    Great midfield player and a Scottish Football legend, I was a Rangers fan growing up as a kid and I always admired Paul McStay. Looks like he had an amazing strong family behind him and supporting him to help him achieve his dreams. Enjoyed this, thanks for uploading.

    I watched Paul McStay on numerous ocasssions. The best midfielder that Scotland has ever produced, by a mile. Only player I ever saw him out played by-THE Johan Cruyff. 2 2 against Ajax. The return leg, well Paul got his revenge and Celtic won the tie. Still the best CFC midfielder ever and on a par with Johnstone, Larsson, McNeil etc. My Favourite Scotland player ever; Paul McStay, a truely world class footballer.

    As a Rangers fans I have huge admiration for Paul McStay, he was very unfortunate to be playing with a Celtic side against that unbelievable 9 in a row era Rangers side, John Collins moved abroad and to the Premier League and there is no doubt McStay could have done the same, there were Italian clubs sniffing about for him and his style of play would have been well suited for Serie A back then.
    It doesn't happen a lot nowadays when guys stay at clubs all their days, obviously but McStay stayed for the whole of his career even though the club were struggling for large periods of that because he loved the club and he almost stayed long enough to come out the other end, if he had stayed on another season he could have done what John Greig had done and won titles either side of a 9 in a row by their greatest rivals.
    Brilliant for his nation as well. Not many videos would pop up for a Celtic player that I would watch but I'm 20mins in and haven't turned off yet, think that says a lot. Much respect!

    The Maestro, my favourite ever Celtic player. Fair play to Fergie, bringing his team up mid-season to pay tribute. No self-important English team would do that these days.

    And when he tossed his boots,strip nearly everything that's when Everton wanted him and I think he was going to leave but he must have thought long and hard and so gladly he stayed in his first love Celtic!! Always #8 " The Maestro!"

    • @SMC01ful
      @SMC01ful Před 6 lety

      The only problems for him being there would have been Everton's mid-field which was utterly top drawer in the mid-80's. Sheedy, Reid, Steven, Bracewell, with good shifts from Richardson. As an LFC fan, after Souness left, for a time, I believe they had the best mid-field in Europe. In saying so I think McStay, would have probably displaced Bracewell who was an extremely consistent, but lacked McStay's X-Factor.

    My idol growing up! Couldn't be matched in my eyes! And it got better when say signed John Collins from Hibs and all the papers said the two couldn't play together? Think Collins was the first player in Scotland to wear Predator boots?🍀

    Better than one half of the finest midfield engine rooms in the history of the club, Scottish football and one of the best in Europe? I disagree. McStay was my favourite player during the 80s, but, while he probably edges it on skill, he didn't possess Auld's spark or drive.

    Who are you going to take out of midfield for the Maestro? Murdoch? Auld? Never. McGrain and Larsson would cut it, as would Dalglish, but not the Maestro, I'm afraid, as much as I love him.

      Ian Clark There wasn't any interest from ANY other club hence the reason he cancelled his transfer request, as for tearing a new arse hole against England, I think you find it was once during a school boy International.
      Ps he missed a penalty :D LOL
