    A lot of the modern car features I can appreciate and understand why they changed but many changes like electric parking brake, electric lift gate, panoramic roof, big rims and low profile tires and many others. They keep trying to fix things that are not broken making the vehicle much more complicated and much much more expensive to maintain and repair!

    I went out and bought a 2022 SR utility package (no rear seats) 4 cylinder precisely because I wanted to get a taco before they changed it. I wanted simplicity and reliability above all else. I got 2022 because at that time we weren’t sure if the 2023 was going to be 4th gen.
    Either way I’m sure the 2023 is more expensive given inflation so I’m happy I bought sooner than later. I switched from a 2000 impala so to me the 3rd gen is like a spaceship compared to the tech I was used to.
    If you care about reliability get a new 3rd gen while you still can. Only time will tell if the 4th gen is going to be good.

    I just found your page. Thanks for your attention to detail & your review of all of the systems here. This is the most complete review that I've found so far. After logging almost 300,000 miles on my 2004 Tundra, LTD, TRD, Double Cab, 4.7 Liter V8 it has been a champ. All of the accessories still work, but it is suffering frame rot even though it was involved in the Tundra frame recall campaign a few years ago & was sand blasted & re-undercoated, it rusted from the inside-out. My mechanic won't put it on his lift anymore, so it's time to move it on. At 73, I'm over the "bells & whistles" phase of my life & just want economical, basic, durable, long lasting transportation, so I'm patiently awaiting the arrival of my 2023 Tacoma SR base level access cab, 6' bed, 3.7 liter, 4 cylinder, A/T truck. I chose the 4×4 drive because I live in the hilly Western Franklin County, Western Massachusetts at the base of the Birkshires. Your review has convinced me that I made the right choice. I also upgraded all the interior lights to LED as well ass the back up lights. I love this truck and how it looks so much.

    Love my 2021 (a Manual). I really appreciate this perspective (thanks) in this day of shark-tank like on-line ('please pay attention to me') commenting and submissions. I have the OR version with some of the key upgrades that bring the spec to the level of the Pro (exhaust and interior, with my own Bilstein 6112 and 5160 suspension with a 1" lift- keeping it close to daily driver-tude). Sometimes simpler is better if it is still a solid, quality build, and I have to say driving mine everywhere is really excellent. Lastly, I think worth noting is the relative ease of spec-ing them the way you may want. Thanks CCN!

The manual brake comes in handy when going offroad, descents or keep the truck from sliding back, or even on the boat ramp I use the manual break with 4 low when the ramp is steep or covered in slippery algae its like worse than ice. I agree about the knobs instead of levers for selecting 4 low or locking rear diff.. I think very very few still have it.. like the Brit made Deffender that has a manual levers for front and rear dif lockers. The reason I asked , is because I bought a 22 SR 2wd 2.7 in May of last year as a stop gap , when the frame of my 2002 Tundra's frame was done . It caught me so off guard and needing a vehicle , NOW!. And with used being within 3-4 K of New , and the 2wd being the only Taco on the lot . I bought it . I thought the salesman told me the base SR was the only Taco that came with a key , and . The BS " engine shut-off " was coming on all 2023 Taco's ?! I assume your SR5 has the " hold in " the CRUISE button , to select standard cruise control , as does my SR ?Thanks for the replay and the information about how yours " turns off " ... gubs

    Got a deposit down on a '23 TRD Off Road, picking it up in a couple months after it's built. I loved the look of the 3rd gen, and I hesitate to buy the first model of a new gen, especially with it being a completely new engine platform + turbos. I'll stick to the old school reliability of the old V6 and the last "old school" Tacoma. Can't wait to pick it up!

      They make a supercharger for the 3rd gen anyways, so who cares about the 4 banger turbo lol. It's an ugly truck imo, too boxy and techy for me. 3rd gen for me. It also looks like a Tundra, so why not just get a Tundra lol. Waiting on my '23 TRD OR as well btw.

      I have a 22 sr tacoma double cab v6. I'm thinking about trading the 22 in, and doing what you did and ordering a 23 trd off-road. I want the manual. I love the sr and its simplicity. It does feel old school, and despite what some people say, the v6 will last a long time because its internals are well made.

    I put a deposit down a couple of months ago on a TRD Sport with manual trans. Have been waiting for it to arrive at the dealer. One of the biggest complaints I have about modern cars is all the high tech stuff and computers that make them very expensive to repair when they break down. These are things that I can live without. After watching this and other similar TCCN videos, I am so glad. AMD, you are the Man. I've been binge watching your videos since last night.😊

    Really good review. In a lot of ways I think I picked the Tacoma over the Ranger because of the reliability and resale value. Overall the quality and design is good. I actually like the simplicity of the dash layout that to me blends a modern screen with classic gages. Large climate control knobs I can use with gloves on are excellent. The interior is actually very comfortable for a truck.
    I have a 2020 SR5 4X4. I still have an old school security chip key. I feel like with the power seat and the android auto it still feels modern enough for me. I really plan to keep mine a very long long time.

      Resale value is for Dealerships. You try trading it in, you’ll get a below blue book price then when they “resell” it, they get a good resale value.

    • @MrMikey1273
      @MrMikey1273 Před 11 měsíci +4

      @Mikey you're so brilliant! Of course if I trade it the dealership will make money they always do. Thats what trade in value is and why its a bit lower than retail. You such are such a genius. The other side of this you may not realize is the trade in value on a Tacoma is higher than many other vehicles, like a Chevy or Dodge. In these crazy economic times carfax has my trade in value at about what I paid retail in 2020. I know that these times are exceptional but past history is that tacomas hold value, both retail and trade in, well.

      I guess it depends on the kind of person you are. Some people trade their phones in every year. These “tech whores” are something I can’t relate to, not that I’m judging them. I kept my 2000 impala over twenty years and went to a 2022 taco.
      I cannot understand what state of the art features people are “needing” in their cars. We are becoming a nation of spoiled brats who don’t know how to experience anything other than maximum comfort and honestly that’s scary.

    • @MrMikey1273
      @MrMikey1273 Před 11 měsíci

      @CarlYota I understand that. I planned to keep my Tacoma for 10 years or more. My last vehicle I had for 12 years. Reliability is really important and care if you want to keep it a long time. We are good there. Resale well... I can't predict if I'm gonna get hit by some nimrod driver and my truck get totalled. At least the valve doesn't sink like a rock or a Kia. So I'll get more to put towards a replacement vehicle.

    • @theitechlab
      @theitechlab Před 11 měsíci +2

      Although I'm not someone who plans on selling my Tacoma after I get it, I still like knowing that it holds its resale value very well. If something happens financially and I need to sell the Taco in 5 years or something, I'll know that I'll end up with a bunch of equity out of the sale due to how well these hold value. On top of that, the reliability of Tacomas are incredible, especially in the later years of a generation. Either way I go (sell in 5-10 years or keep it till it dies), I'll be sitting pretty.

    Old is not always bad. As most know with new revisions of the Tacoma and 4Runner will have its reliable downside until the bugs are fixed. That’ll be after two years or so. I for one like it simple. Tried and true. That’s why I purchased my 4Runner last year before the new change.
