You send in Clone Commandos like Delta Squad when you want them to execute your battle plans with precision and you calculated your odds down to the fourth decimal point. You send in Clone Force 99 when you want someone dead and you're willing to not ask questions how it's done.

After them came the squads, delta, beta, omega, and theta. I like to think of it this way. Look at the seal boys . They have 10 ground teams And 2 aquatic teams. CF99 , the nulls, and delta are tieir one devgru guys. Foxtrot group, alpha class, beta squad probably were the equivalent of seal teams 3, 2, 4 but cf99 in my eyes + the nulls and delta squad are the gar’s equivalent of devgru. Devgru structure is even broken down into sub categories. Green, Red, Gold Boat 1, 2, bravo, alpha. CF99 is teir one alpha while the others make up , red, gold etc

Clone Force 99 has its place in combat, even if they're not necessarily as efficient as a "regular" Clone Commando unit. There's probably a lot of overlap in their capabilities and the missions they'd be handy for, and while Clone Force 99 does seem to prefer going loud I don't think that means they're incapable of being stealthy.
In my opinion, it would probably be preferable to use a regular Commando unit especially if you're going to be working with other regular clones or the mission needs to be pulled off in *exactly* the right way, but Clone Force 99 has greater destructive power overall so they could be more useful for destabilizing enemy forces.

aviatorEngineer but I mean, commandos don’t always go exactly by the book, they have to adapt a ton, and then, remember, Delta took back a whole Aclimator-class assault ship from Trandoshians and battle droids BY THEIR SELF. Then they held off a CIS invasion of that whole ship, and basically destroyed the CIS assault ship. So you can’t really say that commandos don’t have the same destructive power. 99s are worse in a fight than most commando units. The main reason you use the bad batch is when you have a situation where normal clones can't get the job done, but it's not bad enough to send over commandos to do it. They are much more like ARC troopers, which are just elite soldiers.

As for the 10km sniper kills, I'm pretty sure that was just an exaggeration to make crosshair sound cooler than he is. Especially considering the distance to the horizon on a planet the size of earth is only 5kms. Now that doesn't rule it out as a posibility - he'd only have to be about ten metres above ground to be able to see that extra five kilometres, but think of the logistics of taking such a long shot. The chances of finding a place to shoot from that has absolutely no obstructions for ten kilometres is extremely low. Then you have to take into account how much your aim would move just from the tiniest movement of your gun at that distance. Even if his gun has a perfect scope and perfect accuracy, and blaster bolts aren't affected by the wind or anything else, no one can take a shot like that. More to the point, there's no reason to take a shot like that. If he misses (and he will), he has now alerted the enemy, and his chance of getting another shot are even smaller than the initial shot that he missed.

I agree that Clone force are more like mercenaries. Which is why I’d go with the Commandos. I feel like the standard rank and file would look up to the commandos after hearing of their missions, actions and legends. Similar to how rangers look up to delta.
I think because of their general disdain for the “regs”, clone force would be looked down upon by the clone troopers for their lack of discipline and regard for unit cohesion. But with that, it is clone forces general disregard for said, that makes them so affective. I just prefer the team mentality the Commandos put forth.

Your statement about them working independently isn't accurate, that's the difference between them and ARC troopers. The thing is we don’t know all of 99’s missions. From clone wars we only know a few missions, none of their previous ones. Perhaps they never got the chance to go and shutdown a driod factory because they were preoccupied by another mission. There is only 1 clone force 99 and a ton more clone commando squads. That being said, both groups serve a niche role in the army. 99 is experimental, but it does show that focused mutations can work. you just have to be aware of the personality traits in use by the clones in question. While this does make them a lose cannon, it does make them an effective fighting force and can do the jobs that the clone commando's cannot.
One thing that comes to mind is the fact the 99 don't look like regular clones. This would make them perfect for infiltration missions when their armour is not needed. They could pass for regular humans, a little eccentric, but they could pass.

Crosshair is one of the best shots if not the best shot in the clone army and depending on the environment tech can win you the battle straight up, depending if there is stuff to hack. And wrecker allows you an extra level of unpredictability by opening up new angles of attack or just creating an avalanche or something. The point is, cf99 just had an insane degree of versatility which commandos just dont have. But the commandos are more coordinated, disciplined and stealthy. Which is why I favor them in most missions, but favor cf99 in a straight up battle.

While the BB called all other clones “regs,” from what we saw, a lot of this hostility is likely the result of them operating out of Kamino. Which was chuck full of shiny new clones, itching to fight, who looked down on this highly skilled Clone Commando team, because they were, in effect, defective clones. I could see them being very hostile to regs from this, especially as this likely constant harassment likely came from shinies, who had yet to leave Kamino or see any action.
Imagine, if you will, a Squad of Marine Force Recon troopers, that had just returned from their 4th deployment to Afghanistan or Iraq, then going to chow in a mess hall, only for everyone there bad mouthed, insulted, berate and looked down on, by an entire mess hall of sailors, who hadn’t yet even passed basic training.
How well do you think that would go over? 🤣

    • @JC-sr9zf
      @JC-sr9zf Před 2 lety +3

Sorry to revive an old comment, but I really liked the point you made.
I always saw the whole "regs" thing as a sign that the Bad Batch were the pricks and the regular clones had done nothing to deserve it. Like, apparently some DEVGRU Navy SEALs call the other SEAL Teams "Vanilla SEALs" because they're not considered to be as elite, while most DEVGRU guys hate that kind of behaviour and respect everyone who has signed up to fight for their country, no matter what role they serve in, and have an even higher respect for fellow SEALs. And like, I've heard ex-SEALs talking about Marines and Army and even National Guard and they have nothing but praise and respect for their less elite counterparts in the armed forces.
So I always thought Bad Batch were like those few elitists that nobody likes, and I disliked Bad Batch because of it. Your comment gave me an interesting alternative perspective though.

@@JC-sr9zf Don’t worry about necro’ing this thread, I’ve been known to do the same thing. Thank you for your response!
Honestly at first I saw the whole “Regs” thing the same way, but after seeing how even troop who hadn’t seen combat treated them, I realized that they likely were looked down at even worse by clones with extensive combat experience. I mean busting chops has surely always been a part of military life, but in The Bad Batch, the regs on Kamino truly seemed to despise CF99, and we need to remember that they were raised such that, imperfect clones, except for a few used for general labor, were euthanized as defective, so obviously that Kaminian ideology has effected, and become part of the clone’s own views as well.
Then add to this, the fact that Clone Force 99 actually put normal clones to shame, so that alone cause result in even experienced troopers being hostile toward them.
Take care, and God I wish they would hurry up with season 2, and I REALLY hope Disney realizes that if they make longer seasons of The Bad Batch and the Mandalorian, that it will give Star Wars fans a reason to be subscribed to Disney plus for more of the year than we currently have. I mean if I was in charge, my ultimate goal would be to have a new episode, of some SW series, virtually every week of the year, since then Disney+ would be a must have subscription year round, instead of only needing it for one out of every 3-4 months or so.

Even in Legends for Delta, they also experienced the same, the "regs" of the clone army didn't always look too kindly toward the "superior training" and "deluxe model" types of the commandos. Sure, some of them revered Delta for their legendary feats throughout the Geonosian campaign, but the years that followed showed that many of the standard troopers didn't take kindly to Delta, Omega, or any of the commando units, let alone the "defective" freaks of the Bad Batch. Thankfully, most of the time the veteran soldiers remind these standard troopers of ranks, since every commando is essentially their acting commanders on the battlefield to these regs.

For the Bad Batch I'd give them the Fordo treatment they prefer to do things their way and they are best set out for search and destroy missions, information retrieval and assassination. Delta Squad are more akin to paratroopers and real life delta force with them serving in the area of sabotage, information disruption, forward reconnaissance and assassination both squads fill their roles quite well but in a all out fight I think Delta and Bad batch are evenly matched with Delta squad being more coordinated with its squad structure while bad batch being more independent individually. Delta is more calculated while BB is more aggressive it falls down what kind of circumstances they happen to be under. On a region wide scale I believe Delta squad will come out on top due to them being more focused on the mission than any arguments but in a straight fight I think the BB is more capable, the reason behind it is that despite the commandos being more independent than the regs they still require a chain of command to function while BB can operate independently killing hunter in a fight wont do much except making Wrecker furious but killing boss in Delta squad may lead to a break down in discipline until a new squad lead is assigned

@@MultiRoleBR 1st I was spitballing 2nd they all have knives Hunter uses it the most because that's his MO 3rd these are both commando squads it'd be unfair to pit both squads in an arena where they're gonna fist fight if both sides where in a warzone they'd have advantages over the other squad BB has an abundance of technical members and trackers with Tech gathering intel through cam feed with a hotwired droid and Echo locking Fixer out of most consols through a door socket. Crosshair is stated to have a genetic alteration of having exceptional eye sight. I'm going to assume eagle like since that would strike as exceptional plus his use of traps and trick shoting could keep Sev pinned, Hunter on the other hand also has improved senses if I remember correctly he can pick up the electric signatures of droids.
In summery in a warzone setting where both squads are in the same area opposing each other they'd have their work cut out for each other Delta has better specialization but its all in eggs in one basket if one member is KIA Bad Batch has a greater division of labor with many of their men having overlapping responsibilities but losing a member means the other guy has to work harder. Losing leadership will leave both rudderless but we atleast saw BB without Hunter and did the best option they could regroup use Omega's knowledge and get Hunter back if Crosshair didn't anticipate it they could've pulled it off plus Echo was already familiar with being alone or away from a leader comes with the job of an ARC. We never saw in game or in universe how Delta would react without Boss so its a moot point.
TLDR since this is getting long don't count BB out of the fight. Delta is bad ass and its for a good damn reason but BB has also pulled some crazy shit also Wrecker can juggle dumpsters for shits and giggles.

I'd say the Commandos offer something that most people don't ever think about, that is redundancy, if a member of a real life special forces unit dies in action, you can usually count on someone else in the team being able to take his position, to an extent all the Clone Commandos can breach doors and set demolition charges, they can all use the sniper attachment, and probably most other pieces of kit that they are issued, so if one of them dies, the whole team doesn't fall apart. If one of the members of 99 dies though the rest of the squad becomes severely handicapped, there is a reason why such units don't really exist in real life, they are extremely vulnerable, I doubt Wrecker could do Tech's job and I'm absolutely 100% sure Tech couldn't do Wrecker's job, they are simply too different and if you rely almost entirely on being different that can be a weakness.
I'd argue that Hunter's abilities are by far the most valuable considering he is quite literally a walking recon mission that's constantly gathering information about his surroundings without really having to think about it, his ability to sense things is probably what has kept the squad alive so far as you can't exactly sneak up on that, but at the end of the day he's still not above making a mistake, and if he does that might doom the whole team. Delta Squad on the other hand as many other Commando Squads coninued to function even after Sev was [redacted] and considering they walked right into a trap on the RAS Prosecutor that was pretty good going from them as well, especially when they finally manage to regroup, like they say, the Commandos are about as dangerous alone as they are together, Clone Force 99 on the other hand, not so much, they need each other's special traits.
That said I love the Bad Batch, they are a wacky rag-tag collection of semi failed experiments, they are incredibly unique individuals in an army of literal clones, they are quite literally an anomaly in the GRA, it's tropey as hell for sure, but when is Star Wars ever NOT tropey?
