    Thanks for the video Chris! The Sirius 35DS is my lotto boat. I love the huge space in 35ft, not to mention the “owners” cabin. Looking forward to your series on the DSs and some possible negatives compared with traditional mono hulls. Is there a budget DS? How do DSs compare to Cats? Material for future videos . . . 😁

    Love that Sirius 40 DS. Even compared to the Moody 41 DS. Main reasons are German build quality, 3 cabin layout, variety of keel configurations, and classic, sort of, look. The Moody 41DS is a little less expensive and looks kinda too fat for my taste. I do like the bullworks height but moving around under way in bad weather is probably unnecessary on either vessel. As for the interior, the Sirius seems safer to move around in with better grab safety. I’d prefer the sail boat look over the floating apartments look. I do like the forward helm station on the Moody.

      @@rickylefleur2158 I think you’re right, but I’m not sure that matters. I’ve watched several videos of Sirius, including the one featured in this video, and the thing that stands out is the volume of living area for a 35 footer, and many other aspects. And from the comments on those videos, finding any Sirius DS yachts for sale is like finding a unicorn.

    I'm curious how these deck saloon's boats handle taking a wave over the stern in a following sea. A lot of cats have a step at the threshold to keep water on the cockpit from entering the saloon. I didn't see this on the Moody 41ds. nice video.

    As others have mentioned, windage is a concern. Thrusters can be overwhelmed and fail at the worst times. I had a Kadey Krigen Whaleback and loved the room and view up high but windage was crazy bad. How is the ride in the saloon in confused seas when you're up so high?

  • @larkangel6593
    @larkangel6593 Před 2 lety +1

    Another nice presentation Chris
    I watched the most recent Sirius video, but to my dismay the (German) CEO started talking about on board 'green' energy systems like solar and wind vanes
    That's a private peeve of mine, so at that point I began dismissing everything else he had to say, including the 35DS they were sailing

    • @larkangel6593
      @larkangel6593 Před 2 lety +1

      I'll touch very briefly on what I mean - there's tons of good information for interested readers
      In a nutshell, green or renewable energy is a pipe dream. Among those who know the truth, some cross over to the dark side and act like PT Barnum
      Subsidies, grants, govt financing, PR marketing games, it's all out there for savvy gamesters preying on the gullible public

    • @larkangel6593
      @larkangel6593 Před 2 lety

      The truth is, there are only two dependable, consistent, high concentration sources, but they are both non renewable and run counter to the popular narrative: petroleum/gas and nuclear.
      That's OK however; while the public is diverted, real policy decisions are being made that recognize these truths
      Nuclear/gas will power continue to power the electrical grid, while petrol/diesel will continue to power long haul transport

    • @larkangel6593
      @larkangel6593 Před 2 lety

      By that I mean diesel for trucks (except urban battery powered recharged from yhe grid), electro diesel locomtive trains, and diesel powered shipping
      sailboats will continue to have direct drive deisel engine props, as well as on board generators or auxiliary petrol portable gensets

    • @larkangel6593
      @larkangel6593 Před 2 lety

      If you have any questions about solar, I'd first look into core issues like cabling, controllers, voltage drop, (panel) positioning, efficiency, batteries and charge rate disparities
      Of course I didn't even mention nighttime, clouds, sails, grime, etc preventing collectors operating in the first place

    I really like the Jeanneau 42DS but... There had to be a BUT. The stepped seats in the cockpit bother the heck out of me. Why did they do that? Just looks uncomfortable. But even with that "defect" I would still consider getting one as everything else about the boats is really nice.

  • @CaptRR
    @CaptRR Před 2 lety +1

    Got to wonder though if you are paying the premium for a boat with a deck Solon it seems like you would just go all in and go with a cat. I mean if you are playing in the price point already you can probably afford the extra cost of running a cat.

    Text salons totally destroy your forward vision from the cockpit so if you like sailing from your cockpit forget it. This is apart from all the extra windage making things uncontrollable in a Marina and slowing you down. Not to mention but ugly. They are really motorsailers unless they are very big

      A lot more modern vessels are coming with bow and even stern thrusters ....so i cannot see the windage issue being that valid and solar arches, Dingy's on davits Dodgers and weather tight enclosures are as bad if not worse.

    • @Fenris1Dark
      @Fenris1Dark Před rokem

      @ABC gang The pronunciations are typically from old English coastal dialects and some Norse, not French. Though English itself built heavily on Frankish, Norman, and Germanic languages originally, and there was some common inheritance for saloon and salon in French, the strange pronunciations and spelling are more recent than that. The Brits still use saloon to refer vehicles where a closed body is separated from where the vehicle operator sits. (A sedan’s trunk).. which is also the boot 😁. Botswain… svein, Viking for servant. But pronounced so poorly, it could only have come from poor English sailors. Language is fun. With two o’s though, there is no case of saloon being pronounced salon except by those who do not know any better.
