    • @nerag7459
      @nerag7459 Před 4 lety +23

      That's the problems with cell structures. Sometimes they are a good thing. Sometimes they kill people. The French Resistance had multiple occasions where they found someone in their organization who might be an informer and they were thinking about whether to kill them or let them go. Sometimes they killed them. They might have kept quiet or not have been an informer at all. It is difficult being in a Resistance and know who you can tell and who you cannot. Sometimes people die. Innocent people. Good people. What if they told everyone and there was a traitor in the fleet or they were bugged? The entire point of the movie was that good people can make catastrophic mistakes. Criticizing that is like criticizing opera for having too much singing. I don't know why critics of the movie can't say: "It wasn't the movie I wanted."

      Dennis Galindez just due to the shear number of Jedi during the Clone Wars, it’s very easy to believe that many would survive. It’s actually less believable to think EVERY Jedi was killed. As long as a Jedi wasn’t on the front lines or at the Temple, they had a very good chance of surviving. Order 66 was only effective on Jedi currently engaged in battle because they’re too distracted by the fight to react in time. And the Temple attack was successful because the Temple is where the Jedi would least expect to be attacked, especially by clone troopers and Anakin.

His campaign to bring the new Republic down was something unique - the Empire in the position of the underdog, in smaller numbers, but with strong ships, tactical superior and lead by a good commander. A offensive who hits without super-weapons (but sometimes with the illusion of them), which strikes not just the military but also the economy and the will of the enemy to fight on.

And then the third movie is Luke and Rey seeking out the reborn Emperor to defeat him before he can bring the Empire back. Strategically speaking, the First Order holds almost all the cards and can easily obliterate their enemy's military capabilities. Politically you're also right, they've dismantled much of the support network for the Resistance and the remaining elements of the Republic will be friendly to the First Order. Individual systems may pose threat, but I don't know how long most of those would last in a protracted war.

      The First Order lacks the forces and manpower to actually control the territory they have now taken. True, they have wiped out the leadership of the New Republic and this government had no military to speak of (every time the "peace" politicians disarm the Galactic Republic, it gets attacked and nearly wiped out after losing the outer rim to crime from lack of presence in the area. You think they would have learned after it happened the 3rd or 4th time) but there are several planets that do have forces that they could bring together to oppose the 1st Order and are very likely to since they have seen just how brutal and destructive they are.
      The delay in any allies showing up to join the Resistance is from the time delay on the entire galaxy trying to figure out just happened, how big is the threat, and was Starkiller Base actually taken out. That takes travel time, meetings with neighbors, and then marshaling forces to action. I could see this taking weeks, if not a few months, especially as the 1st Order starts showing up at undefended planets and claiming them. The trailer for the next movie shows this cavalry arrival moment. The real question after this is the government that forms after all this is finished being fought over going to keep a well trained and supplied military to ensure that every 50 to 500 years there isn't a galaxy wide conflict? That and will the Force be finally balanced again so that Force worshiping zealots don't cause massive wars again either?

What I'm more curious about is the defense fleets around worlds such as Mon Cala. Sure the Mon Calamari might have opposed the Resistance prior to the destruction of Hosnian Prime, but I'd think in its aftermath, particularly knowing that Starkiller Base was destroyed, they'd be quick to side with the Resistance. And without the Supremacy, I can't imagine that the First Order, which as you point out is relatively small in comparison to the Empire or even legends the New Republic and thus even if they could take Mon Cala, it would cost them dearly. And I'm sure many of the important Core worlds would they own defense fleets as well. So I would assume that eventually, they would side with the Resistance.

      The 1st Order is likely going to seize key production and supply facilities along with hyperspace lane junction systems by rolling into system with large detachments, threaten planetary bombardment, then take over governorship with a token garrison force and commander. The threat of annihilation from the skies should the populous cause trouble is how they will rule, especially since the fanaticism of the 1st Order lets them carry out this threat easily. This will not work on planets like Rodia and especially Mon Cala since they have militias and system fleets that are sizable.
      The real danger is that if they leave the 1st Order in control of the resource planets and the production centers, they will increase in size steadily and rapidly. It took them decades to build what they have now with almost no resources. With proper ship yards and the entire Galaxy to recruit their brainwashed storm troopers and support personnel from, it would only take them 5 years to have dominance tighter than the Empire did. Anything over the cycle time to train personnel and construct a cruiser in a ship yard slip and they will have become unstoppable. This would likely be a year to 18 months since they would put all resources into expanding their forces. That is a very narrow time to deal with them. Add in the possibility of an automated fleet of MK 1 Star Destroyers that they could get now and could use to blockade shipping and planets and the heroes down't have much time to spare. All in and crush the 1st Order in a single battle is the best option.

So basically what you’re saying is they’re cashing into nostalgia so hard that to really notice the differences between these two groups is to read some graphic novels that are completely separate from the movies that only the hardcore fans buy. That would be a bit harder for the casual audience to get behind I think as it's not so simple. Common Sense, basically how the Empire and Alliance were separated in the Galactic Civil War. Many people, such as Iden Versio only knew the Empire as a peacekeeping organization which brought stability to the galaxy, even viewing Alderaan as a necessary evil to end the war. Others, like Wedge Antilles saw the Empire as a bureaucratic fascist organization dedicated to bringing pain and suffering to anyone who steps out of line, which by stepping out of line I mean anyone who stands quietly in line and gets arrested and/or shot randomly because of paranoia. Politics are confusing and fucked up on so many different levels, I'm surprised the people haven't started a revolution to just end politics altogether. Also, if there were FO sympathizers in the Hosnian system, why the fuck didn't the FO warn them? You basically just vaporized your richest and most influential supporters.
