This is the correct method but a 20-30mmHg compression sock is a real test of determination, perseverance, fortitude, bravery and sheer stubbornness. And, of course, the size of sock vs. size of foot & leg can make life easier or harder. Do this every day and you won't need an expensive gym membership.
Very true! Sounds like you've had some experience.
@@OswaldsPharmacyNaperville Not a lot of experience. I'm 81 and just began using compression socks on the advice of a lymphedema therapist. Even thin people can need compression socks.
God, you are so right. I am young, I am a 28 year old nurse and I would like to keep my legs free of varicose veins and not hurt after a 12 hour shift so 20-30 really help BUT God in heaven are they difficult to put on. I have carpal tunnel and after a while trying to pull them over my legs, my hands cramp. Every single time.
@@sabrinarosario6499 Nurses work HARD. I don't believe the general public knows how tiring it can be. On your feet almost all of the time, constantly on the move. My mother did that after becoming a widow with 5 kids. I know she was a saint . . . and a nurse. My hat is off to you and here's a chair. Take a short rest and then back to work. 😇
I've been trying for 4 days to get on compression socks. I've watched so many videos on CZcams. Nothing seemed to help. I watched your video 2 times this morning. I now have the compression socks on. They are not easy to get on no matter what. But thanks to you I have them on. Thank you so much!
Thanks for watching Anita! We're so happy to hear we were able to help out. Take care!
I was thinking the same thing. They all seem so easy. 5 months later tried every gadget they have mentioned one thing they are all ok for up to knee high. Not thigh high yet I'm still struggling
It's hard
I have to tell you reading your post made me LAUGH SO HARD! I have gone through the same exact thing - how can these things help when they are next to impossible to get on by yourself?! Between being older, having bad knees, not being as limber as I once was, it's quite the ordeal! They feel so good when you get them on, but by then I'm exhausted! So thank you for the laugh & for letting me know I'm not the only one going through that!
My mother wore a stronger compression than 30. When she first started wearing them, she put them on herself. She kept plastic gloves like you wash dishes or do cleaning in the drawer with her compression socks. She wore the gloves to smooth the wrinkles. Four years before she died, she taught me and others how to put them on her. I wear one compression sock/ sleeve on my right leg. It has the zipper and it is a bear to get on. My husband assists me most mornings.
I’ve struggled for months to put socks on my husband, but this is a life changer. Even though my husband wears toeless zippered ones, it was still so always. I’m amazed by this video and thank you profusely.
I am a caregiver to the elderly and I always struggle pulling them up over the heel, but this method makes so much sense! I will try this tomorrow with my client!!
Same here....
thank your sooooo much for this demonstration. You have saved me money on a sock aid
Thank you for this video! It was so helpful for me and my dad!
This is the best video I've seen on how to put on compression socks, thanks for this video ❤
Thank you for posting this. I have arthritis in my thumbs and back. It was so painful when the sock would bunch up around my leg. The video is 2:18 long and that's about how long it takes me to put on my compression socks now. I had to pause the video several times until before I could do it on my own. I am sharing it with all of the local pharmacies, in-home health care staff and friends.
We're so happy to hear that Kathleen. Thank you so much for sharing the video!
Wish I saw this video years ago. I used rubber gloves etc, etc, etc to get these on .😩. I got these on with no problem with this video! A thousand times thank you!🤗🤗🤗🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
so awesome and I would never have thought of doing it this way. THANK YOU!
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You. So much easier to put on my new compression OTC socks. Will also use this method when putting on my other OTC socks which are a tight fit. Thank You 😊
This is the best demo I've seen on youtube! Thank you!
Thanks for watching Rudy!
@@OswaldsPharmacyNaperville Rudy? Lol
Thanks very much for this. Have had to start wearing them after developing a blood clot from wearing a boot for a ruptured achilles tendon but because of the injury I wanted an easy way to put them on to save aggravating it, and this is it 🙂

I was ordered by my doctor to wear compression socks. I tried to put one on and it took 20 minutes! Thanks to this video, it only takes me three now!
Thanks to god that i searched this after struggling to put mine for the first time , and thanks to you that i didnt damage 7 pairs that i just bought thanks 🙏🏼 .
Thank you so much. Tried for days then found this. Got them on thanks 👍🏻
I struggle so much to put on my compression socks especially since I have arthritis in my hands this was literally magic lol. Still a little bit tough but way easier than what I was doing before!
Your video did help me get my compression socks on easier. Thank you.
You made it so quick and easy. Thanks
What a brilliant demonstration this is!!! Clear, short and to the point. Thank you. Please will you do another similar video showing the easiest and quickest way to remove the stocking. Thank you.
You make it look easy. Did you use a XXXL stocking? When I try to do it's a struggle and I end up being exhausted!
Thanks John! That's not a bad idea... Stay tuned!
Thank you SO VERY MUCH for this!
It's also quite helpful to put lotion on the leg just prior to the stocking. Helps the stocking slide on.
I can’t thank you enough for this video. I’ve had so much trouble putting them on and my husband who has arthritis in his fingers, goes through pain to help me. This is brilliant!
That's great to hear Eileen. Thanks for watching!
Do you have wraparound leg bands

Thank you! Works great.
Thank you. Really makes it easier.
Thanks for watching Terry!
Omg thank you!!! This saved me I have to put this on for my brother who had open heart surgery it was a struggle , great job👏👏
We're so happy to hear it helped!
Thanks - New to this game and this helped a bunch. It works! Really
The people at the medical supply store were not helpful. Thanks again for this video.
Thanks for a great how-to video. Carry On.
Thank you...very helpful!
I just use Playtex gloves, the bumps under the fingers, helps grip them and they go right on! 😊
Wow! This is amazing.
Thank you sooooo much Ma’am, you’re Awesome 💯👍🏻
Thanks for watching!
Lifesaver! Thank you!
This is the best way ive seen to put these on
Thanks Phyllis! Glad to hear it helped out.
Thank you sooo much! I'm gonna try this. I have to spend 10 minutes putting on each sock.
Thanks Mary!
Muchas gracias!
Wow. This just saved me a ton of strength.
Thanks Nikki! So glad to hear the video helped.
Thanks for sharing.
You're welcome! Thanks for watching.
Thank you
Thanx...I needed this!
Glad to hear that Brian. Thanks for watching!
Do you have any tips for putting them on when not able to bend? (Spinal injury and about to have major abdo surgery where not allowed to bend for 4-6 weeks).
THANK YOU YOUNG LADY ‼️🧡
Thanks!
Are they supposed to be under or over your knees? Thank you!
After watching this video from Oswald's Pharmacy, I can now put on my stockings in a few minutes quite effortlessly. I do it in two steps, as shown in the video: first, I pull up the stocking to the heel; then, I pull it up to the knee. This is where I still have a problem. After I make sure there is the space of two fingers below the knee, I adjust the stocking all the way down to the calves. I end up with quite a bit of loose fabric right there - over the calves. So, I gently pull up the stocking - and I end up with the stocking ON the knee. This is a "no-no", for it hinders good circulation. Could you ask your "Stocking Specialist" what I can do to solve this problem?
Thanks very much, you've saved my mum much discomfort. Cheers.
Thanks Neil! So happy we were able to help.
This was so easy,. How come nobody ever teaches patients how to put on their compression stockings correctly? Thanks so much.
Thanks!!
Thanks for watching Mary!
Thanx a lot for the video. Got 23 to 33 only yesterday. Today first time managed to wear it myself.
If u can please do a video on how to take it off
Thank you for the video. I find it is much easier. However right foot has severe binyon & hands have some osteoarthritis. Any tips for this additional challenge? Perhaps rubber gloves mentioned above? What kind of rubber goves?
Thanks for watching B.J. Our hosiery specialist recommends gloves from any of the major hosiery manufacturers like Medi, Sigvaris or Juzo. They're all relativley similar with a tacky grip that helps put on and take off the socks. When it comes to osteoarthritis our specialist recommended using a butler. Here's what one looks like: oswaldspharmacy.com/products/medi-donning-butler/
This video is the best I've seen for putting on compression stockings. I'm a man in my late 70s. Like most of the people in the comments below, I find it quite time-consuming in the morning to put on my compression stockings. The problem I have is adjusting the top of the stockings about TWO FINGERS below the knees. After I do this, the stockings end up RATHER LOOSE at the ANKLES, where compression is needed MOST. So, I pull up the stocking to make sure that the area around the ankles is smooth and tight. And I end up with the stockings RIGHT UP UNDER the knees - with not enough space for the two fingers. Can you suggest what I can do?
Thanks J.G.! Glad to hear it helped. I sent your question to our Compression Specialist. I'll post her response as soon as I hear back.
Those are instructions for knee high. What about full leg length socks? Any way to get those on without a Medi Butler?
This is a great method. Only thing you forgot was medical exam gloves or latex dishwashing gloves, which help tremendously when smoothing the stocking/preventing snags on broken nails (inevitably they will break)
thats pretty clever...I just tried it..Damn that was much easier..TY, looks much quicker than that zolu thing or whatever its called
Thanks Duane. We're glad to hear this method worked for you. Sometimes the devices are more than you need!
Cheers for the Video clip! Apologies for butting in, I am interested in your opinion. Have you researched - Patlarny Games Earning Principle (probably on Google)? It is an awesome one off guide for treating varicose Veins without the hard work. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my close friend Aubrey after many years got excellent success with it.
Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!!!
Thanks for watching Treva!
Thank you SO MUCH! I've been struggling for YEARS putting these things on. My socks don't have toes & go up to my knees. I went to a medical supply store with a Rx from my doctor for compression socks. They measured my leg & gave me size MS of 20-30 mmHg (I don't know what that means). I told them they were way too tight & were cutting off my circulation just below the knee, leaving a deep impression there as if I'd had a tight rubber band on it all day. They said "well, we measured you." That's it. I'm not sure how they should feel but I thought the idea was to improve circulation not cut it off. I've tried pulling the sock up over my knee but as soon as I move it rolls down back under my knee. The people at the medical supply store are quite unfriendly & of no help. Can someone please tell me if the way these fit & feel - too tight at the top with a strange 'burning but cold' feeling throughout the lower leg - is the way it's supposed to be? Or should I just get some bigger generic compression socks from Walmart or Walgreens? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! 🙏
I just got mine and was measured as well. Mine feel fine... If I were you I'd ask the doctor for my script to be moved to a different site of your choosing and see if they give you the correct measurements. If it's the same id tell them the issue that your having with that particular size and maybe they can give you a different size. Hope you can get the help you need!!
Is love to see a demo of someone putting a compression sock on someone with an actual need for the socks. Her legs are not swollen. There's plenty of room to stretch the sock. This is not the case for my mom. It's a 15 minutes struggle with the two of us.
So it's like putting on stockings, got it!
I was sold the wrong size sock is why they hurt and I had a hard time putting them on. I went to another pharmacy and the lady there fitted me with the tight compression socks and they feel so good. Just wondering though, how long it takes for the measurements of the legs to change?
Glad to hear that Beverly! Change in leg measurements can happen in the first week of using compression. Though based on condition, it's often best to continue wearing compression stockings even after improvement to prevent future swelling. Either way, we recommend speaking with the physician who prescribed the stockings in the first place to give you a more educated answer. Good luck and thanks again for watching the video Beverly!
What happens if you can't tip your foot?
What if you can’t reach your foot?
I can't get them past my toes!!! They just aren't wide enough. The hospital measured my ankle and calf and leg length but didn't consider that my feet are deformed and much wider than my ankle so the ankle part is too narrow to go over my foot.
I can get it on. The problem is getting it off . It takes 3 hands to remove .Do you have a video for removing it?
We are working on getting a video up on removing the socks. We'll let you know when it is uploaded! In the mean time we recommend checking out the Medi "butler off", it is a great device for removing compression socks.
for me, getting them over the heal is the easy part, its getting them over the toes thats the hardest, but once you,ve got them over the toe area, (which is obv,ly the widest part of anyone,s foot,) the rest of it(inc the heal) is the easy part, i,ve'made a device out of a piece of plastic house guttering that i can easyley put the sock over the rounded shaped edge. (That i shaped the piece of guttering with a pair of tin snips then sanded to make smooth) i put my foot in then pull the plastic gutter contraption out & they are on, over the toe,s, the rest( inc the heal) is easy
Mine are thigh high, open toes. I need to figure out how to do this on my own after my legs have been operated on for venous reflux. They will have injections, cuts and lots of bruises. I have tried to get them on with normal legs and I finally got one on but it took twice the effort to remove them. Mine are 30/40 and hurt so bad around my foot, ankle, knee and upper thigh. I almost had a panic attack and got the scissors to cut them off. I ran my thumb nail in my leg and it started bleeding on the sock. I am on blood thinner. 911.
This will save me about 2 minutes per sock x 2 socks per day x 365 days per year = 24.3 hours per year. So over the next 50 years, you just saved me 51 days of my life minus the 2 minutes of this video. Thanks!
Stockings are a lot harder than socks in my opinion. Plus have to be careful not to get runs in them etc
all well and good for someone who can bend over or put their leg up - persons with limited ROM esp bending over would never be able to do this
alhamdulillah thank you so much. thank you so so much may Allah bless you Ameen
Your leg should be elevated when putting on these kind of hose! It's easier in the morning because your legs aren't as swollen as they will be during the day!
Great tip Teri! Thanks for watching.
stocking needs to be two finger WIDTHS below the knee. I think one writer was trying to put it two finger lengths below. No wonder it bunched up further down. I dread getting my knee length socks put on every morning by staff who haven’t a clue how to do it. It is Sooo painful!
I would love to have a stool just like this one.
What about people that cannot bend down?
There are tools like the donning butler and the butler off from Medi that make the job easier. You can find them on our website here: oswaldspharmacy.com/?s=butler&post_type=product
cant get the heel to line up, no help
Should compression socks be so tight that the might cut off cirrulation
Definitely not! If you're worried it's too tight, talk with your doctor about a lower compression level. Try to get sized by a certified fitter to make sure you get the right size.
These socks make me mad. It's my first time ever having to wear them, they bunch at the knee and hurt. This video makes it look easy but it sure isn't. Darn, I even scratched my leg trying to put them on. 😱
Sorry to hear you're having trouble Beverly! If the stockings are bunching at the knee, make sure you have the right size. Compare the measurements on the box they came in to make sure they match your leg measurements. If you don't have your leg measurements on hand, use a guide like this: www.jobstcompressioninstitute.com/uploads/Document-Library/0e59c87ef8b25ba0fc58cf20edf6c465.pdf to get them. It's best to measure early in the morning before any swelling sets in. We also recommend to keep your nails trimmed so you don't damage your stockings, or more importantly, don't scratch yourself! Look into donning gloves to prevent damage and scratching as well. Even some dish or gardening gloves will do the trick. Best of luck and thanks for watching our video!
it also depends on how tight the socks are. Compression ratings vary from 8-40 mmhg pressure.
It is so.much easier with rubber gloves, why you dont use rubber gloves?
We definitely recommend it to some patients! Alecia is more comfortable putting them on without gloves. Gloves do help though!
This is only for a 20 year old, not me.
Thanks for the hint I'll give it a try . ---- PS You've got pretty legs !!!
All of these videos are not working. We get friction burn on our fingers just trying to get them over the ball of the toes and the heel. We have to Force it over the toes and heel so hard it hurts and then do the pinch and pull method all the way up. Now we have a $50 pair of socks with runs in them on day 2. 🤬
We're sorry to hear that Jacey. What level of compression are they? If you have a nearby medical equipment store that measures for compression socks, perhaps they can measure and find a better fit and/or strength for you? Or if the physician is insistent on a higher compression level, perhaps using a device like a donning butler (oswaldspharmacy.com/products/medi-donning-butler/) will help.
Oswald's Pharmacy I don’t remember the Compression but he was measured at the store.
so many demonstrations on here are useless, the models' legs too slim for the compression so the stockings flow on easily!...this is more realistic, clear and sensible
Definitely you’ve never had a hip replacement
Your socks look an awful lot thinner than mine. 🇨🇦
Some of The people (seniors) who will be buying these socks will never be able to get them on per ANY video on CZcams! Socks are great idea but not practical to get on .. Who has purchased these without thinking there’s special directions to put a pair of socks on????
Not so easy stockings are much tighter than ones in film. Not easy for a 92 year old with no help
Thanks for watching Wendy. If the heel pocket out method doesn't work for you, we'd recommend looking into a butler. We'll need to make a video on how to use this accessory! You can see what it looks like here: oswaldspharmacy.com/products/medi-donning-butler/
I don’t know how on earth you can manage? Are donning aids any help?
Have a 400 pound person do it. Good luck
OTTIME CALZE GRANDE CONFORT 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you
Thanks!
You're very welcome. Thank you for watching Anne!
