since you're commenting my Ghoul video, I think you might be wondering about these colors, which are slightly different. For the new range, I would go Abaddon Black - Stormvermin Fur - Eshin Grey, to get a gradual color change from black to brown/grey. Put in a little green flock or dead grass flock for a pop of color (use white glue, not super glue), and you're good to go!

    • @brianm5947
      @brianm5947 Před 8 lety

      Thanks! Do you paint the model itself while its on the base and then paint the base after?

    • @WarbossTae
      @WarbossTae  Před 8 lety

      Exactly glue the model together first, then glue it to the base, then glue the gravel to the base, prime the whole thing, paint just the miniature, then finish by painting the base. That's my process!

      Unfortunately, they've all been replaced when GW moved to using a different paint distributor. Their newer range has a lot more paint colors, but they are not always equivalent to the older colors, which were, in my opinion, a little better overall.
