Which one should you buy? 2023 Toyota TUNDRA TRD Pro or 2023 Toyota TACOMA TRD Pro?

  • In this video I provide an in-depth comparison between my personal 2023 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro and my sister’s newly purchased 2023 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro. Both are remarkable trucks in their own right… both serve two different purposes. One can comfortably fit a family while the other can comfortably fit down a trail. One has a great turning radius and the other doesn’t lol. One is riddled with creature comforts and tech and the other simplistic to its core.
    I love both trucks. Crazy to think there’s a $20K price gap between the two now days. I’m excited to include my 4Runner TRD Pro and Sequoia TRD Pro into the mix!
    Which is your favorite and why?
    Thanks for watching as always!

    I keep telling myself I’d like a Tacoma but the older I get the more the Tundra just makes sense. I want to off road but nothing crazy. (So I say now) but I also want to be able to use it for work stuff, futures family, towing, etc. I think Toyota KILLED IT with the new Tundra exterior AND interior!! (Coming from a Chevy guy here)

    I enjoy off-roading and personally I would pick the Tacoma, I already have the glorious 15 tundra as a family hauler and work truck. King shocks on my tundra is a game changer, on the little Tacoma it would be amazing

    I had a '21 Tacoma (6 speed), now have a '23 Tundra. I really liked my Tacoma. However... (there's always a however, right?) The engine was anemic. The 3.5 V6 will probably run for nearly ever. But, the fake Atkinson cycle is mind boggling (and the fuel economy sucks anyway). I wish the Tacoma were 3 inches longer, with the extra space going into the rear seat leg room. That plus a new engine would make the thing amazing. That said, I love my Tundra so much more than the Tacoma. The iForce Max is insane. I took a short trip in town and got 27 MPG, haha. That was definitely not the normal case. But it can happen apparently. If I couldn't have gotten the Tundra, I would have been perfectly fine keeping the Tacoma. Still one of the best looking trucks ever made.

      You hit the nail on the head about the taco engine. I can’t wait to get rid of my 3rd gen because of it. Yes it might be reliable but it’s just a pos to drive on a daily basis. Tundra is too expensive for me and probably wouldn’t fit in my garage. I’ll either wait for the turbo taco or go with one of the gm twins turbo.

    There’s no denying these are two great looking trucks and both at the top of their game. But I don’t think we’re comparing apples to apples, which is obvious. And if I were doing long road trips, I would want the big tundra but I think on off-road trails it would get scratched up pretty good by the brush because it’s so wide. When I put the Trd Pro Tacoma next to the Trd off-road special, I just don’t see the pro being worth the extra money. If you take the money you save, you can buy exactly the upgrades you want on the off-road and basically won’t have what I would call a better rig but it would be more of the personal upgrades the owner would want. Bottom line I think anybody that owns either one of these rigs are going to be pretty happy 😊

    • @nikotal.4282
      @nikotal.4282 Před rokem

      I bought the pro version of Tacoma, so I don't need to modify anything and get the best version of Tacoma straight from the factory with the warranty. Toyota solved all the problems with the lift, i don't need to think about alignments, needle bearing, TSS alignment, or safety issues, or warranty. It is a very reliable option... I don't really understand the Offroad idea. People who buy the trd offroad can't get the money back they paid for the upgrades when they trade the vehicle in. It is still considered a lower-trim truck, even if you installed all the pro upgrades.

      @Westcoastplinkin655 I care so does the OP, since he asked. Also, the torque is terrible for any truck related activities such as towing and hauling (to a lesser degree). Putting a v6 from a minivan into a truck is a poor move. That said, I liked my tacoma.
      Moving on to the tundra. Sales figures are way up compared to the v8. It was a gas guzzler. People don't keep their trucks long enough, in general, to care if they go 500k miles. Sure, some do. But toyota is in the business to sell cars. I got the 8 year warranty with mine, it'll be fine. Plus, I have much better performance and MPG than the old V8.

    • @westcoastplinkin6559
      @westcoastplinkin6559 Před rokem

      @@Snappydadshoes Well some people don't look at vehicles as phones and upgrade every couple of years. I don't want a vehicle that is not going to be reliable and constantly going to be in the shop. Even if the warranty takes care of it, it's an inconvenience. I've been reading a lot about the new Tundras having all kinds of issues left and right. And while the warranty may cover it, it would be a nightmare to have to deal with that. Toyota sells RELIABLE vehicles, that is what their reputation is based on. I hope the new Tundra lives up to the Toyota reliability standards, but I don't think it will. It will do more harm to the reputation which is worse than the profits they will make off the sales. 1st and 2nd Generation Tundras are bullet proof. I love the new size of the Tundra but that engine is a hard pass. Even if it puts more power than my 5.7L V8, in the end reliability is the most important factor for a lot of people. That is why the Tacoma is still the best selling midsize truck, people are willing to overlook the lack of power to have a reliable dependable machine. And as for the towing and hauling, majority of mid size truck buyers are not towing or hauling ANYTHING that a Tacoma can't handle. If I needed to haul anymore more than a landscape trailer, I would've bought a Ram 2500.

      @Snappydadshoes Před rokem

      @@westcoastplinkin6559 Only people I know who "upgrade" their vehicles lease them. I don't. But I also don't drive them into the ground. I can tell you as someone who owns a new tundra with several thousand, trouble free miles on it, they're fine. Be careful what you read on the internet. There's a lot of sensationalism for attention and clicks. Toyota doesn't sell junk. Nearly every auto maker is switching to smaller displacement, turbo engines. It's just the fact of current EPA requirements. So long as they're well made, they're fine.
      If you don't like the tundra, cool. No one is making you like it. Plenty of V8 options out there. The old Tundra was a sales bomb compared to the rest of the market. Why keep it around if people only buy one every 10 years? Last year sales for the tundra went up 15% with the remodel. Guess toyota was right?
      But the Tacoma engine? LOTS of people hate it. I owned one and liked the vehicle, I still hated the engine. Yes, the Tacoma is the mid sized sales leader, at roughly 200k per year. Even with that, it's OK to note things that need improvement. You will not find one single reviewer that says the Tacoma engine is good. I saw you read my other post, I said I liked the vehicle and would happily have kept it. Doesn't mean it's a good motor. As for not "using" it for towing or hauling...why even buy a truck then? I haul allllll the time. With 1,000 pounds in the bed and going up a hill, that engine sucks. Towing 5,000 it was doable but it was terrible. I felt like I was going to smoke the clutch off the line because there zero torque on that engine. No getting around it.
      Next gen tacoma will most likely be a smaller displacement turbo and maybe offer a hybrid. Same as the tundra, just scaled down. What then? Don't buy that either?
