When you could walk into Downing Street at almost any time and have your picture taken in front of it and the policeman only politely asked you not to go on the step.
I watched Harold Wilson leave the door of No 10. Lots of tourists taking photos. Trust has dwindled so much.
There is a picture from 1967 of my mum with her hand on rhe door of number 10.

As a lad I read Sir Winston Churchill’s great work ; “The History of the English Speaking Peoples”. I remember sitting with my family watching Sir Winston’s funeral on our black and white television in 1965.
Like all prophets, Sir Winston had enemies. Yet, as painful as it is, unpopularity is the lot of the prophet and is - in a fallen world - proof that the prophetic have spoken the inconvenient Truth.
