Hey I was wondering if it might be better to first mix the oils in with the coconut oil first, before mixing with the powders, for a more even mixture?
So it doesn't stain your clothes?
Is there an alternate ingredient? Bi carb gives me a rash. Or can I leave it out completely?
Yes, I have arrowroot starch. I was hoping you would use it. Also, if you use sodium bicarbonate, make sure it's aluminum free. But you can simply use Arrowroot starch by itself. It also works as a dry "shampoo". Since it absorbs oil.
hello....greeting from Indonesia here... I'm wondering if the product can be applied for us in this tropical country, we sweat more than people in Sweden of course🥵🤭😁...is there any ingredient should we add to prevent our sweats? thanks🙏🏼🥰
I became an herbalist some years back taking classes on line. I make all my own medicine, soaps, salves, teas, shampoos, laundry soap and lip balm. It is great you are doing this.
Can I have some? 😂 But for real, I think I need to start making my own as well.
Any advice for a natural cure for anxiety/tension?

I am an herbalist and have been for more than 40 years. Such a wonderful life. My Mom was also an herbalist; I was raised that way.
1/4 cup coconut oil
1/4 cup corn starch
4 tsp sodium bicarbonate
Thanks for taking notes!
@@gabriellahsdancingheart8808 I’ve done some research and experimentation with this recipe to make it less irritating. I add these ingredients: 1/4 cup cocoa butter, 1/4 cup zinc oxide, 2 Tbsp shae butter, and 2 Tbsp arrowroot powder. This makes a smooth white paste that is incredibly soothing.
THANK YOU!
Arrowroot powder is actually a fantastic substitute for sodium bicarbonate, also. Sodium bicarbonate (also known as baking soda) has a much higher PH level compared to your skin, whereas arrowroot powder is much closer to your skin's PH, making you less likely to break out :)
Yessss. I follow an electric alkaline lifestyle and when he mentioned arrowroot as an option, I was excited to hear.
Good to know!
I’ve used nothing but plain baking soda for many years. Works well, but is not consistent as far as smoothness for some reason. It can be any level of coarseness (and that’s not the refrigerator kind). It’s also messy on the sink or floor near where I use it.
I keep arrowroot in the house so will try that today!
I've been using leftover hands sanitizer that was so abundant during covid. Just a little dab under each armpit works perfectly. Been found this for most of a year with no Pettibone at all. The alcohol kills the bacteria in your Pits that causes the odor!
I made some with baking soda, burned my skin badly. So arrowroot is much safer.
@@trelawishon6582 hand sanitizers contain an endocrine disruptor.
TLDR: 03:20
1) Coconut Oil
2) Bicarbonate (is this same as baking soda?)
3) Corn or Potato Starch
4) Fragrant Oils (optional)
I think the most important info that should have been here is why or how it works.
I presume the coconut oil is the crucial ingredient due to its antibacterial properties, but I can imagine it's going to be slimy and unpleasant under there...
The scenes that went along with line “I’m not some kind of fairy” made me laugh so much 🤣
Haha 😂 Happy you liked it Zoë!
Me too! Lol
A few weeks ago, I made an easy toothpaste with coconut oil, baking soda and a small amount of salt. For flavor I used vanilla, cinnamon and clove essential oils.
I think baking soda and salt are abrasive
@@ZephiraBlanche They are both over the 70 abrasive score. Will eradicate your enamel.
Might as well get rid of the cloves oil and just used dried cloves, plus I’d add Turmeric powder instead of the salt and baking soda
@@graymadder4019 baking soda has an rda of 7. The max your teeth can handle is around 200
I use siwak/miswak stick, better than any toothpaste out there
In August I began using one cotton ball of apple cider vinegar and it works amazingly. Haven’t needed to wear deodorant since then. I reapply typically after each shower and it has changed my life!
Just apple cider vinegar? This is amazing. I'll try it.
@@290revolver290 yessss it really works
The smell isn't too strong?
@@gabriellahsdancingheart8808 if you wait a sec before you put your shirt on, it’s totally fine. The only time it’s a bit strong is if you put it on, it’s still fresh and then you put your shirt on right away and it gets on the clothes lol
I've been using baking soda + coconut oil for months now. No extra ingredients, and it works amazing! Much better than any store bought ever did. It works so well and never stinks like after regular deodorant. Highly recommend. No third ingredient needed for me at least. Might be different for each individual, idk.
Do you have a recipe for this, like how much baking soda and how much coconut oil? Also how did you make it, did you melt the coconut oil and then add baking soda to it and let it harden?
@@trevajana Hi there! I just put a bit of coconut oil into a small container, and the pour in the baking soda a bit at a time, at room temperature, and squish it with my fingers, until it becomes the desired consistency for deodorant. I just add baking soda until it "feels" right. Like some paste that's a bit more solid than liquidy if that makes sense.
And when I want to use it, I just scoop up a bit with my finger and rub it on my armpit. You really don't need much, and it's easy to carry around in a little mini jar or something in this state.
@@barpoe thanks so much. I’ll try it out. Hope it works!
That's what I use, works well. Don't use every day as long as I shower and wash my underarms every day I don't need it. BTW coconut oil used as a personal lubricant not only lubricates but also deodorizes female genatilia. Removing off putting odors and tastes.
😮"deodorizes female genatalia" !!!!
Female genatalia is not that disgusting !!
In fact, we do not need take a shower each day.
BUT, we do need wash 2 parts of our body each day : under arms and the intime zone: water, or water +soap, or water + floral water like salvia for example.
And that's it.
Three ingredients, so simple. Your recipe sounds wonderful, Kalle. But the conversion to the American system doesn't quite translate. Why? Because most of our measurement units are based on 4, instead of in decimals. So when it comes to cooking (or making beauty products), we Americans think fractionally, rather than decimally. A cup is 8 ounces , but 2/10 of a cup of corn starch or 08/100 cup of baking soda is not quite in our vocabulary.
I think I can help you with the conversion.
Approximately:
almost 1/4 cup corn or potato starch or arrowroot
4 teaspoons baking soda (also known as bicarbonate of soda)
almost 1/4 cup coconut oil.
How I converted the ingredients: it's easier for me to think of 50 mL rather than 0.5dL because in Germany, my mother's homeland, they tend to use mL in their cookbooks, instead of dL. It's actually 60mL that =1/4 cup in the American system of measurements, so maybe we could say 1/4 cup, less 2 teaspoons for the cornstarch and the coconut oil? As for the baking soda, 5 mL = 1 teaspoon.
Thanks for sharing your recipe, Kalle. I look forward to trying it. :-)
Thank you so much for this! I was racking my brain trying to figure out the conversions lol
@@java3416 You're welcome. :-)
Thank you! Screenshot that and will be making!
Thanks so much! I am Canadian, so familiar with the metric system but we do use it for cooking. Like we drive in kilometers but measure our weight and height and cooking the same as Americans.
Thanks for simplifying the recipe..
Itchy is more likely to come from the baking soda (many people develop skin problems from the stuff when used on the skin), the corn starch is also used as babypowder alternative. I use just cornstarch and coconutoil (1 tsp each) + 2-3 drops good essential oil if you want a scent. Mash the first to together with a fork to a paste and then add the essential oil. No preservatives, so make a new batch every month.
I am heavy chested 😅 and so I used to use cornstarch under them to fight and absorb sweating. It gave me a yeast infection there every time. I tried multiple times because like you said, we put it on babies bottoms. I know I have bad reactions to cornstarch.
@@monarchkittyHave you tried arrowroot powder instead?
@@monarchkittyDon't use corn starch on babies. Use arrowroot powder
If you already have some coconut oil at home here is an other 3-ingredient recipe: Heat the coconut oil then mix it with beeswax and add a little lanolin. Experiment with the ratios (you need it to become spreadable when it cools down) and you will get a great shoewax/leather conditioner.
Add a few drops of tea Tree oil to this and your leather goods wont mold/mildew again.
Beeswax and lanolin also makes great earplugs.
Just be careful. Some people are allergic to lanolin.
@@katie7748some are also allergic to bicarb.....it's up to you to work this out for yourselves.
I am so happy to have been recommended your channel by the algorithm. I very much agree with your lifestyle. No plastic, no harmful toxins. I thought I was alone with my esoterics. Thank you !
Great! Had this from my neighbour/friend about 8 months ago. She added 20-40 drops of essential (?aromatherapy) oil to provide scent. She kindly gave me the recipe which did include gently warming the coconut oil until it melts, then adding the two "powders" (bicarbonate of soda and corn starch). It was wonderful and yes I admit that, as you say, after a short time using this I did in fact smell less unpleasant than whilst I was using the chemical gunk from the shops! She did advise me that depending on the temperature in the house, it may be necessary to increase the coconut oil in the winter so the deodorizer would be less hard and slightly decrease it (or increase the corn flour /corn starch) in the summer so that it doesn't melt too quickly!
Concerning your comment about being sensitive to the "thickener"/starch. I did react quite badly when first making my own but presumed it was because I chose a different scent to the one my friend used. However on repeating without any scent and still reacting I found that in fact my issue is connected rather to whether I have just (razor) shaved my pits and how harsh I was in doing so. If I wait one day I am fine . . . ! Usually, now that I am bodily adapted to the natural deodorizer instead of the artificial chemically loaded and metallic one I can get away without using anything for a quiet day!
Honestly the proportions she gave me (see below) last about 6 months and I generally put on twice! Just a pea sized ball or if scraping through the mass with a thumb nail, then enough to cover the thumb nail.
Here are GB/grams proportions in case it helps anyone - sometimes conversions are easier from grams or teaspoons (etc.)
8 Tbsp coconut oil (equates roughly 125-135g)
8tbsp bicarbonate soda (equates roughly 125g)
4 tbsp corn starch (equates 35g)
20-4o drops essential oils (make sure its for skin, ie massage and not for candles/burners!)
Thanks Kalle!!
Thank you for this❤
bicarbonate as in baking soda?
In the UK we call it Bicarbonate of Soda, so I think you call it Baking Soda. Just Google it to check. 😊
Thanks for British measurements, that's really helpful. 🙏❤ All the other information too.😊
@@demonpants1613 yes! Baking soda.
Love making my own things like deodorant, soaps, lip balm, beard oil, candles and so much more. I use beeswax, coconut oil, Shea butter, arrowroot, Bentonite Clay and corn starch and pour it in a deodorant tube, I absolutely love it.
I have been making this using arrowroot plus essential oils for years. I pack it into a couple of re-used stick deodorant containers and put them into the refrigerator for about an hour. Works beautifully! Only thing is, it will melt if I try to travel with it in hot weather. Though I haven’t tried it yet, I think some beeswax may be added to help with the melting factor.
Most US cooks have Arrowroot to use to thicken gravies and sauces, It ends up clear and is also smoother and fewer lumps than wheat flour, which is the only flour most Americans use. Dozens of other types are available but the average get something on the table as fast as possible, person does not use them although many are on the shelf at the standard food store.
I can't believe how easy this was to make and I really like how customizable it is. Thank you for sharing this 👏👏
I loved the forest fairy clip! Tack så mycket for the translations in Swedish! I am currently learning the Swedish language and love learning the new words. Love this! You're 100% right that we have to pay attention to what we're putting in and on our bodies. Store bought deodorant is so bad for you. We recently made deodorant but literally melted coconut oil and added lemongrass essential oil then froze it in a silicone mold. Put a wrapping around it and just apply the block directly to armpits. Absolutely love it. We also made all natural soaps too on our channel which was fun to do for the first time. Keep spreading the information and helping others 😊
That sounds like a good recipe as well 😀

And trust me I’m aware of the current rebuttals around this already and they are completely false and misinformed by media.
Aren't essential oils terrible for you?

Important stuff. We need to be closer to making and doing, and being more self-reliant.
I have a theory that it is wise for people to have these three things for future security: 1. A skill: like blacksmithing, sewing, knitting, woodworking, gardening, etc...any sort of ancient artisnal craft. 2. A trade: plumbing, electric, carpentry, lumbering, mechanic. 3. A degree: even just a basic degree in business or liberal arts. If one has these 3 things, even in a troubled economy they can find ways to earn income.

My deodorant is one ingredient, fresh lemon juice. I’ve been using it for 10 years, works great and simple.
Interesting!
I believe you but that still sounds illegal 🍋
I do the same! after using a lemon, usually after preparing a ginger lemon tea in the morning, I use the squeezed out lemon on my armpits. It neutralizes the bacteria.
Another similar alternative is apple cider vinegar. It just comes on a bit strong at the start and is not as pleaseantly smelling (which is not the point of applying lemon juice).
Or just slice a thin lemon slice and rub it.

@Brian Fox I'm loving the idea of a Scotch-scented deo... Thanks for sharing that idea, that added bit of alcohol may help to kill bacteria as well. A Spiced Rum might be quite nice as well!
By Scotch you mean the actual alcoholic beverage? What is the purpose of the Scotch? Would you be willing to share your recipe?

Sounds logically, don't put anything on your body that you cannot eat....
I'm going to make that my life quote as well. Thanks for the inspiration! 🙏
I don’t make my own deodorant but I stoped using the “normal” stuff you can get at the grocery store and opted for a vegan one. Almost instantly after starting to use the new one I noticed that I smelled less and also was sweating less because when you clog the sweat glands your body starts to overproduce to cleanse and compensate. It’s just like you said “the body needs to sweat”.
@@nabilblack Why did you feel the need to tell me to shower? Was there something unclear about my comment?
If it came across as if I don’t clean myself properly that’s incorrect. I was pointing out that “normal” deodorant causes a smell on me and vegan deodorant doesn’t.
Most interesting and inspiring, thanks for sharing it
Thanks on how to make natural things to use saves so much money and its has no toxic ingredients
Another great tip is to lower the temperature of your shower at the end. A cooler temperature helps the pores, eliminating some of the odor.

You can use coconut oil as body cream and /or facial cream . Due to the anti inflammatory function you can also use it on oily skin. For dry skin add some other oils and /or essential oils like rose. I don't want anything else anymore and my skin is much better than 5 years ago

Also i started washing my hair with rye flour now for over a year, its a great schampoo and only one ingredient
So many companies are scamming us with unhealthy stuff we dont need..

Why rye flour specifically & what is it supposed to do? I do just a bit of black african soap 2 times a week.
Thanks Kalle for this great movie!! Love it! The second reason people can have a allergic reaction (rashes and itching in the armpiy) is because of the bicarbonate (baking soda). This balances out the ph level of your skin and for some people it creates a disbalance. Thats the reason of the rash. Do you know a recipe without baking soda? Love your content and keep up the good work!
Wow thank you, your comment touches a nerve. I have so many allergies i should be an alien.
