Apart from my ex wife at my divorce, this IS the finest piece of acting Ive seen....
Stephen Vince-- this made me laugh out loud😄
she didn't take everything mate .you've still got that wonderful sense of humour .great comment . you're comment is resonating with a lot of men . making them feel better because they're not feeling alone anymore
She's living rent free in your head, get over it and move on.
Til death do you part. Your death or hers is up to you!
PMSL🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👍
“You cannot reason with a tiger when your head is in its mouth”
timestamp 7:01 for those curious
Bird of Prey he should’ve said “YOU CANNOT REASON WITH A TIGER WHEN IT’S SHELL HAS EXPLODED IN YOUR HULL!”
I was scrolling through the comments and started reading this AS SOON AS I heard him bellow it out in the video.
"Will you stop interrupting me while I am interrupting you!!"
The best thing about Gary Oldman is that you often don't realise he's on screen, that's how good he is.
I have waited for DECADES for this talented man to finally get the accolades he deserves and I'm glad it's finally happening.
ilovebeinagirl - yeah oldmans a genius finally got his big leading role
He has had memorable leading roles like Dracula and Smiley in the past. It's just that this is the first time he chose to play a very award friendly historic giant in such a blatantly Oscar-baity movie. And he did it ridiculously well
So agreed he does it for the love of his craft
Agree with Daniel Radcliffe... Gary Oldman is pretty much the best we have as an actor.
what about DD lewis?
TrewY DDL is very talented but an insufferably arrogant and unlikable person.
...since Daniel Day Lewis retired.
Ruth Page: you're absolutley right! Gary Oldman is a monster of ability! Never seen such a performance, just incredible.
Ruth-Elizabeth Page you’re the only person I’ve come across that feels that way. Gary is a great person and I’ve heard many actors talk about him , working w him and they all talk well of him.
I was a teenager when the great man died and watched his funeral. I have watched this movie many times. I value its use of the Prime Minister's words. Nothing more powerful.
"He has weaponized the English language and sent it forth." Great ending.
I honestly think Gary is one of the best actors of our time, he can play anyone and anything.
What a lovely mild mannered, unassuming, modest man Gary Oldman is.
A absolute masterpiece of acting and film making, breathtakingly good.
Great you should have said..
The details about WC's chair. The stress of depression and war that he turned outward to be the great man is a treasure that Oldman found. Amazing actor.
Why are all British actors so damn talented & elegant? :D
Greatest American Actors have said, Why the British are such great actors - they ALL do "Shakespeare" which is not easy to do.
Sykeye S -
"Why are all British actors so damn talented...."
I think PART of the answer accounts also for why we are SO good at War, and why we have invented SO many sports (among other things):
A natural Sense of Playfulness (and Adventure) in our national character (which in turn also explains our love of Humour and *word-play* , the latter dating back to Saxon times).
Just some random thoughts...............................
because we are Britons, mate...
Don't get too cocky.
Only the Shakespeare theatre training (at school) is the main power.
The English were actually not good in war.... on THEIR OWN..against POTENT enemies.
The English were good in forging alliances , and make their partners TAKE THE FIRST SHOTS before arriving LAST on the battlefield...(from the Wars of succession in 1700's , thru the Napoleons, WW1 til WW2...check it).
And the Empire building came from conquering third rate technologically underrated foreign kingdoms..and overrunning colonial settlements when they were at their weakest while the brits had theirs prepared in a kindof "blitz" attack if you will...
And the Inventing most Sports thing is also...a nay.
But once HAVINg a stretched Empire OF COURSE leads to vast acceptance of all kinds of accepted sports.
And they can do perfect American accents. whenever an American actor wants to pass as a Brit, he/she sounds contrived and artificial (save for G. Paltrow)
I seldom agree with the Oscars but they got it right this time. Oldman was magnificent.
Did he win the award for best actor?
@@scotthamp384 yes
His Churchill as a combination of supremely commanding and yet vulnerable makes this the best I’ve witnessed.
He is without doubt the greatest Churchill I’ve ever seen
John Lithgow in the Crown is better by far, actually.
Lithgow is not better, it's just you prefer him to Oldman. That's totally okay. But even Churchill scholars and family members say Oldman is the only actor who nailed the true spirit and human side of the guy.
I have not seen more praise for Oldman than I saw for Lithgow from either of the sources you mention. And, having read all of Sir Winston's work as well as listened to the extant speeches, I have to say that Lithgow's depiction nails the spirit and general presence of the man, while Oldman overdramatizes, speaks in a tone of voice and cadence which Sir Winston never, ever used, and generally lacks the quintessential feel of soppy bulldog the man exuded.
True, I am not privvy to knowing what he was like in private, but I dare say the accuracy of Lithgow's portrayal of the public persona over Oldman's, is not disputable.
Gary Oldman played Churchill better than Chirchill
John Lithgow did a great job too but Gary Coleman is my personal favourite
I personally love that the film included Churchill and King George VI's stutter. Just little details like that impress the history buff in me.
Justin Dieterich I was impressed with both Jarred Harris (The Crown) and James Purefoys (Churchill) take on Elizabeth II father. Both roles were emotionally engaging, I prefer them more than Collin Firths take on him to be honest.
I was hoping to see King George VI's stutter but wish Colin Firth was there instead. However, it would have taken something away from the part for Gary Oldman as Churchill. After all Colin Firth has such presence. All actors including Colin Firth admires Gary Goldman for his chameleon talent to submerge himself so thoroughly he is unrecognizable. He is amazing! I personally feel Gary Oldman if nominated will win the "Oscar."
If you like history, check the TRUE history about fat Churchill! It's all here on CZcams! He was responsible for MILLIONS of deaths!
Yesssss I’m a detail person too!
+Oldglen Sea ye have to hand it to them
.they could make Ian Huntly into a telly tubby if they so desired
It’s unfortunate most people don’t realize how good what they are watching really is. I mean the majority of Americans don’t even know who Churchhill was let alone what he did for us all. Gary oldman nailed it. One of the best performances I’ve ever seen
That’s not true.
I’m an American that knows exactly what Churchill did for Britain and the western world. But I’m sure most Americans have no idea.
Maybe a little exaggerated don't ya think LoL at least half the population had a parent or grandparent alive during WWII and were in school when WWII was relatively recent history. I would dare say even the majority of high school students today have at least know that Churchill was someone important.
Anyway the whole thing about people doomed to repeat history if they don't remember history is hogwash as we're seeing now.
Of course we do. We're taught that we bailed him out by about 2nd grade.
With that being said, he's responsible for that part of the western world from not speaking German.
I bet there's youth in the UK who don't know who he is, just as much.
"You cannot reason with a Tiger, when your head is in its mouth." just wow!! Loved this movie and Mr. Gary Oldman's performance.
Gary Oldman is my favorite actor. He's FUCKING brilliant.
More talent in this man than most actors can ever dream of.
I admire him. An international treasure of an artist. 👍
Gary Oldman is an absolutely amazing actor and has in my opinion did not just portray Winston Churchill. Winston Churchill could not have played the part better than Gary Oldman. Absolute masterpiece! My favorite part was when he yells at Lord Halifax (WILL YOU STOP INTERRUPTING ME WHILE I AM INTERRUPTING YOU). By far my favorite Churchill movie ever.
When ever I feel defeated with things, I always watch this film , always and I mean always makes me feel better, never give up . Thank you Gary
From Dracula to churchill you are a school of acting, thank you Gary
Reznov aswell
Unga Bunga MY NAME IS VIKTOR REZNOV
I have been a huge fan of his acting since "Sid and Nancy."
Just got back from the cinema, holy shit what a great film this is.
i saw repeatedly on the part of " you can't reason with a tiger when your head is in its mouth"
This is one of the Greatest actors of our time
You were completely transported back to those unimaginably difficult times. Like YOU were there watching.
His realism is so complete, mannerisms, walk, cane movement, cigar, voice, facial expressions.....he became the man! Gary was superb! The sets, supporting cast, color and lighting all came together to make this film the masterpiece it is!
Gary Oldman is way too underrated. Too many iconic roles gone unnoticed
Gary Oldman completely dissolves into every role and reemerges as the character. One of the very finest of our era.
Every time I see an interview with Gary Oldman I am always and profoundly taken back by the depth of his sincerity. No-matter what role he's playing one strongly gets the sense that he deeply respects it and does everything to make that role as real as possible....he's a genuine master craftsman.
Gary Oldman, without a doubt the Dustin Hoffman of european character actors. So underrated, yet so brilliant.
I went to the same school as Gary in new cross south London
Brilliantly played by Gary south London boy and millwall fan
Churchill Greatest Ever Englishman , God bless you
Rip
I wanted to see this film specifically to see Gary Oldman play Churchill. I was not disappointed but amazed and felt as if I were there watching this great man Churchill.
@Jake Green Fuck off.
@Jake Green Actually, Gallipoli was a very good plan. Not all plans succeed but it doesn't make them any less worth attempting.

What's so great about ordering RAF Bombers to carry out nightly bombing raids on German cities. They wouldn't dare try it in the daytime. Disgusting
@@Smudgeroon74 give over mate, we'd be flying the swastika above our heads, operation dynamo was a plan that nobody believed in but him an went against his war cabinet amd bought over 300,000 troops back, had bigger bollocks than you will ever have, so have a day off you prick
Didn’t even know this movie existed until very recently. Oldman was absolutely unbelievable as Churchill, but that’s almost to be expected… Gary Oldman is a Legend. Fantastic performance, fantastic picture
Gary Oldman is:
1. Sexy
2. Talented
3. Entertaining
4. Charming
5. And a Legend
I’ve watched it three or four times already. So many great scenes.
Ditto! This movie is the definition of "excellence!"
It's by far one of my favorite historic films. Mister Oldman did an AMAZING performance and i hope he gets the oscar for it
Ale A. Santi he did
As soon as I saw the movie, I knew that he must win the Oscar for best actor. It was an absolutely stunning performance.
"He mobilised the English language, and sent it into battle"
Just as a new benchmark was created in prosthetics....your performance Mr. Old man has set a new stellar standard for Sir Winston Churchill that will not be seen again for decades if ever.
This is a very moving film, We wil never surrender
Gary Oldman just keeps growing in stature as an actor - that piece where he talks about the chair Churchill sat in under incredible stress (WW2) and, damaged the armrests!
It is just my opinion but I believe you to be the most versatile actor of our time.
Undoubtedly one of the greatest actors ever.
Well deserved Academy Award. Outstanding performance
Best performance in many many years. Oldman breathed life into the memory of one of the greatest men that ever lived.
The most deserved Best Actor Oscar ever won .
My personal favorite scene in Darkest Hour is the phone conversation with FDR regarding delivery of fighter aircraft and the fact that the Brits had to come, literally, push the aircraft over the Canadian border for delivery. Mr. Oldman perfectly captured Churchill's desperate astonishment at the absolute absurdity of the situation which was just one small piece of a much larger, much more desperate and, one could say, vastly more absurd situation going on all around him in that moment.
I wasn’t watching Gary oldman. I was watching Winston Churchill. Amazing
Superb performance as Sir Winston Churchill. Oldman nailed it ❤
Amazing how such a quiet and humble man can pull off such BIG characters, time and time again. Gary Oldman is right up there with the finest actors ever to grace our nation and indeed the world.
I knew he could pull it off. Fantastic performance.
You, Mr Oldman, were breathtaking !
I just saw the Darkest Hour. This film was amazing. One reason I watched this film was my dad was a WWII veteran.
i just finished watching this movie.
I HAD NO IDEA THAT WAS GARY OLDMAN PLAYING CHURCHILL.
I had to look up the movie after to see who everyone was and was absolutely shocked it was Gary.
Absolute tour de force of acting here and completely deserved that Oscar for Best Actor. Bravo.
Mr Oldman you did a brilliant job playing Winston churchill
I have never known an actor take on the role of another like Gary Oldman's portrayal of Churchill. It was awe-inspiringly brilliant.
A stellar performance by this actor Gary Oldham. A beautifully made film that will go down as thee best film of history i have seen in my 61 yrs. ✌💖
Whem Gary is in movie, you know it will be a great performance from him. A brilliant, humble, creative talent that has improved with age.
...without a doubt , a true masterpiece, what will be a classic.
This is by far THE BEST historically accurate and portrayed movie ever! After the first viewing of it I had to purchase it. Every week or so when I need a dose of inspiration I return to this film. Gary Oldman, you are a genius! The very best work ever! Thank you for saying "Yes."
Phenomenal performance
One of the Greatest films of all time. A Masterpiece !!!
One of the best, if not THE best characterisation of Churchill ever. Following on from his portrayal of George Smiley in Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, I have no doubt that Gary Oldman is one of our greatest actors. First came to my notice in the film State of Grace staring along side Sean Penn and Ed Harris - another great film. Keep up the great work Gary.
Gary Oldman. Simply. Favorite actor.
One of the finest performance I've eve seen.
The best interpretation of Sir Winston. Wonderful, inspirational and the best acting I have ever seen.
Such an incredible performance. I still cannot believe what Gary Oldman accomplished in this role!!!!!
Well done, Mr. Oldman. Thanks for letting us in the US know again what a true leader is.
Humble....how refreshing.
Having read and studied Churchill since I was a kid - Gary Oldman nailed it.
Two important notes worth remembering about Winston Churchill. The first was that his mother, whose maiden name was Jennie Jerome, was an American lady, born in New York.
I am convinced that her genes contributed to Winston’s energy.
The second note is that almost as soon as Winston became a Member of Parliament, he went to have a suit ‘built’ for him by Henry Poole, Tailors in Savile Row even though he could hardly afford to! He felt he had to look the part!
Gary Oldman, whose portrayal of Winston was simply brilliant, wore a suit especially ‘built’ for him by Henry Poole which was identical to Winston’s original one! It was even made of the same cloth!
I don’t think energy was the key ingredient, what his mother gave him was freedom from the self consciousness and restraint that some British people suffer from, he was seen as pushy and he didn’t care. She also introduced him to many American politicians who were great orators, and all that moulded him considerably. Thank god for his mother, also she used her looks to help him on, every man in London was pleased to help, just for a smile, let alone more. A great lady. He is without question the greatest Anglo American that will or did ever live. And the greatest Britain of our history.
Most underrated actor period.....
I told a good friend that I wanted to learn about Winston Churchill and he recommended this movie. Just loved it!
Haven't seen the film yet but holy shit, just this interview with Oldman is golden.
Gary Oldman is the MAN! He becomes the character so thoroughly it is truly amazing. I have been a big fan for years, and each new role he takes only increases my esteem of the skill Gary Oldman brings to bear. Wonderful!
WOW, WOW! What an incredible performance! The Oscar is more than deserved! An astonishing artist incredibly gifted in transforming himself. The movie is a real masterpiece.
IMHO Gary Oldman, through thr example of the sheer diversity and breadth of the many roles he's portrayed, is simply the greatest actor of his generation. Great stuff!! It's a delight watching him.bring each character to life. 👍
Fantastic Performance.
If not the finest, then in the top 3, actor alive today. The role of Winston Churchill is his finest work of all.
Has very quickly become one of my favourite movies of all time..Oldman is superb💜 from Northern Ireland 🇮🇪🇬🇧
Oldman is a fantastic actor that I've always revered since the 80s the only actor that invests in the character so much to the point where you actually forget you're watching an actor
This was the best portrayal of Churchill I've seen, and I've watched it a few times so far. It is that good. After seeing this clip I'll probably watch it again this weekend.
Absolutely agree with you and feel the movie has mesmerized us.
That's why his Family's name is Oldman he nailed playing Oldman Roles.
An extraordinary film made so by an extraordinary actor.
I watch "Darkest Hour" every year.
Winston Churchill was the greatest statesman of the 20th Century and, so far, the 21st Century.
Gary Oldman is so intelligent & human.
"If Oldman acts for a thousand years, men will still say, this was his finest hour".
Masterpiece by oldman
What an awesome actor ❤❤❤
Gary is so good you forget it is Gary!
Absolutely love LOVE Mr Gary Oldman. Superb, just superb
Aside from the voice... it's an excellent job. Churchill had such a singular voice. I've never heard a convincing impersonation.
Big big big fan of truly British old school Gary Oldman
Great movie. Gary Oldman is worlld class.
Gary Oldman is always so damned good !
YOU CAN NOT REASON WITH A TIGER WHILE HE HAS YOUR HEAD IN ITS MOUTH....NO WORDS HAVE EVER RANG MORE TRUE
Just watched, once again Mr Oldman proves he is a far superior actor only comparable to Daniel Day Lewis, Tilda Swinton and Meryl Streep. You see Winston Churchill, you DO NOT see the actor
I was sitting there the whole time trying to figure out who the actor was. Then I heard a clip of Gary Oldman in something else and was wowed. Cinemawins is correct, Gary Oldman is always a win!
Meryl Streep No, I'd say Brando who comes next
Jimmy Neutron
De Niro is better
@@u7angbe Brando was only good when he was a kid, in the same way as James Dean was.
Dean died before he could become a mumbling, overpaid fat bastard like Brando.
Tilda Swinton? You consider her a great actress?
The greatest and most wonderful of all actors and to whom all actors are measured by ! 🙏
Hands down Gary Oldman played one of the best Churchill roles I have ever seen.
Magnificent film. Great performance. Kudos to all involved.
Oldman is magnificent!!!
Holy shit. I watched that whole film and never noticed it was Gary Oldman.
