However, the process to getting one can be confusing and seem difficult, at least in the US. In this video, I simplify the process to get a compression pump for lymphedema and provide a free resource for you and your doctor.

I got a pump after my second breast cancer diagnosis as I was finishing radiation. Highly recommend them! Fortunately for me, it was at the end of the year so I had met my insurance deductible. I didn’t have active lymphedema when I ordered it, but it happened a few months later. Between my custom garments and the pump, my lymphedema is very well managed. It takes time, but it really works!
This should be standard after surgery.
Is it helpfulevfor early swelling as my mother notice the swollen hand and it's just one year now after surgery and radiotherapy
@@hananezzat7973 it was for me. My hand was where I first noticed the lymphedema, but stupid me didn’t realize it until it got worse. But when I get a flareup, the pump is my first go to. Hope this helps her!

It was October 30, 2003 when I first underwent treatment for the lymphedema I had in my lowed legs. After being treated with compression bandaging which included light manual massaging, I was then fitted with a pneumatic air pump with knee-high Jobst stockings custom-made in Germany according to measurements of both legs. This went on for about two years. I don't remember why it stopped. After complications including repeated cycles of leg infections from the now-uncontrolled swelling, I am under care of a PCP and this information may help me obtain and use a new pneumatic device. The one I used worked very nicely and I am sure a new one now will work even better now that I know what steps to take to obtain one.Thank you for this video that just may help reduce the swelling with a pump I can use and replace as needed for the rest of my life.
On my way to getting my PCP . Only on 2nd week of leg wrapping with my specialist and she has been shocked at the progress my leg is making. I now exercise and diet enthusiastically. Leg is doing great but i also have above the waist involvement.
I have breast and trunck lymphedema but have never had arm swelling. I needed a pump because although I was compliant with my self-massage, I couldn't manage my lymphedema without going back to OT regularly. My insurance company would only approve an arm only pump which would push any fluid up my arm into my breast and torso which would make my condition worse. They wanted me to try it out and see what would happen. Thankfully, I have a wonderful therapist who made many phone calls and sent many emails explaining how the proposed arm pump would make my condition worse. Fortunately, I was approved for a pump for my breast and torso which includes an arm and torso part as well as shorts.

I am 51 years old and started noticing swelling in my right leg. The swelling was so drastic that I found it difficult to walk and drastic weight gain due to so much fluid retention. At first they didn't know what was the cause. They did every test from the heart kidneys thyroid liver etc..... finally 2 years later I was diagnosed with lymphademia which I knew NOTHING about. Besides athsma I've been healthy for the most part. I asked what was the cause and what can be done. Dr told me I could have injured my lymphatic system somehow which I hadn't had any injury or fall NOTHING. He said it JUST HAPPENS AND THERE WAS NO CURE.. I FREAKED OUT. I've been to lymphatic therapy which worked but as soon as I stopped treatment the swelling just came back. I can't believe I have to live with this for the rest of my life. Is this really TRUE will I really have to live with this. There is no fix?? This is very heartbreaking for me. As I've said I have asthma and having this extra weight because of the fluid really takes a toll on my body. I'm only 4'10 and up until this lymphatic issue I've never been over 110. I am 145 lbs maybe even more. And at times it's hard to walk. I can only stand for about 5 minutes then I have to sit down. I can only walk a short distance before mu legs feel like I have 50 lb weights on top of not being able to breath due to asthma and weight gain. Any advice would be so very much appreciated. Thanks

Hi, I have a question that I hope you can help with. Would ‘Normatec 3 Legs’ air compression be good for lymphedema (I’ve had for many years due to venous statis and neuropathy). Hopefully you have heard of them before and can say if you think they are good. Thank you so much!

As per video : It's very important though to point out that a compression pump should be used for patients who have already removed the liquid part of lymphedema through CDT. Pneumatic compression can be used as a maintenance method to ensure no accumulation! Doing compression when there is still oedema may result in higher chances of fibrosis
If I understood well she said that if the conservative therapy is not effective the person qualifies for pneumatic compression device.
@physicaltech12 my problem is with the term ineffective.. cdt cannot be ineffective if done by a properly trained specialist. Cdt through compression will remove the liquid part of lymphoedema, always. Now if there's a lot of fibrosis, then neither cdt nor pneumatic compression will remove lymphoedema, in that case it might he worth considering liposuction if one is a good candidate.
More than that, pneumatic compression when there's plenty of fluid might risk hardening oedema since it does not work together with the musclecpump
What is CDT ?
My mother in-law has been going for PT for over 5 years and it's only getting worse!
She also does it daily herself and wears a compression sleeve. A pneumatic pump was suggested her arm is sooooo swollen tight, nothing is working anymore.
