- Part 2 of 3 Ne-Waza compilations. This one is about some badass chokes. Hope this shows that Judo is not only about throws.

*Mma/bjj ref:* he tapped, fight is over
*Judo ref:* if he dies, he dies.
Mario Yamasaki: If his heart still beats, he still competes
Was really surprised to see this. Never seen that both the referee and the judo player himself hold on for so long after the tap... in any case, that's not the way it's supposed to be.
@@dwaterson21
Steve Mazzaggatti: Wonder what Im gonna have for dinner.
@@HastDuWasSuchenJudo does not get the respect it deserves as a judoka needs to let go of the choke. If Judokas could keep the choke for 30 seconds before letting go, it would get more respect.
@@KnowledgeLearningChannel
It's rather simple really: If the opponent taps, then they forfeit the match and you win. There's no need to hold on for longer, the opponent has already given up. Holding on for longer seems like an unnecessary health risk to me. I don't care how much respect judokas get from filthy casuals who don't know the sport, a person's health is more important. If you're unsure whether someone tapped, it's also possible to slightly loosen the chokehold for a bit to check. If the opponent keeps resisting, you can simply tighten the hold again.
Many judo competitions are also recorded on video so if there's doubt whether someone tapped, they can usually check with the head umpire. Of course there are also shitty people doing judo who will tap and then later deny it but these are the absolute exceptions and it happens rarely because usually the judges realise when someone taps.
1:45 what a beautiful sequence. she started smiling as she rolled her opponent, already knew victory was hers
bad anxiety when your taps don't mean out 🙃
2 years later but those are Fake tap outs. They're only tapping twice to trick the guy into releasing them without actually losing, that's why the referees are not stopping the fight. Tapouts in judo work as they work in any other combat sport. 3 straight taps, anything else is not a valid tap.
Notice how the first guy is only tapping twice per tap attempt, and the opponent doesn't let go. But then the guy actually panics and attempts to tap for real by tapping over 3 times in a row and the guy does releases him in that case.
The way these slow ass refs are reacting to chokes and judoka tapping out, I couldn’t even begin to fathom the thought of the IJF still allowing leg locks. Could you imagine how many knees would get fucking obliterated because of someone tapping to a heel hook and the ref not stopping the damn match OR the judoka who’s attacking simply not letting go of the submission?
Judo is so underrated.
I would say way more effective than nowadays bjj for real life situations.
@@Todo_fighting Me too. It's quick and brutal. I wouldn't want to be slammed to the floor by an experienced judoka. And it also has ground game. If I had the time I would cross train Boxing and Judo.
It's not about to be rated, judo is not just a simple martial art, it's a way of life
Judo is my favourite martial arts
@@mso008 I mean yeah you can die and it takes like 5 seconds to slam someone on the floor so it’s really effectif on the street
The refs must all be related to Mazzagatti. all amazing chokes, a few of which ive never seen before
So glad to see this. I won three tournament victorories with exactly that lepell choke. You really have to take it it to the extreme to make it work.
the bow and arrow choke is BRUTAL.
This is AWESOME!!!
Thank you for your wonderful post.
❤️👍
Thanks, glad you liked it!
Boxing and judo are the best for self defense in my opinion. If you add in a little wrestling for double singe leg takedowns defense and scrambles you can nullify bjj and kicks. In my opinion.
Never seen this style of martial arts.....ohmyGosh! I'm hooked! Thank you for keeping the video up!👇👏💞
Great to hear that, thanks!
You’ve never heard of judo?
This is real judo...dam I'm impressed
This video has given me so many mind blowing options to enrich my jiujitsu game..falling in love with judo too
Nice to hear that, thanks!
May I humbly suggest that you also study this video: czcams.com/video/GgkNZeoVSG0/video.html Some parts are too fast to see so it's best to watch the video at 3/4 speed.
And if you liked the first video I shared, I also suggest you watch all five volumes of Mike Swain Complete Judo. It's one of the best instructional videos out there. czcams.com/video/Yk2smI7P6hQ/video.html
Jason Sonic V from the videos I’ve seen, judo is the inferior one my opinion. Lacks the killer instinct of jiujitsu. More “sporty”. Less practical for survival. I like judo as a complement of my Bjj game. I respect your passion for judo. Open your mind to jiujitsu and maybe you’ll learn to love it too.
BJj is more technical on the ground, but Judo groundwork is more explosive and better at attacking turtle positions. Not to mention a Bjj guy would get smashed if they fought on concrete where throws matter instead of soft mats.
Judo is no joke
Awesome video! Ezekiel chokes and sankaku jime are the best. I can't wait for the next part!
Thanks!
Hadaka jime and mae hadaka jime are amazing as well
This video is a thing of absolute beauty.
Many many thanks for the post.

You're welcome! Glad you liked it.
Man, the old videos with leg grabs are so cool. Wish it still was still like that.
Muhammed Patel look into the freestyle judo ruleset.
Still we use them just not in competition. Well also depends on the school some just focus on throw more than ground mine we have to do both really good is hard to be honest
3:00 Way too slow reaction from referee. She's out for a good five seconds!
Yes, unfortunately that is pretty common in judo.
I nearly got a heart attack watching that
@Stephen Macdaddy its not as easy as "just tap out", dont be rude
@@GrapplerKingdom i feel like that's why newaza has been limited. Shitty refs
Dude these chokes are brutal. I want immediate release when I tap. Not another 3 seconds of choking. Jeez I wouldn't want to fight in that arena.
5:06 lol dude is trying to pull guard then he remembers that dojime is banned
Lmao
judo is the best
Hands down the worst refs I have ever seen
Bro doesnt know how judo tournament work 💀
1:47
amazingly executed.
1:43 that face
That clock choke is too vicious
@ 1:43 .. Woops that guy just passed out
judo's locking skills are more advanced than BJJ's.
These refs suck. Maybe they're unfamiliar with submissions. They should take a note from MMA refs who jump in immediately on a tap.
agreed. they should jump in and stop the fight when they see a tap, instead of holding up an arm for ippon.
@GihKaL are you kidding me? Have you not seen all those videos of judo refs letting chokes go on for way too long, like the one where that woman pissed herself after passing out? What this guy meant was that they should know some submissions for the fighters safety, not that mma refs are better than judo refs. Why would you think that this is a competition anyway. Also mazzagatti is famous for being the worst, funny you should pick him as the average mma ref for your rhetoric
Not MMA refs but Jiu Jitsu refs. Jiu Jitsu got so spread over the years and got bigger than Judo, meaning that alot of Judokas now cross train both to get better at both worlds. Unfortunately many of the refs are oldschool judokas and its based strictly on old judo. Judo got modernized due to alot of new arts and styles being introduced and everything evolved. Just look at it, refs dont even recognize half of the chokes that pose a real death threat!
Lol. Before MMA, Judo competitions have been going on for a century. Unfamiliar with submissions? It is for the competitor to release when the Ippon is called. If the competitor feels a tap, he may release the pressure but not the hold until the other competitor confirms they have submitted, hence multiple taps, or the ref calls Ippon having seen the initial tap out. If a competitor loses consciousness, the ref will still give a verbal command to release.
MMA competitions, ref needs to pile in because they cant be heard. Any case, MMA is not short of examples where refs are slow to break a choke or strangle, allow 6 too many punches on a ground and pound or allow injured competitors to continue....
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I don't understand why don't people just stick with Judo. It has sophisticated throwing techniques from a standing position and also has a wealth of ground fighting techniques. It's already a complete grappling art whereas BJJ just feels weird and incomplete.
Publicity and the fact that some people just dont shut up about it
My reason: Judo is a good base for throwing but throwing for the sake of scoring. Often you see professional judo practitioners throw and roll over the opponent as a nice way to finish the throw, when in reality the opponent would just take the back and choke you out.
If it wasn't for nippon rules I would favor judo, but until you have finished your opponent he remains a threat. That's why bjj and jiu jitsu is a nice complement in my opinion. Although it sure is important to be able to take your opponent down before going for the submission ;)
Also, the turtle defense seems slightly retarded in a defense situation (pardon my language). You may not easily get pinned but you will take a kick to the back of the head or ribs first.
Turtle position is in wrestling too..
No one asked asshole
the time pressure risk of the ref standing them back up and the top pressure of judo itself create an urgency to advance aggressively to submission and an equal urgency to defend. Good watching. Even better doing.
Awesome video .
Thanks!
6:35 was just talking about this submission this morning now I see it in a highlight reel 🔥 reverse triangle kneebar/suloev stretch
O bom e velho judo 💪🏽
I love New Waza 😍
Do your part as a responsible Judoka and tap when the choke is locked in properly or else enjoy your nap.
I love this
awesome video brother make part 2
Thanks, I'll try to make part 2 when the time is right. There will definitely be more ne waza videos in future.
Keep em coming!
What's up with these referees?

Wow that was cool.

Okuri eri jime, that is badass,we are gonna practice it in my judo club, judo for life
Are the refs not allowed to touch the competitors to check if they're out?
Interesting is the last action. Tori starte choke at 10:22 and this choke starts to act fully maybe at 10:37 when tori increase press her pressing her right leg on ukes body. Sometimes work of legs is important.
Even though kata gatame is really uncomfortable and it can choke you its actually a pin technique as its name says. Gatame= pin. Great video !!
Thanks! Yes, the same can be said about that sankaku hold down, sometimes it is used as pin and sometimes as submission.
World Junior Champion(-44㎏) Nina Kuboi is a Kata-Gatame Specialist
most of her wins depend on Kata-Gatame(as an Osaekomi)
Its both a hold and a strange. It's so, so very easy to knock your opponent out cold with this in
Gatame/Katame actually means "grapple" or "restraint". Osae komi means "pin" or "hold down"
@@physicalactivityscience1821 indeed! And the famous "armbar" is called "juji gatame" (for short) wich means cross hold down. Same for ude gatame, another elbow lock.
Lutador dá os três tapinhas...
Árbitro no Jiu Jitsu: Te protegerei à qualquer custo!
Árbitro no Judo: F O D A S S E?
When your opponent is strong as well as high on drugs or drunk, he may not feel an armbar or strike. Only way is to knock him out with a choke/ Shime waza technique.
Unless you're really good at strikes. Then he doesn't need to feel it, you just have to be ready to catch him when he's KO'd
These referees do a shit when people strangle each other. In other styles, the referee jumps in and separates the fighters
Muito bom.
Gerbi Choke is classified as a modified Kataha-Jime
It was against rule since before the 2013 World Judo Championships
The Referees missed it
Yeah, they actually missed it twice the same day as she won the final with the same choke. Cool technique, don't really understand why it has to be banned.
I also don't know why
By the way, according to Japanese Wikipedia
Gerbi came to Japan for training before the World Championships 2013
And She asked Hirotaka Okada(former World Champion and International Referee)
whether Gerbi Choke is legitimate or not
Okada told her It's clearly against rule
Nevertheless She did it twice at the Worlds
Interesting, never heard this story, it seems she took a risk and it paid off. Thanks for sharing interesting info.
Wonderful. Lindo demais!
Never knew kata ha jime was used in competition.wow
the first athlete is a master in newaza
Now let this video be a reminder to any bjj:er who thinks that judo is nothing about submissions. It is and it has always been. You just cannot rest comfortably in the guard. You have to progress all the way, or you will be stood up. You may want to notice that the triangle is practiced three ways. Reverse, from the side or from the guard. Well, the d'arce and anaconda has almost never be seen in judo, but the rest of it has. The arm triangle is nothing new.
1:48 👍👍👍
wait hadaka jime is allowed? i practiced judo for years and the fact that i never saw it even though it's fairly easy to get made me assume it's not allowed lmao. is it or is it not?
it is always allowed.....you just cant "crank" the head but you can sqeeze the forearm onto the neck for the rear naked choke.
Judo is like a all rounder cus it is good for takedowns and on the ground
I work as a prison guard. Judo and bjj skill safe my life.
🤣
Super
I practice bjj but i would also like to practice judo. There isn't much judo school around where i live like we have gracie barra everywhere full time gym mornings and evenings
Uh ref? Ref? REFF!!! wake up
I hope the poor guy at 1:40 is ok
Yes of course. It isn´t so dangerous as it looks.
Fucking beautiful
So, like, is a choke considered an Ippon or something else ? How much point is a choke worth ?
Yes, choke is an ippon and instant victory.
大和柔術甲天下!
Kinda gross the number of times the Judoka performing the submission isn't respecting the tap here. Even worse that the refs aren't seeing the taps either.
Not the athletes fault, if they just stop they give up a certain win
Sadly when you're performing at a serious level you only stop once the ref tells you to, or if you're absolutely sure your opponent is asleep.
Else you risk them saying they didn't tap/
Then you pull a royce gracie
Judo players will never “respect the tap”. It’s over when the ref says it is.
The Ref says when the fight is over.
This video for all the jiujitsu guys that think judo dosn't continue on the ground
did you mean bjj?
Hi I'm staring judo soon. Would 2 sessions per week be enough to go forward and improve and grade? That's all I can do with work and family schedule.
Hello, the more the better, but 2 sessions are enough as long as you keep your mind open and try to understand main principles of Judo. If you don't consider competing, 2 sessions are enough. Besides that you can improve by watching competitions, analysis, reading Judo literature etc., It all depends on motivation, it's not the hours of training that counts, but what you put in those hours. Good luck!
@@GrapplerKingdom that's really awesome mate. Thanks heaps!!
You're welcome!
@7:54 why does he stay on the ground and doesn't even turn over or try to move immediately? Ive seen this in a lot of tbe judo comp videos ive watched on youtube. Are you not supposed to defend yourself or tr y to counter? I'm new to Judo so bear with me
He is in the position that allows any counter. He can't get up from this position etc. He can defend only. He got herself in this position after bad attempt of throw (uchi mata) and her opponent take over activity and he goes to newaza immediately uses technique hadaka jime (kind of choke) and he won match. We can discuss if his defence should have been more activities etc his neck shouldn't have been so wide open as here etc.
Coming from about a year of jiujitsu, I started doing judo, and the approach to the ground game is soo different. Of course with the Judo white belts I can tap them consistently, even with only one year of training, but anyone else I'm trying to get used to their approach. Very different from jiujitsu when it comes to newaza
The difference in approach says much about each art. In Judo, the emphasis is in getting into side control. The reason being that Judo came from weapons fighting, and the goal was to control the weapon arm. Have a look at this video: czcams.com/video/--lVHa2ZJ_g/video.html The goal to control the weapon arm is also the reason why Judo throws look the way they do. When Judo went to Brazil and became BJJ, they didn't have that context of sword and knife fighting. So they took out what they didn't understand. The second difference is Judo places an emphasis on pins. This is because in a fight with real consequences, aka on the battlefield, getting pinned for twenty seconds means getting ground 'n pound for twenty seconds. It means getting pinned and getting stabbed with a tanto. Again we can see that BJJ was created out of context from real life-or-death fighting. And that's how BJJ became a style where being in the bottom position became safe and the go-to tactic, where pulling guard became the way to initiate the grappling, and where leglocks became viable because we don't have to worry about a knife getting pulled out at some point.
EDIT: As a side note, this concept of controlling and disarming the weapon is why Aikido looks the way it does. czcams.com/video/E3PY-WSEkE8/video.html
Makes sense, our judo instructor didnt show Newaza until you knew 4 takedowns. "No point in a ground game if you cant put somone on the ground". 🤷♂️
Hahahaha I love this
Refs are fucking brutal
2:05 reccorded new rules this technique is not licensed,is it?
Yes, it is banned if you outstretch the leg, also Gerbi choke at 4:32 is illegal too.
Luck Luciano
yes .. you are right
Grappler Kingdom
of course .. it is illegal.
Unfortunately, the judo commission doesn't penalize Israeli judokas in many actions .
I don't know why !??????!
So it is permitted to grab leg in the ground?
Yes, it is permitted.
At 6:35 minutes the boy applies a sankaku and to what seems to apply a leglock, is that allowed? Because I had never seen this in Judo.
No, leglocks are forbidden. The problem is that a lot of times referees suck when it comes to ground situations and things like that go unnoticed. Recently tIJF made referees look at these situations more carefully but, things like that still happen from time to time.
He is not doing a leglock. I do my reverse top triangle choke like that too. Pulling on the leg makes the reverse triangle tighter
@@jacobcarty613 Applying pressure by pulling on the leg to force an opponent to tap is illegal. Execution of any shime waza whilst applying pressure to the leg is no longer allowed. Loic Korval was tori in this example.
wow all these taps happened super quickly. do judo players not have as good a defence as bjj players? bjj players can hang on after their back gets taken for longer usually.
In judo, we have time limits before we're stood up, so you have to establish an opportunity for a submission and execute it quickly. The key is to have your throwing technique land them in a position where you can drop straight into either a dominant position or a submission entry
how was 6:40 not a knee bar of sorts, can't believe he got away with that one. i agree the original is a triangle but quickly went to joint lock.

INCOMPETENT Referee...
I'm shoked by those referees how can people say MMA is more violent in MMA they don't get choked out for 15 SECONDS STRAIGHT
I could just hear dana haha
For all the people saying "OMG!! That's a bad referee! Not reacting to tap out!!"
They're not reacting because it's a fake tap out. It's a very common (dirty) strategy in judo, you tap TWICE to trick your opponent into letting you go, but it doesn't count as defeat because you need to tap three times.
Notice how in none of the cases where the refs "don't react", the guy in the submission only taps TWICE, some cleverly space them to make it seem like they're 3 but they're just 2 taps, and then they actually tap out 3 times or more and the ref immediately calls it off.
"OK but what about the chokes?? They were passed out!"
In judo if you don't pass/tap out in 20 seconds (iirc) the ref breaks off the engagement and you both go back for another round. They can't break it off as soon as the person "goes unconscious" because in many cases they're still conscious and the fighter can appeal the decision if the ref called it off too soon
I was curious about this three tap rule you’re talking about so I tried searching for it online. I found nothing anywhere about a three tap rule under judo rules. I even went to the international judo Federation website, and there was nothing there saying that you’re required to tap at least three times if being submitted. The information I did find about tapping out stated that two or more taps are all that is needed. I don’t think it’s a fake tap out issue, I think it’s a bad refereeing issue.
