Mark Hollis, a true musical genius. Talk Talk may be one of the most under-appreciated bands ever.

One of the best bands in the 80s performing one of the best cocerts of the 80s. Please listen to the complete video of Talk Talk live at Montreux. Its overwhelming. Mark Hollis had a unique voice. So sad that he passed away.

The last 3 records are a hidden treasure. Love the integrity of this wonderful band....refused to sell out their art for money.

FYI, that piano intro is actually part of a song called 'Chameleon Days'. If you liked that, me and every single Talk Talk fan is going to strongly recommend you dig deeper into their library. It's good stuff.

This concert clip was from one of their close to the last live performances they did as a band. The next two studio albums (Spirit of Eden/Laughing Stock) are sensitive, subliminal masterpieces. Their record label sued them because it had no commercial potential, outside of any strict genre or catagory, and they didn't know how they could market it. These albums have gained a deep, cult status, deservedly so.
R.I.P. to frontman and true artist Mark Hollis.

@@woodturninguk6134 Why would being a fan mean you'd have to like everything they do equally? It's perfectly fine to enjoy some of their music more than others. Especially for a band that changed their style so dramatically from where they started.

Mark Hollis (the lead singer) made sure that every Talk Talk album sounded different from the other.
    - The Party is over
Sounds right at home with other contemporary new wave bands like a Flock of Seagulls and Duran Duran.
    - It's my life
Turns away from the pop songs and delves more into prog rock but with a main role for the synthesizer.
    - The Colour of spring
Is very similar to "It's my life" but doing away with all the Sythesizers and replacing them with true woodwind and strings.
    - Spirit of Eden
Saw the band going in a more experimental direction. Hollis would appear in live performances with a guitar strapped on of which he joked he'd "Gotten so good at playing that thing he didn't even bother to plug it in." On this album however, he DID plug it in, making full use of the fact that he hadn't mastered guitar as his playing sounds very rough and spontaneous.
    - Laughing stock
This time the band dabbled in free jazz, creating sonic landscapes and working with musicians who were given only the briefest description on what Hollis wanted to have them play. The producer of the album said that the album felt very much like falling into the abyss, as it was very dark and constricting. The band didn't tour to support the album.
    - Mark Hollis
Which was Hollis' only solo album, it follows the template of "Laughing stock" but didn't have the darkness, instead feeling very much like a sigh of relief. Again Hollis declined to tour to support the album stating that "it shouldn't be played live."
Prior to his death Mark Hollis was contacted by big shot producer Steven Wilson who remixed albums for the likes of Pink Floyd and Genesis, if he could remix "Colour of spring." Hollis' reply was only two words "Not interested."

As others have said I'd encourage you to search out other Talk Talk songs and their studio albums too. They were so much more than an eighties band or a seven piece live outfit.

Mark's vocals are always otherworldly. Lee Harris, the drummer is awesome. He's so animated and works it hard! I love this band. I've had their albums since the beginning. My Favorite song is "Today" I wish someone would react to it. It's 80's but Mark's voice makes it great. The lead singer sits down and lets the solos take the limelight.

Talk Talk had couple of hits back in the 80's...Such a shame, It's my life, dum dum girl, life 's what you make it, to name a few. They were a good band and the singer Mark Hollis had a very distinctive voice. Sadly he passed away last year....

You´d better check out the later albums of Talk Talk, if your´re looking for really high quality and prog-rock-music, ("Spirit of Eden" and "Laughing Stock"), although every period of TT is great and worth listening and this one is an AMAZING show! *** in addition i recommend "Mark Hollis Solo Album" (for selected listeners... 😜)
