    Before the Battle of Endor the Rebel Alliance was really struggling to overcome the might of the Empire. Today we take a look at 10 rebels who gave their lives and probably went to the grave thinking that their sacrifices were meaningless.

    As a Rogue Squadron/Battlefront fan, I can confirm that most rebels who aren't command staff are usually TIE bait. There were no shortages of transports and Nebulon-B frigates whose captains scream for help the moment their transports' shields get grazed by TIE fighter lasers. No shortages of starfighter squadrons that get shot down by Imperial aces, point-defense turrets, or just hordes of common grunt TIE fighters/interceptors. Hundreds of rebel ships were annihilated by remnants of the 501st Legion that escaped the Death Star as it was blowing up. Hundreds more were eradicated by Darth Vader during his raids on Yavin IV. If you're a rebel, and you're not a main character or a command staff member, there's a 1 in 2 chance that you're going to die.

They’ve got prison barges manned by a single dude and like 2-3 X-wings patrolling the entire Outer Rim. Which to the New Republic’s credit is way more than the Old Republic ever did to enforce any semblance of law in this region of space… but clearly they’ve got some manpower issues. Cause the salvage yard prison facility Bill Burr was working at was also completely run by droids. Anti-droid sentiments being what they are, this is a terrible PR move for the New Republic.

    I'm amazed that you manage to actually *find* ten Rebel deaths. Also, a bit a nitpick but the Republic was never a democracy. The vast majority of the individual planets that made up the Republic were monarchies in some form or another. The Senate existed to basically be the SW equivalent of the United Nations - a means to prevent constant warfare between all these disparate feudal realms (which is also why it was so ineffective at getting anything else done). Even the original script for Ep4 ended with "Princess Leia is crowned Queen of the Galaxy." So the Rebels weren't fighting for democracy at all so much as shouting "For the King!"
    In the end all the Empire accomplished was deposing a lot of aristocrats and all the Rebellion accomplished was putting those same aristocrats (or their next of kin) back onto their thrones. *Nobody* in Star Wars was fighting for democracy. Your choices where military dictatorship, classic feudalism, crime bosses or corporate states - and even then all of these ended up so packed with nepotism that it makes one wonder why anyone bothered fighting for any of them.

    The GR-75 COULD be down right scary... IF the rebels knew how to employ it. Heck, they could likely take on/down a star destroyer on their own.
    Here's the thing. The GR-75 is a very very common freighter. They are everywhere. First, we look at all the cargo pods... Those cargo pods could carry anything... up to and including.. shield generators, power supplies etc. You could Easly mount a massive shield generator in 1 pod, and power supplies in several others... connect them, then when needed. open up the pod with the generator and deploy a large shield, much like the shield at pheonix base, or somethnig akin to a large gungin shield.
    Next, look at the number of "forward cargo pods.. if you look at one "head on" there are at least 15 unobstructed forward cargo pods... each cargo pod is more then large enough to hold at least 4 missile or torpedo launchers. (with reloads, litterly the launching system on a y-wing, x-wing, what ever, just rigged up in clusters of 4.) Now remember those gungin shields, stop energy blasts but not solid objects. again, fire off the shield "down" create a sphere around the ship to protect it from a few turbo laser blasts... give it more then a few minutes, BUT all those torpedoes/missiles, would fly through the shield now thats 60 torps or missiles in 1 volley.... a CR-75 opening up with 60 torpedoes on 1 star destroyer all of them hitting in a fairly localized area... thats more then enough to do critial damage to the ship espeically if the leading few are ION torpedoes. THEN the ship opens up 3-4 more times... this is the equvilent of 30 Y wings or xwings making a run on a single destroyer. And all to often destroyers are running without their tie fighters deployed. So yes, properly deployed CR-75's COULD be a true terror weapon.

Did they really think they would be successful? Especially since they were stuck in a Star Destoyer with tens of thousands of storm troopers and Vader. Than after Vader boards the ship, Princess Leia tries to claim they were on a diplomatic mission. Well if they were on a diplomatic mission they wouldn't fire on storm troopers attempting to inspect the ship!

    • @tba113
      @tba113 Před 2 lety +2

      I see two possibilities: either they knew they were doomed and the only question was how many Stormtroopers they could drag to the afterlife with them, or they were trying to buy time for Leia to hide the plans somewhere or get them off the ship before the ISD's Stormtroopers overran the ship.
      Since Leia was the only Rebel survivor of the _Tantive IV_ - the rest of the Rebels aboard were executed almost immediately - and she managed to pull off a minor miracle by successfully getting the plans off the ship _after_ it had been securely anchored in the ISD's docking clamps, it was probably a mix of both going through the Rebel soldiers' minds.
      ...Briefly, anyway: the Stormtroopers' assault was so effective that the Rebel choke points collapsed almost instantly.

      You know who else you don't want to be a wingman for? Luke Skywalker. He lost Biggs Darklighter, and nearly lost Wedge Antilles (who of course was smart enough to get out while the getting was good); Luke's gunner, Dak, got smoked by a malfunction in fire control during the battle of Hoth, the battle which also saw the end of Hobbie (Rogue 2) who was supposedly being covered by "Rogue Leader:" Skywalker. Luke even got his astromech annihilated at Yavin. If you really want to stretch the bad luck prospective, Luke's speeder bike companion on Endor, Leia Organa, would end up in the bushes after Luke ditches her; Leia then ending up kidnapped by a bunch of vicious, flesh-eating teddy-bears. Further still? Luke's dad dies when defending Luke against Emperor Palpatine. Yeah, Luke is bad luck. No wonder Grogu ditched him to go back to Din Jarin.

      @@HolyknightVader999 yeah, the Rebel Alliance was kinda funny like that, I suppose. Luke was, to my knowledge, never given a higher rank than "Commander" (his rank at Hoth at least) within Rebel Command. Of course his achieved rank within the Jedi Order (if that's what you want to call the remnant of the Jedi Order) was that of "Jedi Master," which he basically gave himself since there was really no one else (qualified?) to bestow the rank onto Luke.
      Then you have Hera Syndulla who rose to the rank of general by the time of the Battle of Endor; she achieved this rank despite the numerous mission mishaps that cost most if not all of those under her direct command. Of course in a Galaxy Far, Far Away they do things a lot differently, for example the G.A.R. giving a teenager (Ahsoka Tano) command of a squadron during a vital relief mission which went really bad for that squadron. I know that was the Clone Wars, but the general, similar sentiment is what I'm aiming to point out. At any rate, as the saying goes: "Desperate times call for desperate measures." lol.
