    My son is 4 years old and is a huge fan of Jimmy Pedro, or sensei Pedro as he calls Jimmy. He's too young to understand how great of a judo competitor Jimmy was, and how great of a judo coach he is. All he knows is that Jimmy is an important person because he's in a couple of big posters around the dojo. But the reason he's such a fan is that every time he sees Jimmy in the dojo and goes say hello, Jimmy stops what he's doing to talk to him. Jimmy is a very good coach, great sensei, and an awesome person.

    • @senerzen
      @senerzen Před 2 lety +7

      JUDO for you and BJJ for your daughter. Aikido is more in line with yoga. it is beautiful and spiritual but not designed for selfdefence. It was designed for samurai who carried swords. You need to be carrying a weapon to make Aikido work. For a male, judo is good because it allows you to dictate where the fight goes. If you are good in judo, you take the top position which is a huge advantage in everything-goes kind of fight. You can ground and pound and also submit. Add to Judo no-clothing wrestling and some boxing and you are good to go in any kind of situation. BJJ for your daughter because guard position is a natural position a girl is put by a male in case of an attack. in such a case, a sudden choke is the way to go.

I boxed at a high level for many years so I have that in my backpack BUT my wife was a top level judoka and she has unfortunately been in a few altercations (there are creeps everywhere) and the times that has happened, her Judo has saved her. She flipped a man almost twice her size when she was about 19 right on his head, that is how powerful judo is. My wife wieghs around 60 kg but she is a powerhouse, judo is amazing.

    The rotational forces of that move discussed at the start of this interview very much remind me of throwing the shot put. A decades long PED enhanced world record in the shot put was finally broken in 2021 by 2x Olympic and world champion Ryan Crouser. Think of the physics behind throwing a 7.26 kilo ball 23.37 m (76 ft 8+1⁄4 in). I’ll bet that that is a discussion many of your viewers would also enjoy. I know I would.

    Judo needs to have various leagues or federations working independently to build the brand of individual judoka. It's all an official federation for a country which is part of the IJF. Capitalism needs to help judo progress. You need better infrastructure. Dedicated buildings everywhere as well as presence in all highschools blending the disciples of physical education with Kano inspired humanities. Judo should be sold as a lifestyle. You can market within that and ethically too. For example incorporate the shoes Sambo players use. Associate with high quality products that build your brand. Another example would be the 02 trainer by Bas Rutten. Things like this are game changers and something everyone should try. Judo bands are another great product doing solo uchikomi at home. You could also encourage competitors to wear mouth guards as this teaches people to nose breathe. You could also have local authorities championing ethical meat sources and eating healthy with a meat producer in that country. Wholefoods. Watson Training Equipment. Charles Poliquin strength training principles. Just associate with the best of the best and keep building your brand of judo as a bigger picture.
