The 6 ft 8 Teddy Riner only became dominant after they banned attacks on legs... coincidence I think not
Fun fact: he's almost identical to the Greco-Roman Legacy heavyweight Mijan Lopez🤔😆
The take-home message is shorter athletes are at a disadvantage when they're not allowed to attack their opponent's legs🔥

@@redachraibi5993 it can be fairly efficent to do a sacrifice throw to your opponent when they shoot for the double leg, it is in fact so deadly that the move is prohibited in BJJ: you can't sacrifice throw if your opponent goes for one or two leg because the throw is very risky for them.
so arguing that double leg would somehow counter Judo is not really the take you think it is

Teddy is a judo legend, but he also had a lot of physical traits going for him. He's 6'8" and weighs over 300lbs of solid muscle. If he were a few inches shorter and 50lbs lighter, would he still have had the same success? Probably not.

Big fan Neil but you're so . . . off target on this one. Riner was 'big" and to be fair he had some technique, but not much. He was however definitely the indisputed champion of obi-tying and time-wasting. Have you seen the video of when he visited the Kodokan? His behaviour with respect to etiquette was absolutely disgraceful and, world champion or not, I'm sure that my old Sensei Kenshiro Abe would have asked him to leave the dojo. For sure If you put a pound for pound Riner up against Koga, Inue or Ono Teddy would spend a lot of time on his back examining the dojo ceiling. For me Riner dominated the mat as the king of boredom and he'll never be a true Judoka as long as he has a hole in his arse. In fact, Judo wise, Riner is the diametric opposite of yourself in every respect.

Come on !!! The "greatest" judo competitor of all time ?! is Riner? No, he is not !!! If you meant the "biggest" , then maybe,... The guy was good, and just that. His technique albeit at Olympic level was not comparable to many others and his judo relied a **lot** on his size!
