The family's not actually in a snow globe, Krampus is just using a snow globe to spy on them and make sure they keep the Christmas spirit.
Pretty neat take. Really seals in the fact that unlike Krampus being the anti-Santa and spitting in the face of the real Santa, they are more coworkers than anything, so it makes sense that Krampus will work with Santa by making sure everyone keeps the Christmas spirit.

My interpretation of the end is this:
When Max finally confronts krampus himself and says he’s sorry for losing the spirit of Christmas, thus offering himself up for his own family. Krampus (in his own twisted sense of humor) sees this self sacrifice as a good enough reason to let all of them go. So the only way he can legitimately do this is to take them all so he can revert everything back to the way it should be, still giving max the bell as a damn good reminder to not do it again.
The snow globe is to make sure they don’t fuck up again and keep watch over them. Cause remember:

This is why I love this movie:
Well the whole idea of Krampus is that he’s a punisher.
He only punishes but never kills, it’s the whole reason why he just drops them into the hole, also The Clown probably eats the kids whole and then spits them out anyway.
So for Krampus to see that “hey, this kid truly means it so I think he got the idea of what happens” is why Krampus considered it in the first place.
He’s literally been doing it for thousands of years.

What is even more terrifying about Krampus himself in this adaptation is that the filmmakers confirmed that the old man face he is seen with is not his face. It's a FLESH MASK, just like Leatherface! So he is hiding his real demon face underneath that old man mask.

Man, watching this Christmas 2021, I used to think Dead Meat hit it's prime around the time of this count, yet James' delivery is so monotone, hurried, and lacking that delicious behind the scenes goodness. Really shows how this channel constantly improves that you go back and realise old material you thought was great is really not so great compared to now!
Watched Krampus tonight and was like oh shit I bet James covered it. Real awesome to see and hear how far he’s improved his craft for the kill counts
I love how not only does the family have a real bond. So does Krampus’ and his monsters.
I dont think James realized Krampus was wearing someone's face over its own. Thats the reason the mouth is always open and the skin looks so clammy. Its honestly a fantastic design choice

@@richardalexander7823 The writer/director hasn't said. He only confirmed it was wearing someone's face as a mask, and that it wasn't Santa's. My take on it personally? I figure it's a random old man who was someone's taken familly member, and that he wears it to look more like Santa. All his minions are corrupted and twisted versions of Christmas icons, so it would make sense the goat demon would try to fashion himself in the image of Santa.

Theres actually two ways to interpret the ending, either the Sad ending that the family is trapped for eternity in a holy jolly xmas snow globe or the family is now under watch from Krampus to keep the family spirits up for the holidays and krampus might come back leaving the ornament as a warning he's always watching.
The graphic novel confirmed that it was the good ending, so nice.
@@marcuscollins949 He didn’t, unlike Max, Omi didn’t try to sacrifice herself/save her family, so her family burned in hell for eternity, but Max was brave enough to not accept the bell and face Krampus. Krampus then realized Max gained his Christmas spirit back, so he gave him his wish, he gave him his family back.

I saw this movie as a kid and was absolutely terrified at the scene of Krampus sending down the Jack-in-a-box to kill the girl under the van!
I remember watching this with my family on Christmas Eve.
Personally, I don't think Krampus dragged the family down to hell.
I think he constructed a nightmare for them, a warning of sorts that was designed to remind them that they need to keep the spirt of Christmas alive or else just like he gave it to Grandma Omi when he dragged her family down to hell.
The bell that Max gets is the way that he reminds the family that the dream was, in some way, real as he is real. Finally, the snow globe at the end isn't their prison, it's a way for Krampus to keep an eye on them in case they try to violate the spirt of Christmas again.
But that is just my opinion on it as I like the idea of a happy ending.

@@hellothere5030 That's how I pretty much interpreted the ending as well. The ending of its tie-in graphic novel (Krampus: Shadow of Saint Nicholas) really helps greatly.

The usual tradition is, that one day before St. Nikolaus shows up on the 6th of December in order to treat the good kids, he sends the Krampus to punish the bad ones, usually by taking them with him in a basket on his back and throwing them into the pits of hell.
Basically, here in Austria your parents ask your neighbours to dress up as the Krampus (the costumes are really common here, the dress is made out of goat fur and the mask is made out of wood, cheaper versions are simply made out of rubber) and come over to your house in order to scare the living shit out of you. When I was 4 years old, the Krampus stomped into our living room, smashing arround his chain while screaming like a maniac, breaking multiple glasses and a clock in the process, grabed me at the collar, pulled me up from under the table, draged me outside through the snow and threw me on a hay cart, where some other children were already in it. Then he drove through the neighbourhood with us for about another hour, getting some more kids on his way till he stopped at the main square of our little town, where our laughing parents were waiting for us and he finally released us. Us kids got a piece of nut loaf as a kind of compensation afterwards.
Some ten years later, my parents told me that they had a serious talk with the guy dressed up as the Krampus that night, cause they found it really over the top that he broke their clock.
Though I almost pissed my pants everytime the Krampus showed up when I was a toddler, these are among the best childhood memories I have. (;

@@garondupree8165 Well, in terms of midwinter, we got another tradition, which isn't influenced by christian believes in any way.
Every year, when December starts, the so-called "Perchten" show up. Those are good spirits, which come down from their homes high up in the mountains, where no trees can grow in order to visit us humans and do us different favours.
They come in two kinds: The Schönperchten (the beautiful ones) and the Schirchperchten (the ugly ones). Both groups have very special tasks.
Usually, the Schirchperchten are the first to come down. They look a lot like the Krampus, they often times just have more horns. Their favour to mankind is to scare and fight off all evil spirits, which managed to get a hold on people and their homes.
They are followed by the Schönperchten, which look like normal people dressed in traditional Austrian suits, but with something like an alpine Voodoo mask hiding their faces. Just like the Schirchperchten, they travel from town to town and hand presents out to everyone, who sees them. Beeing touched by a Schönpercht is considered good luck, especially for newly married couples who want to have children soon, cause Schönperchten resemble the rebirth of the land when winter is gone.
Though those are legends, they are very real in terms of traditions. We've got a lot of clubs here, which do exactly that. They dress up as one of those two kinds (mostly they are Schirchperchten, cause everybody thinks they look awesome :D) and do some kind of a parade called "Perchtenlauf". You can look it up here on CZcams, if you're interested, there are plenty of videos of such events, though they may have not the best qualitiy in terms of tradition and camera.
There's even a traditional job here in Austria called "Maskenschnitzer". Those guys craft the masks for those Perchten clubs, cause they are always made out of wood and the horns of ramgoats. They have glowing eyes and sometimes even voice distorters, that's why they take a lot of skill to craft and therefore are really expensive, it's something between 300 and 1200 Euro per mask. (;
In the Netherlands we have the lore that the Holidays man beats the bad kids with twigs and then kidnaps them to Spain in a potato sack but I've never seen it acted out

That kid wasn't exactly portrayed as the brightest bulb on the tree lol.
Also, the snowglobe ending is meant to be open-ended, and left to interpretation. Whether the family is unknowingly trapped in a snowglobe within Krampus' workshop, or if the Snowglobe is his way of keeping an eye on them to ensure they learned their lesson, and regained the Christmas Spirit they cast aside. Remember he is St. Nicolas' Shadow who exists as his antithesis. So he ALSO sees you when you're sleeping, and knows when you're awake. He and Santa know if you've been bad or good........and he's why you must be good for goodness sake. But that's the beauty of this ending: it's up to the audience to decide what the ending means, and what the families fate REALLY is.
Once again utilizing the horror concept "fear of the unknown", which i'm really a fan of now.:D

It was actually confirmed by the graphic novel that it was a good ending/Krampus giving the family a second chance, so not really decided by the audience, but I like the ending.
@@hellothere5030 Okay. But Graphic Novels are meant to be adaptations more based on the second to final screenplay of the movie. I'm sure there are plenty of differences between the two. But that doesn't matter to me, because I prefer the Happy, yet ominous ending that implies that while Krampus has given the family one last chance for redemption, he makes it clear he WILL be watching them for always, and eternity: just as he and St. Nicholas do for all the other people of the world.
@@kahnac6194 Yet, the writers of the book, are the same people who are co-producers to the movie, I understand what you’re saying, though the thought of interpreting the ending is nice, even Dougherty says that the ending was based on the graphic novel.

Then I guess it's like the other movie novelizations after all in that they are indeed based on the second to last screenplay for the movie before THAT account was settled to complete the movie. However, while what you said probably is true, I HAVE heard the movie ending was meant to be left to people's own interpretations, to wonder what the meaning behind the ending really was. I actually like that idea: it honors the horror trope, and real life theme known as "Fear of the Unknown".:)

This movie sucks. The Krampus uses to come on the 5th of December, St. Nicholas on the 6th, but mostly they come together as the Krampus is Nicholas's companion.
They do NOT appeare at Christmas.
And there is no freaky Coca Cola advertising fat man on the 24th but the Christ child.
