Classic Game Room reviews the NEC PC-ENGINE TURBO DUO video game console from 1991. The PC-Engine Duo plays standard PC-Engine Hu Cards and Super CD-Rom games, giving you two video game systems in one! Known as the TurboGrafx-CD in the West, this remarkable game system is similar to the Sega Genesis and Sega-CD attachment except there's even more space ship shooters available!!! - Zábava
Hey Mark! I'm really happy that you decided to move the channel back here on CZcams. I've been subscribed to the channel for two years now and I just wanted to say that I always look forward for reviews of video games, consoles, toys and sometimes bananas to start my day! Keep up this awesome content. I really enjoy this channel so much!
Making the PC Engine itself into a playable character was genius.
Always fun to watch your videos. There is so much eye and ear candy enjoyment watching your stuff. Keep it up please.
Your show brings a good balance of humor and info. Cheers!
PC-ENGINE
What a name for console
Considering that Nintendo's first home console after the Color TV Game series was literally called the Family Computer, I'm not surprised. From what I can tell, a lot of Japanese video game consoles were referred to as specialized PCs in Japan, which is pretty amusing considering the western idea of consoles and PCs being two separate entities.
@@VinchVolt is that why Japan doesn't care for PC gaming?
@@GiordanDiodato Oh, actually that's just because living space in Japanese homes and apartments is very restrictive compared to in the US, and dedicated gaming PCs tend to involve pretty bulky rigs that take up what Japanese gamers see as unnecessary extra space.
Awesome review! Love the TurboDuo!
I noticed your loaner PCE Duo had an LED mod on the CD tray. Looks great! :)

OMG I can't believe it. You actually managed to insert the cartrdige/card in the proper console for once.
Man these videos are great. Literally the most zen thing on youtube. Also you remind me of david rees.
That looks pretty sweet, and the music and sound fx sound great too. I wonder why these weren't more popular.
I always like his reviews.. he reminds of that back to the future era... Even thou now we look back at that time with that wannabe future technologies. They are still cool. Like back to future series..you still watch it. He brings back that time. Thumbs up buddy. I hope you continue and earn good money doing this.
the Characters in Star Parotia remind me of BomberMan
Ohya, great to see more TG/PCE love!
This may be my favorite background music CGR has used.
Of all the consoles I've never owned, I always wanted this one the most. This would look awesome sitting next to a JVC X'Eye.
Did you get it?
Proud owner of a X'eye. While the library of the mega-cd suck, it's nice to have a system that is capable of playing megadrive as well as genesis cards without modding.
I love marks t-shirt, it's awesome!
Love to see a review done of Akumajou Dracula X: Chi No Rondo for this system. Or as it's otherwise known, Castlevania X: Rondo Of Blood!
love this music so calming
you could do the voice overs on 'The Price is Right'! You really have a knack for describing products.

The Turbo Graffix was a 16-bit console, around the mid/end of the NES cycle.
CGR is love!
Great system, great video.
I think the turbo cd had someslight improvements like extra ram and multi scrolling background, wich was only possible on the original system trough ram expansion and DMA acces.
I finally got one of these back in my collection the other day after a sad sell-off a few years ago. My old one was a US model, but this Japanese one I have now has had its capacitors and laser both replaced so it should last a long time. The CD part is region free so I think I got a better setup anyway. Alongside my USA TurboGrafx-16 which plays USA HuCards, I also now have the option of buying Japanese HuCards to play on my Japanese Duo. And when it comes down to market success and failure in the past, I think what made/broke this system in its respective regions was the game library. While there were plenty of good US releases available (IMO the US CD library has more good than bad out of the 44 or so titles), there were so many great games that only got released in Japan. The high price tag also probably discouraged some gamers in the USA too. The same reason I didn't get a Sega CD or 32X for my Genesis until I managed my own gift money in high school, years after it was discontinued. Whose parents bought them a TurboGrafx-16? I assume most TurboGrafx-16 owners were adults or teens who bought them themselves.
Man, that's one hell of a donation. PC Engine Duo? That's at least a $500 console right there. At least.
he said it was on loan at the end of the video.
Only a boxed turbo-duo would cost $500.00 it's japanese counter part,go's for way less.
I need this machine in my life!
Does this mean we're going to get a proper review of Castlevania: Rondo of Blood?
My favourite game on this system
CGR MADNESS!
I want more Mark.
There are sooooo many great games on the PCE CD
Play em on my phone all the time with a bluetooth controller.
Lords of Thunder and Gates of Thunder are awesome shumps on this system.
Great machine, all versions of it.
Awesome thanks 👍
I have a Turbografx with 3 games. None I'm really interested in playing but I do want a cd attachment just for Castlevania. Man those cd attachments are no joke when it comes to cost
Can you mood the US duo to play pc engine imports? I'd like to play some Japanese only shmups like sapphire (probably have to get a bootleg for that one...) and Castlevania Rondo of Blood.
Much love
I love this show
Some of the best 8bit/18bit shumps every made exist only for this system, for instance, Gate of Thunder.
You had me at *_IN SPAAAAAAAAAAACE_*

Oh, that is too bad.
Sad that you don't make these videos anymore Mark
The voice in that Insanity game sound exactly like CATS from "All Your Base Are Belong To Us."
Can anybody recommend a good AV switcher for the PC Engine Duo? For games with composite video I plug them into a switcher so that I can switch between them. For whatever reason, the PC Engine Duo won't cooperate with the switcher. There ia always noise in the video when I connect it into a switcher. It only looks clean when plugged directly into the AV ports on my DVD recorder or HDMI adapter.
I miss these days of CGR
Man I would really like to get myself a turbo grafx system soon but for now I will just play the games on my psp 3001 which is actually pretty much like playing a turbo grafx express but better.
I love how he compares everything to the sega genesis. He can be trying a new type of beer and be like, it's good but it's no sega genesis.
This was hands-down the best gaming show ever made. And your observation is exactly why. It’s the little things 😁
Cool, thanks does this have better sound and graphics than the PC Engine CD add on and SNES?
How about the AES?
Thank you.
God bless, Proverbs 31
Average price on ebay for a good, working Turbo Duo console alone is around $260-300 USD,There is a mint condition, in box, unopened for $4,500 (Nov 14,14)!
I'm eating some ridged potato chips whilst watching this review.
It's nice to know at least a lot of PC engine games have gotten collection releases. But what about the games I don't know about?
PC Engine master race!
You should review Soldier Blade!
hi Lord Karnage, I have a Japanese Turbo Duo, can you help me on the power adapter?
It comes with one, can I use that one on US outlets?
or know how could I get one that works?
I have the core II not sure what the difference is? they look the same just the printed grafx are orange not blue,, Still havnt been able to find a cd add on for a reasonable price though..:-(
How are you guys receiving games and consoles if your in space?
Does the wind squid deliver it?
Once day I shall upgrade to a Duo, very hard to get in working condition at a wallet friendly price though :(
I always thought the turbo graphics 16 was such a cool name for a game console
OH MY GOD
I JUST REALIZED
You look a hell of a lot like Nathan Fillion
is this what the PC master race are going on about?
Insanity looks like Berserk with Samus as the main character...
My Taiwanese bro had these in new zealand in the 90s no one had one was amazing to play save me so much money instead of arcades
Could you do a last Play Station Home review now that is shutting down forever?
ITS BOMBERMAN!
I don't have the duo, but do have the Turbografx with Turbo CD attached. Both have a great library of games, many of which are unique. Splash Lake is one I strongly recommend. How often do you get to play as an overweight ostrich with no legs?
I love your channel man.
god damn..i lolled so fucking hard at insanity and its crazy music lol...
dem beats
The Japanese TurboGrafx.
I want that shirt!!!!!!!!
What's that the same as the turbo grafix 16?
Pc console master race
This guy!
So what's the difference between the tg-16, the turbo duo, and the PC engine?
+beefcurtainz69 The TurboGrafx 16 was launched in 1989 along with the Genesis and uses only the huCard game cards. The Turbo Duo was released in 1992 and combined the TurboGrafx 16 with the previously released TurboGrafx CD. So, basically it was the same console but with both consoles combined into one unit.. The PC Engine is just the Japanese version of the TurboGrafx 16. That's what it was called in Japan. Hope that helps.
"CGR lives on"
*cries*
The CD side of the Duo is region free, but the Hu Card side is not.
I. WANT. THAT. SHIRT!!!!!!
Retro misses his turbo graphicx 16 and Cd attachment I had some odd systems as a kid
lol this video doe i miss my Nintendo 64 :(
dam i have a extra one sorry i been lazy havent sent that link also sick and kind of bummed out hard to do things when your sad if you look at some of the messages i sent you on hang out the link to the intor is there
Hey, I've just noticed that you told somethign wrong in your mini review. The PC-Engine Turbo Duo does NOT use the same Cables as the Sega Genesis Model 1!. Only if you mod it it does, but in the original version it doesn't. Just try it out it won't fit!.
Insanity = Berzerk
listen, once i can afford a ticket to space, will you be running a galactic arcade up there?
Bomberman turned into a space shooter.
Insanity looks an awful lot like Berzerk. I wonder if it's as good.
isnt this the character from bomberman
best console. gunhead, last ninja, motor roader, genjin, multi-tap, etc etc
did it have street fighter 2?
I think the Spot for the best console ever belongs to the Ps2
no way , dram cast
GUNHED!!!
(aka "Blazing Lasers")
Shadow Heart OK, 2nd best... ;)
This is seaman. Do game reviews !
Is this the only 8-bit system with a CD-ROM drive?
@Michael Higgins Thank you, I think.
@Michael Higgins Yes I know, but we tend to refer to a system based on its CPU so it is an 8-bit system. Also, not sure the term GPU existed before the Geforce 256. :p Thanks for your replies. :)
I wonder how much his light bill cost lol alot of arcades
You don't get bills in space.
Solar power....son
I want one so bad....
Me too bro, me too :(
I-is that Bomberman..? I-it is! :D
i wonder if it will play games like MOLE
It looks like a CD-I combined with an original Playstation. lol
Is that an S-video port on the side?
jmatt781 No, it's the A/V out. A lot of people mod the system to put outputs on the back instead (a cable coming out the side gets in the way of a lot of setups).
Did these consoles come out in the UK?
No ):
Turbografx did but it had a limited release
Man! The PC Engine Duo looks identical to the american Turbo Duo!
***** That's only what's different!
+Jordan Mattes not really, the buttons are black on the turboduo instead of purple on the pc engine duo
***** yes, i have a question regarding these consoles, what's the best affordable of these consoles? the turboduo is very expensive (U$250 or more) and the pc engine duo i saw it for U$200 with 1 controller, the original box and all the cables with shipment included from Japan. But there's a problem, the pc engine japanese games are much more expensive than the turbografx 16 games, and also the turbografx 16 is more affordable, but getting it a cd attachment maybe very expensive also.
***** yep a guy offered me a pc engine coregrafx modded region free with controllers for $100, pc engine cd is worthless because of the insane prices, other thing casltlevania sotn for the saturn is around $100, why so fucking expensive?
***** yeah, earthbound is a common game, i don't like the game at all, but it's so fucking expensive
You know there is such a thing as a TurboDuo for the West. It must not have been available in your area or you may not know much about retro consoles
#PCEngineMasterRace
Is it Region free?
i like CGRundertow better, you should get them doin console reviews as well (more views right?)
Dreamcast 15th anniversary video
Isnt that bomberman?
Finslly PC gamers can finally play true console games
PC engine cartidge can be broke easily because of them using thin card that can bend.
