I worked at a publication covering the marketing industry and you cannot understand how much "silence, brand" got under their skins. They HATED it.

They were saying use of "silence, brand" was abusive. That it was putting down their years of training and expertise. That the brand's voice was their voice. That they felt silenced. That it was robbing other users of joy etc.
Totally batshit. But a good 75% of that room was nodding like someone was relating their horrific experience escaping the killing fields.
That DiGiorno tweet actually tanked the company's stock value for a little while. Imagine being that social media manager. Imagine doing your job so badly in one moment that the entire board of directors learns your name.

When companies go to conferences, they sometimes offer raffles for gifts or days out - just leave your business card in a bowl when you visit the booth. Except that they'll sort them at the end and find the people in higher positions, closer to the field they needs, and then choose from those at random.
I see no reason they can't do this with internet polls. In fact I'm seeing more whete they nominate ten or so and let the public vote in the next stage. It's not as funny for everyone else, but the company doesn't choose between shutting it down or naming the product "Hιtler Did Nοthing Wrοng."
