- Watch Gary Oldman: Movies That Made Me in full on BBC iPlayer: bbc.in/2mj28UW
Academy Award winner Gary Oldman talked to BBC Radio 1's Ali Plumb earlier this year about taking on the role of Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour. He reveals how much he enjoyed playing the iconic figure, how he avoided a bad Churchill impersonation, and the trials of the hours of make-up. - Hudba
That's precisely what is amazing about Gary Oldman, you don't see an actor portraying a character, instead you see the character and later on you remember that it's being portrayed by him. Just, incredible.
Well said. I personally believe that outside of Daniel Day Lewis(who is just on a level all his own), Gary Oldman’s attention to detail and ability to capture the character and personality of a non-fictional character is second to none
What a humble man. Especially the last question. Definitely my top 5 actors
conkerlive101 and the professional..
1 of the best actors in the world... genius
He truly is. A master of his art!
How can you hate this guy? Humble, Witty and Charming. Obviously, his acting skills are impeccable. diCaprio and sometimes Bale have shadowed many careers under their towering performances. This guy is just amazing. But deep down we all know Gary Oldman is the greatest living actor, probably of all time.
He's certainly one of them.
Not the greatest of all
To be honest, Gary Oldman should've won an Oscar years ago. In 2018, that should've been his second Oscar. I think he should've won an Oscar for True Romance. That's his best performance of all time, IMO.
His first Oscar should have been for "Sid and Nancy" or for "Prick up your ears"... or for his marvelous Jackie Flannery in "State of grace"... or for "JFK" and "Dracula"... now I come to think he should have had at least 5 oscars till now 🤔😊
so true, or for "Leon the Professional" which was not even nominated
Gary Oldman is a legend!! .. what a performance!!
Those naysayers who say Oldman's Churchill didn't look and sound like the real one should watch this. He's talking about how he "interpreted" the man based on a thorough research, deliberately avoiding a "bad impression"
This is a brilliant interview. Between Ali not feeling the need to continually interrupt or immediately fill any pause with noise and Gary Oldman being able to articulate his craft on such a finely detailed level is the type of thing that I would pay to see on a larger scale.
good interview, those old clips of Churchill were appreciated too. great actor
The unofficial sequel to dunkirk
I think theaters should have done a double feature of Dunkirk & Darkest Hour.
I appreciated each one more after seeing the other.
I actually thought it would be really cool to edit these movies together, so in addition to the three plotlines of Dunkirk, you have the British government trying to solve this situation as well. It would be an interesting experiment, that's for sure.
Nicolas Winding Refn Wow that's a Great idea, i totally agreed
Wait, wouldn't it be a prequel since it was set before the evacuation began?
What the heck, my internet lingo is gone! Must've been the accent messing with my wernicke area again...
@Nick Quist Quite a brilliant idea really! :)
I'm a big fan of Gary Oldman :) he's been a part of a lot of movies throughout my childhood. And this movie was amazing. I watched it yesterday :D
But I think that Dracula is his best character.. What is your opinion??
He seems like a really good guy.
One of a kind actor, and so kind as man.
Gary Oldman's Genius from Sid Vicious to Winston Churchill ❤️
Amazing actor, he did disappear, to allow us to know a vulnerable strong man with imperfections as the script said, struggling in darkness to bring some understanding if what his beliefs were right
The only thing that the Oscars got right.
Gary Oldman is my dad's favourite actor
Serina T how can he deal with not being yours
she's a feminist. she can't.
If Gary Oldman is your dad's favorite, then who's your favorite actor?
Wow, great interview, agree that the last statement - excellent.
Thanks, Gary!
When I saw Gary in ‘State of Grace’, I became an instant fan.
Me too. Great performance
Brilliant man
From giving us a beloved Sirius Black to kill it in a movie and get the Oscar!!
One of the greatest actors of all time, period.
Loved this
The Darkest Hour is a masterpiece 💙 one of the greatest and deepest stoicist films in human history ❤️
The way Ali interviews reminds me of Inside the Actors studio too bad he only gets a short time to interview them but nevertheless his interviews are satisfying.
Gary oldman was born to play mr churchill
brilliant portrayal
genius.. and lovely
If I could choose a role of Gary, that would be his Norman Stansfield's role from the movie Leon the professional because of his famous where he says EVERYONE. On his performance in Darkest hour, after winning an Oscar; does he deserve to be named Sir Gary Oldman?
Has he ever done a bad role? We are so lucky to have him.
I love this man but i will always see Sirius and the Commissioner
It took an Englishman to teach everyone how to win an Oscar hands down, without vile language, guns, violence, rape, drug usage.
It's more like how to win one without playing physically disabled, mentally challenged, psychopath criminal, terminally ill, gay or alcoholic roles. The lead actor category is the worst: from 1988 on, lead actor Oscar went to those roles 9 years in a row. Another five since 2008.
Jeff Green World War II isn't violent content?
bless up reznov
I’m so jealous of this man getting to interview the greats.
Superb actor. Superb interviewer. If Charlie Rose still had a job, I'd suggest he take notes.
Basically I'd give a kidney to see Gary Oldman play The Greasy Strangler
Chamelion actor
5:23 Lost but won
I did like to see reaction of ppl if an autobiography of Hitler wins Oscar, where he is being protrayed as a hero
There is a story about Churchill. He was at a party and was quite drunk. He went up to a female guest and blurted out, "Are you ever ugly!"
She replied, "Sir, you are drunk."
He answered, "Yes madam, but in the morning, I won't be drunk, but you will still be ugly."
Not a very nice man.
TV killed Finns who only published translated statements. It would be nice to see a remake of "Päämaja" (1970). You know, the old Marshal was 77yo and drank vodka for breakfast.
Noice. 👌✌️
They went from churchill to may ...... His rolling over his grave
Why is there 5 comments altogether but it says there is 7 comment
CZcams 👌👌👌
Mike Pence traveled back in time to sit behind Winnie in Congress.
his churchill sounds like a Droopy impression
RandomGeekNamedBrent can’t be unheard!
Y'all never consider... Maybe the original Droopy, was just a Churchill impression.
+boatrat74 Well, Droopy did first appear in 1943 - after Churchill. ;-)
Apparently though, he's based on a radio character that was voiced by the same actor.
Could've replaced his voice with a deeper one, which Winnie had...
isn't there technology which can deepen an actors voice?
Kinda weird with Gary's voice lmao
05:54...regrettably yes, right now when the threat to the United Kingdom is not external, but the real threat that could break up the country is internal, the Tory party and its No Deal brexit.
1st
too shoooooooooort
Churchill may be a great man for british people but he was a murderer who let 40000 bengali die in drought , Gandhi ji requested him to lower the taxes and provide them needful support but he refused that .... People of india were dying and soldiers of Churchill were busy in collecting taxes from those people . If you don't believe it please google it .
Grumpy oldman who was born in a bad mood
