Classic Game Room reviews the TURBO TOUCH 360 controller for the Super Nintendo from Triax, a controller that replaces the d-pad with a futuristic touch pad for your SNES enjoyment!! Play Super Nintendo videogames like Super Mario World, Super Metroid, Realm and Super Mario Kart without a d-pad using the magic powers of the Turbo Touch 360 aftermarket gamepad for SNES. - Zábava
I love the turbo touch! The d pad never wears out like the regular controller, and you get used to it
I had one of these back in the day and I absolutely loved it. Didn't take long to adjust to the touch pad.
Realm? Realm?! Lord Karnage, do you have any idea the favor you just did me? I saw screenshots for this game years ago in Nintendo Power but forgot the title. I asked around online with the best descriptions I could make and no one knew what I was talking about! You, sir, have solved a problem that has been making me crazy and for that I am extremely grateful. Okay, so maybe not grateful enough to give you my copy of Shantae for GBC or Giana Sisters DS, but still grateful.
I won’t play action games on a touch screen ever, but I remember being pleasantly surprised by this controller. This was superior to touch screen because of the shape of the d-pad not being flat you could tell where your thumb was on it, and superior to a normal d-pad because it was easier and tireless to use.
Just finished a 2 lbs bag of Twizzlers! They didn't last nearly as long as I expected, but I find them to be a valuable gaming tool. Great review as always Mark!
I bought this thing back in the day thinking it would turn me into a Street Fighter 2 master, allowing me to do spinning pile drivers with Zangief left and right. Man, was I disappointed.
I had one of these back in the day. I might not have it anymore. Time to rummage through my old gaming stuff!
Say what you will about this controller, I loved it. It made Super Mario Kart so much better to control the steering. I never did use the turbo features though. It also worked well with The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. I used to pass around my other, regular controllers to my friends so I could use this one. It might not be the best for every game but it worked well with what I had.
Man, I remember seeing ads for this controller way back in GamePro and EGM.
It released in 1993. this was advertised multiple times on EGM issues between 1993-1994.
I had this controller for the NES and it helped save my thumb from getting blisters during childhood Megaman marathons
The textures on the touchpad look like they could give your thumb blisters ... maybe.
Love the review man.
So this is how they got the inspiration for the Steam controller..
Nice, recording you playing the game while recording the game its self and recording the game being recorded at the same time. TRIPLE INCEPTION!!!!
I love classic game room!
That controller was really an update of the NES Max for NES. With somehow help make all the modern controllers today.
Wow, I remember this controller!!
Is that a steam controller?
Yes. Yes it is.
Holy crap! I forgot all about these, but I had one! ...And it sucked. My friends would always fight over who got the regular SNES controller since no one wanted the Turbo Touch 360.
Nice review didn't know there us one for the snes also first
I had the Turbo Touch 360 on my NES back in the day. Agreed that nothing beats the original but I didn't mind this controller for some of the games where your thumb gets sore from jamming the d-pad all day long.
I had a flashback when I saw the thumbnail! I know I've once played with this controller as a kid, sometime, somewhere, and that I didn't like it.
Triax sent me one of the NES TT 360 controllers, I tried it one time, and then went back to my classic stock D-pad!
XD love the intro in this gen of cgr i said the whole think before mark said it
oh wow i actually remember those! :D
2:35 I bet melee's in that GameCube to the right. Sweet, sweet melee
Had one of these as a kid and hated it immediately. It's like trying to play games on your phone nowadays. Gotta have those buttons. Also, I feel sorry for the print shop who had to print that massive gaudy logo on the thing. Looks like it would've been a nightmare in a production run.
Holy nuts! I owned the Sega version of this for about 2 days before it got returned.. for sucking butts. A memory I had long forgot. Thanks for returning said memory, it was missed.
I just saw the 90s commercial for this and just had to find a video review.
I think the idea was to give analog feel to a handheld controller, mainly for fighting games like Street Fighter II and Mortal Kombat. I can't imagine playing any games that require really precise movement, like shooters or platformers, but when it comes to forward crescent rolls and such on SFII, this controller was not half bad.
Now Mark needs to review the NES version of the Turbo Touch 360.
minecraft faggot1337 Yes.
Yep I've owned one since I was a kid, and got it as a cheaper replacement controller from Walmart for $10(cheap parent who said this one is cheaper then an official controller, make it work, and you are not getting another one) after one of my dogs got a hold of the cord on one of my original controllers. I made myself get use too it so much so, that for a long time I had a hard time going back to a normal NES pad. But I tried again a few days during a family game night after not having used it for years to play some RC Pro Am, Blades of Steel, and TecmoBowl, and it just felt weird, and took some time to get use too again, but Mark is right it does not do much of anything better then a normal NES controller besides being more comfortable, and having the turbo buttons which can come in handy for something like LifeForce, or Tiger Heli.
I was sent this controller free from the manufacturer back in the day, before it's official release. They wanted my opinion on the controller. I then traded it in to Funcoland or some other game store for credit.
All commentary about feel and size aside, I'd bet that if you looked at the circuit board it's probably little different from the OEM SNES controller, like how the NES Max was mostly the same as an NES controller with some bypass circuit paths for the turbo function to work. Nice to know it isn't total garbage, though. Thanks for the review!
I had that (and I think I still have it) for the Sega Genesis!
inspiration for the steam controller
im sure many of us would be happy if mark bring back 2011's cgr opening
no, not cuz this new one is bad
it just
there's something about 2011's intro that defines cgr
n also damn catchy n look at the intro ur already know the review is epic
Where can I get an SNES Twizzlers pad?
in the candy aisle in a store, or a alleyway.
The predecessor to the steam machine controller.
This is the perfect Pit Fighter controller.
I notice that London Ontario is checked off on your map there. What did you receive from there?
They actually made one for the NES too.
About the same though, except it has 2 more buttons for rapid fire rather than switches.
Which version of the Power Rangers fought Triax?
I remember trying one of these back in the day. Maybe it was a defective model, but I couldn't get it to register unless I pressed so hard I thought I'd break the thing.
Wait the twizzler fix didn't work?
Man Mark you got MAJOR problems with your hardware...
Then what happens when we try to shove a bar of soap into an NES then?!
Do we signal the space arcade?!
Wait you want Cosmic Carnage's glory to impact and destroy the earth FASTER?!
Oh god, the memories of that controller.... ugh.
Had the controller but it didn't work too well with some of the games. Brought it to master the Street Fighter 2 and Super Street Fighter 2 games on the SNES.
The problem with the turbo touch controller is you don't get any zero push hit and no any feedback. So it's hard to tell if you have pull your finger far away from it, because sometimes i accidentally walk into a gaps or against enemy's, so it's hard to with it BUT it adds a new way of challange to your games.
Does this controller works with the xbox 360?
I used d-pads so much that they made my thumbs hurt and I grew callouses on my left thumb, so I can kinda see what they were going for with this product.
Unfortunately, if you've ever hated touch screen control on a tablet or smartphone, then you're gonna hate this as well.
I have nothing to add here except that I owned the Genesis version and probably used it three times before returning it to the store.
I had a Turbo Touch for the NES and liked it quite a bit. Probably because the standard NES controller was so uncomfortable to hold for long periods.
"Turbo Touch 360 is interesting... if you have giant hands" HA HA HA HA LMAO
I'm pretty sure the concavity of those buttons is backwards. The Y and X buttons should be concave and the B and A convex.
I can kinda understand why this controller was made. Games like Mdgaman, Contra and Street Fighter can be really taxing on the thumb with how demanding they were on the D-pad so a controller that allows a person to operate the d-pad but with less wear on the thumb is in theory a good thing. But perhaps if it had some bumps and grooves on it so that the user can know which direction is which purely by touch then they could have been onto a winner.
+unstoppableExodia It had grooves.
I had one of these for the Genesis. On the one hand, it was my only turbo controller. On the other hand, it was terrible.
A good friend of mine used to be amazing in Killer Instinct using one of these. Yet he would suffer with a real pad.
what do you use to record gameplay???
Ohmygod I had this thing as a kid and really hated it compared to the original controller, and so did most of my friends who came to play over.
Replacing the SNES controller is like using A1 sauce on prime rib. It just doesn't need it.
I remembered how they kept advertising the crap outta this controller back in the day.
so how do you get the super Nintendo controller with the famicom colored buttons? Is that for the famicom? even though it says super Nintendo... or did it just come out later
The European SNES has the Super Famicom design on the console and controller. It might be a European controller.
Only America got the ugly box design. Everywhere else got the same design as the Japanese Super Famicom.
I've always wondered why the uglified it for the American market, but never found a definite answer.
My job is done. Was looking forward while watching the video to see this comment. Made my day, thank you! I knew there's still someone who didn't know how European Super Nintendo looks like.
i got myself a super famicom controller off ebay for pretty cheap, but the cord was like 3 feet long so i had to swap the cord with a US SNES controller. fortunately the cord actually has a plug inside the controller so it was easy to swap.
I actually do not mind these controllers, they take some getting use to and probably are not suitable for any game but they are interesting.
I've found the d-pads on more recent controllers and recent recreations of old controllers rather stiff, and diagonals are sometimes irritatingly hard to do.
I think a game like Realms which has diagonal movement/shooting is a great example of when these controllers make sense.
Twizzlers are great
I have one of these for the Genesis - but it's black with a yellow pad.
+King Game Review He made a review for the Genesis one.
am I the only person who LIKED this controller growing up?
Now I want Twizzlers. Dangit.
I'm convinced that Twizzlers are an acquired taste as well.
I don't know about you guys but for me, any Twizzler I've ever had, tastes like putty that just so happens to have a (I use this word very loosely) flavor and that flavor is never enough to save it from being a complete and utter disappointment. :l
Valve is coming out with a similar concept for their steam box.
I have one for my NES and the D-Pad doesn't work.):
I have one of those!
I just want a SNES controller with an 8-way Dpad like what the Genesis uses.
So basically when you Look at the Turbo Touch 360 all you can see is a Touchscreen, and when you see that you go
*_YES_*
It's such a small world I'm from westbrook maine
I use the turbo touch 360 instead of the regular snes controller
had 2 of these but it was sega MD /G
It seems like a nice idea, but if the experience is anything like trying to use a virtual d-pad on a touch-screen, no wonder it's so unpopular.
+DeRosset Myers That's why you can't play fast paced roms on emulator apps. RPGs work fine, though.
Troll Breaker Are those textures on the pad embossed or just flat-printed?
***** Embossed.
Troll Breaker Okay, thanks.
Vc mordeu o controle ?
The A and B buttons are concave for some reason.
It's like turbografx, iPod touch and the xbox 360 had a kid
I live in Maine!
So it's the Steam controller?
Triax huh? Wonder if Palladium will try to sue them.
But it can move objects on the screen as fast as I can move my finger! The guy dressed as it in the commercial said so!
Sorry Lord Karnage, but you obviously don't game that much. No only did the smooth d plate remove the painful thumb burns that you got when playing intense fighting games during marathon sessions with your friends and family, but with the switches in the middle you could spam the hell out of the buttons for shooter games as well as fighting games. The plate and the switches made all the difference.
long overdue review
That thing sucks. My two favorite controllers of all time are the SNES and GameCube
Is that the same Triax as the one who makes satellite dishes?
was cool yo
westbrook maine :) i live in skowhegan maine.. i use to work at the pizza hut in westbrook when i was 19 haha.. good times.. its freezing here now tho. lol

i am
sick
depraved
and a fucking sex lunatic
I believe that there's one for the NES as well. Check Ebay if you don't believe me.
***** How is it with Super Street Fighter?
It looks like Triax stole that idea from the Steam controller before they went back in time.
It look like the sega octagon ring thing
I wonder how Gyruss would play with a controller like that...
I wish the PS4 controller had this.
CZcams Content ID Match: Twizzlers, we demand you send it to CZcams HQ or face a ban.
I think turn touch works with pseudo 3d movement of some SNES games.
It's no nice that your SNES doesn't have any yellowing plastic.
Greetings from Spain. I had this gamepad when I was young and I can say that... it's garbage. Best regards.
Twizzlers all new video game controller !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's the Steam controller's grandpa!
+Sam Sales That's exactly what I was thinking.
