IGN review was very shallow compared to this. You took the time to explain the systems in depth, a great thing for non-JRPG connoisseurs like me. Good job!
That's why you read IGN's review, and not watch the video review.
GameXplain really shouldn't be wasting time explaining things like that for a review. All a review should do is tell you whether the game is worth playing or not and should not be overly long. Ign did better.
Whatever it's subjective not every review on the net needs to be short and simple. Some ppl prefer a more detailed review and really want to learn as much as possible before buying. Other ppl such as yourself, prefer things short and simple wanting to learn about the games nuances themselves.
Jeremy P ign actually had s pretty decent review for this game, No need for the hate
Retro Soul It's all about individual taste. Personally, I prefer Xplain's review because it gives a good quick tutorial of how the basic game mechanics works.
"And despite the wonderful first impression the game provides, it's actually the beginning that's the weakest."
Holy shit.
PK Trash What?
Folks in the comments complaining about him not completely finishing the game. I would normally agree, but in a game like this without a larger narrative tying them all together? It doesn’t really matter. You’d effectively get the same review whether he completed 2 characters or 8.
-You’re going to like some stories more than others
-The party scarcely interacts with one another
-There’s no overall narrative
-The enemies get trickier as you go along. With the final boss being the pinnacle
-The game is best enjoyed in small bursts.
Etc. etc.
These are all things that hold true regardless. Unless you want Derrick to start giving spoilers, the review is about as informative as it’s gonna get.
Agreed. Maybe he could do an updated review once he's completed all the stories, just in case his opinions have changed.
But, if he misses the best story, wouldnt that affect score?
"The best story" is subjective, so id doesn't really matter because he likely finished the stories he liked best first anyway.
I suppose you're right, Im just looking for an excuse to buy this game even though it looks just ok
He isn’t able to confirm if there is or isn’t a final chapter or any other extra end game content.
He cant confirm if there any kind of new game plus or if there is any thing that boost replay value.
He can’t tell us the total amount of side quest and side content.
He cant really give an accurate review of the overall quality of the narratives or (or narrative if there is a final chapter).
These are all valuable pieces of info a consumer should get from a review, and this review doesn’t deliver
That was a really well done and in depth review Derrick that also doesn't spoil anything. Anyone who thinks you need to sit down and finish a game you already put 40+ hours in (that also doesn't have one single narrative behind it in any meaningful way) to truly know how you feel about a game clearly don't know how reviews work and are lying to themselves. When I played persona 5, I already knew 40 hours in that I absolutely loved the game, and seeing the story through to the end didn't change that. Yeah there are some plot bumps here and there, but it would have had to completely jump off a cliff with its story and completely change game play styles for me to change my feelings on it and that's a game where its overarching story is the most important thing. Good on you btw for explaining where you were at when you started to write this review it really helps with review honesty.
dascottman33 YOU'LL NEVER SEE IT COMINGGGGGGGG
I strongly disagree. The last hours of a game can change IMMENSILY how you feel about a game. Maybe you're in love with a game when you're at 40 hours mark, but then the game goes on and on and on and it becomes tiredsome. Bravely Default was a great game, then it forces you to repeat everything you've already done for like 5 times, and it's a great mistake. If you would not have reached that point of the game, you would think it's a perfect game, while it's not. So, a game MUST be finished before a review, that's my opinion. Otherwise, it's just an early impression.
But in Bravely Default's defense, its content comes from the side quests... not the main story. Once you get through Chapter 4, you can easily ignore the side quests and finish the main objectives with ease. That would be repetitve. However, the changes come from how the other characters change after that point. That's what breaks the repetition (well for me). For you were to rush to "complete" the game, you would be missing out on the parts of the game that were fun and interesting.
In my opinion, playtime > completion. The game might change in the final chapters, but that doesn't matter much if getting there is a pain. It also completing a game doesn't always mean that the player got to experience everything the game had to offer (which in this case would be the super dungeon that most reviewers didn't have in their review).
I really can't wait for this game! Good job on the review Derrick and I look forward to hearing your final thoughts once you finish the game.
I'm glad the review didn't make the game sound like shit to you.
GameExplain reviews games way more in depth than IGN.
Karl Singh true
IGN in 2018 LUL
Karl Singh but some people just don't have time to sit through a 12 min review
Karl Singh Yeah but at least IGN finished the game before reviewing it
they serve different audiences. IGN focuses on getting you the vital information quickly, Gamexplain goes into more detail. There are channels that go even more depth and go on for almost an hour too. Depends what you like and how much you need to know before getting the game.
I swear the number of people complaining that a reviewer hasn't finished every story is insane! This was still a wonderfully deep review that I really think fleshed out the nuances of the game and the experience one had playing it. It was never stated that this was the definitive opinion on the game, just the overall feel and experience. Also, if you've never seen GameXplain's reviews before, there are almost always follow up discussions with the other people that help flesh out things missed in the reviews so don't sweat it. People are acting like just because only a couple of the stories were fully completed that all the rest were completely ignored. For all we know, he could be on the final chapters of the others but wanted to make sure that those who were interested in the game knew the pluses and minuses on day 1.
It's more the principle of the thing and while gamexplain does a great job I think people are conditioned by other, bigger companies like gamespot and game informer to expect crappy reviews of games they havent even finished.
Also, the staff is low enough with gamexplain that I know what kind of games their few reviewers like, but at bigger companies I've never become familiar with anyone opinion so it's not really all that helpful
Though, the problem is a review is about your money, and whether or not the game is worth it, without finishing it, how do they know if it's worth your time and money? As a review, it should be finished in order to get an accurate reading on whether the cost was worth it.
Everyone wants to watch reviews day 1 or even before the game is released yet they also want the reviewer to 100% the game. That is near impossible. Reviews are just ones opinions of their experience they’ve had so far. Take the review for what it’s worth then play the game yourself & have your own opinion on the game.
I think they're either children complaining who don't understand that you do not need to finish, I'll say a book, in order to know if you are liking said book or not, or people with very, very low IQs...
Beezus Hrist That's a fallacy. You can still find the review helpful and informative as well as find the lack of finishing upsetting.
This game just keeps on blowing my mind!
When you think you’ve discovered most of the game by getting all the characters, the secondary job mechanic is introduced and suddenly, the game mechanics are essentially doubled!
Once you’ve made the first complete round around the bay, you suddenly realize you’ve only discovered less than half the world!
When you think you’ve got a good move-set that works, you suddenly realize how much more there is to the game, and how different each character is in combat!
Other things to note is how absolutely amazing some sites are, how expansive the world feels at times, how beautifully the music is composed, and how well the dialogue is made, the voice acting (in both Japanese and English) is preformed, and the stories are written!
All I really miss is a final plot-arch that includes all the characters... other than that, the game is fantastic!
I absolutely love this game!
Jesus!. That all sounds amazing bro?. Now I need to get on this.
A post game dungeon has been confirmed that ties the lore together haven’t gotten there yet
I NEED IT!
JD6
I don’t need it.... I don’t need it..... I NEEEEEEDDDDD ITTTT
Connor8888 damn it I was going to say that.
Lol
I want it in me!
Great review! I cant wait to get the game tomorrow. You need to do a discussion about this game with someone once you finish all the stories. I'd love to hear some final impressions (once I've finished it myself).
I've had mine Pre ordered for a while. Demo sold me on it. Will be perfect to play...
*ON THE GO!!!*
Man, this looks very intriguing - May make me actually take the plunge and purchase a Switch. Saw a few screens of Octopath this morning and was instantly blown away by the style, colorization, everything... Made me wonder if it's all style over substance, but that does not seem to be the case! Excellent review here. You're a very good speaker, awesome video upload, thank you!
As an aside, I'm a bit of an obsessive when it comes to Shining Force (the turn-based strategy RPG iterations), and this style in particular makes me dream... What a freaking style this would be to express Shining Force IV, should something so miraculous ever come to fruition. I know Refrain came out recently, but I'm just not that interested (need that turn-based grid action of SF1, SF2, SF3).
I started with H’annit in the Demo. I like her ability to capture animals and use them later. And the way the story is told is very reminiscent of SaGa Frontier for PSOne. The characters cross paths, but rarely meet up, if ever.
This battle system sounds like an even deeper version of what was in Bravely Default. Which was already one of my favorite battle systems in an RPG. This game sounds amazing
Antonio Morales -- My thought too. Storing points for additional attacks is almost 1:1 with Bravely Default.
The team that made bravely default are the ones who made this new game
what I hate is I never really got a chance to even try out Bravely Default and I saw it in gamestop and almost grabbed it
Jeremy -- Get it. Totally worth a playthrough.
i know its definitely something I'll add to my collection once I'm done with Octopath Traveler
Good to have a great third party exlusive for Nintendo. Doesn't happen very often.
HeavyDonkeyKong Switch is making it more likely
It's on Steam mate
Glad you made the review and played the game! Hope that you make a follow-up review to get the full picture
"There doesn't seem to be any final chapter."
*Rocks back and forth* Nobody plays to the end, Nobody plays to the end...
THERE ARE SECRET JOBS???? OMG I'M SO EXCITED!!!
I think i suffered from Octo-addiction after doing the first chapter for the first 4 characters. I picked the knight as my starter, then went after the dancer, then the doctor, and now the merchant. My favorite boss so far was the boss of the merchant's story where you fight the pirate brothers. It was actually the first boss the made me use olives of life (revival item) mostly because i did not know that the remaining pirate would have a special attack. Maybe i should kill them both at the same time so this would not happen, oh wait, i don't know how much health they have, other then their names turning red to show that they are near death! Can't wait for chapter 2!
Would you recommend playing through the game with 4 characters but only focusing on one story, then focusing on another story when you finish one, picking up a new party member and so on?
Why does the wait for Friday feel so long right now? lol
Jazzy Jefferson Right? And even then for me, my Amazon tracking says it'll be here on Friday...by 11PM. That's almost Saturday! Really hoping their estimates are wrong and I get it earlier lol
Ikr? Tempted to tr and sleep again to make it go a little faster
perfect time to play the 3 hour demo if you havent
Lol. I gotta wait till Wednesday once I get paid.
The way I see it if you've played a game for 45 hours still haven't finished it and think it's worth a buy it's worth a buy. Maybe the other 50 hours of the game aren't fun but at least you got 45 hours of fun out of it and that's more fun then I get out of a lot of games.
(PS I've never had a game where the first half was fun and the second half wasn't an equal or better experience)
Thanks for the review! As a fan of Bravley Default I'll be sure to pick this one up!
He has finished it twice, i think.
So it’s kinda like bravely default when it comes to the battle system?
about character stories converging: Tressa's mother talks about the region Ophelia lives in. The fallen kingdom that Cyrus teaches to his pupils at the beginning of his story is the kingdom that Olberic once served (Hornburg). Also the dragonstone that Therion is sent to search after could relate to the sacred flames of Ophelia's story. I'm not sure how Primrose and H'aanit could intertwine with the other stories, but so far I firmly believe that the stories will gradually connect.
Was finally going to get Splatoon 2 today. Guess I’m putting it on hold again for this
As someone who has played splatoon for over 500 hours, you made the right choice.
It was that good imo
This is a fantastically well-written and well-presented review. But my favourite thing about it is how the reviewer pronounces ‘on’ as ‘awn’. It’s seriously lovely.
If you go into the setting, you can turn off those dark corners. I’m still not sure what it changes (besides the darkness of course) but it’s a good option if you don’t like it being so dark!
Very good review! I don't have the game but it looks amazing. Thanks for doing a in-depth review. You are the best.
My copy arrives tomorrow, can't wait! Still playing through Shining Resonance Refrain though so, as you recommend Derrick, I'll play a chapter or two in Octopath then play some SRR and repeat. Good way to play two JRPGs simultaneously lol
Sean Diamond same with me also add ys8 but I'm kinda near the end of ys8
how are you liking Shining Resonance Refrain? Thinking about picking it up.
crispyexcal I'm 7 hours in and I'm really liking it! So far, I don't agree with the reviews that are 6-7/10 and say it's probably closer to an 8/10 right now for me (possibly higher). Combat is a lot of fun and there's so many aspects to it I sometimes get confused lol. Music is nice, English VA is surprisingly very good all around (a few aren't the best but most are great), the story is coming together a bit and seems interesting, there's some slightly romantic interactions that may be awkward for some but nothing too sexual or anything. For a game with a lot of, what would seem like fanservicey designs, it's tame on the actual fanservice in game. I still have a lot of the main story to complete and new mechanics are being introduced often so I'd definitely recommend it if it looks interesting to you
crispyexcal You can grab the demo from the eshop. I went ahead and did that, can't say I was impressed with the game, though. I'll be waiting for it to get cheaper. Not entirely a fan of the combat, not sure if it gets a bit more fleshed out later on.
PurpleTrident combat gets fleshed out very quickly actually. The demo doesn't do a good job of showing off much of anything imo lol. I'd suggest watching some footage from SEGA America or just on the internet because combat gets pretty fun with the B.A.N.D. System, bonds, tuning your instruments and the aspects. I wish the demo went at least a little farther so people could get to understand it more.
Please do a "light spoilers" review or something after you finish, would be nice to get info on if there's a final chapter, what to expect from postgame, etc...
The bonus points remind me of the "Brave" attacks in BRAVELY DEAFAULT one of the best RPGs I've ever played, and that's why I'm hyped for this one.
Thank you for the deep review! It’s good to see someone have a realistic take on it. This game is phenomenal, and in my opinion, game of the year. I know some people will not enjoy it, but growing up with turn-based RPGs, this game scratches an itch long forgotten. I can’t stop talking about this game! I’ve posted three videos, even, with two more to come! I think this game is worth picking up. If you don’t usually play JRPGs, at least give the demo a try. What can that hurt? Who knows, you might discover a genre you didn’t know you enjoyed.
Can't believe it's been since last September I've been looking forward to this!
another great and informative review by Derrick
Out of 10?
Derrick: Like it a lot.
Febin Kalambukadu Gamexplain doesn't do numerical scores
whatever they use to
I think Kirby triple deleux was first game that they stopped doing numbers
Theyoungladd Oh, good to know
so just to make sure i understand this since i finished the first chapter of primrose then got busy if i want to go to another characters story i just go to where it shows the character on the map
hibiki847 yeah then you'll find that character and talk to them to do their opening chapter
My first thought about this game is SaGa Frontier 1. Remember that game? Start as any character and travel to find T260G, any character's story will be a breeze to go through.
If you haven’t beat the game then this isn’t even a review, it’s an early impression
Just wanted to comment to say this was a very well done review!
Best freaking game in the last couple of years.
love you Derrick ❤
Something to make note of, some people who data mined some info found a song called Final battle (you can find it on CZcams, sounds amazing) that many people that have finished a few individual storylines haven’t encountered yet.
So there is still hope for a “final chapter” of sorts but best to keep expectations low and be excited for what we know is in the game for sure :)
You have to beat all 8 stories and complete 2 specific side quests to unlock the final dungeon. It's called "Gate of Finis".
10:52 You can actually turn up the brightness in the game's settings.
Good Review. Can't wait to play it tomorrow.
yhea the game should have been finnished before reviewed but how he reviews still gives a full image of the game! Best game channel reviews thank youu
From what ive played so far this game is great. And the visuals are stunning. Ive never seen or played a game that looks like this. I love the parts of the world ive seen thus far, even if its not exactly full of people in some areas.
To make the game brighter you can go into settings and turn off the Dark Corners setting. It's on by default.
I can't wait to pick this up tomorrow!
Think i just gonna stick with 4 characters on first playthrough (and then 2nd one with the other ones), or is this not possible or a bad idea??
Great Review btw!
You want to do all 8 in the same playthrough, because that's the only way to get the final dungeon.
I'm sure I'll really enjoy it but in the back of my head I'm going to be thinking I'd be enjoying a Bravely Third more. Boosting and the job mechanics just sound like a step down from their counterparts in Bravely
Another problem is that for chapter 2 of most characters the recommended level is 20. I have 5 characters and simply cannot do the second chapter for any of them because I just get destroyed in combat trying to get to their respective chapters
Thanks for the good review. As much as I love the art style and music the battle system just doesn't click. So it's on hold for now
David Traumann the battle system was probably my favourite part. Its the best turn based combat in a long time imo. It's very deep.
ForgedHorizons I’d like it of the enemy had health bars. XD
That's why you pick Cyrus as your first character, not only does he automatically reveal one weakness of each enemy type per battle, but he also has a scan ability.
Battle system feel so good. You need to figure out how to break their defense. Its like a puzzle in itself.
its definitely a game to pick up and complete in small sections day by day.
Getting my switch in August and this is one of the two games i am getting for it.
Other reviews confirm that later in the game that the stories converge
Those reviews are wrong.
There's 1 post game dungeon that works as the games "True ending" but all that does for the story is show that there was an invisible hand of influence in each story. The team never adventures as a real team or talks as a real team, and that 1 loose thread between each story isn't really enough to truly say they converge. Rather than the stories converging it's more like they just added a 9th story at the very end when it couldn't matter anymore.
This looks great.
I wish the PC version of the Trails in the Sky games would come out on Switch too, that's a massively underrated epic JRPG series that I recommend to anyone. It's more story heavy in a traditional way, but also full of nostalgia for JRPG fans.
Already preordered. I will pick it up tomorrow at lunch.
Thanks for the review. Picking it up tomorrow. I don’t mind that you haven’t 100% the game yet. You have clearly put enough hours into the game to give a fair analysis of whether the game is worth picking up or not. I find myself agreeing with you guys on most games so I’m glad I got your thoughts prior to purchasing it. Thanks for all you guys hard work.
Kinda reminds me of Saga Frontier from the 90s...Nostalgia.....but the music is freaking amazing!!! The background drawing is stunning and just brings a lot of memories from old RPGs..overall love it!!!
So happy I preordered Octopath Traveler! As a huge Golden Sun fan I got all the right vibes from the first demo and even more so with the second demo. This game with the story, graphics, replayability, and stunning soundtrack will satisfy me in the JRPG genre for this year and my desire for a long awaited new Golden Sun title. Can't wait to play it this weekend 😄
Thanks for posting this comment. I played this game on the gba when I was a kid and still think about it from time to time. Could never remember the title and now I can finally replay it.
Turning off corner shadows lets you enjoy the sights more btw ^^ was introduced in 2nd demo and i love it
Just commented because he said world looks dark and you can see corner shadows are on ^^
That's a shame I was very excited for the game's way of story telling as it is similar to dragon quest 4's intro chapters to each party member however Octo doesn't seem to have the same structure to the story so all their stories don't overlap and its lacking in the character banter and those were the things I was most looking forward to seeing.
Mullac Senpai Exactly the same for me, although im still going to get at and think of it as 8 mini stories alone.
It's kind of in the title though. "Octopath," 8 paths. It's 8 different stories.
PurpleTrident Yeah but they all cross paths and join the party..... but with not much interaction or one big bad to unite them
paul slade I can see why people wouldn't be happy, but from the start Nintendo marketed the game as 8 characters with their own story. This is what I expected, at the very least.
PurpleTrident I suppose, i will still get it but i just thought it would be nice to have something more than just "Hello join my party, "ok". If you see my point.
i'd like to see a modern rpg try 3d characters on 2d prerendered backgrounds. they could probably create some amazing looking prerendered environments with modern graphics engines.
Amazing review :)
Thanks for the review! I'm still confused how you can play characters separately, but meet up with the others along the way because, like, aren't their levels going to be mismatched? I guess there was kind of this issue with FF6, too, if you spent too much time with the same party members. But for Octopath Traveler, do you need to switch to the other characters from time to time in order to keep their levels more or less matched?
Yep, levels are mismatched and you must level up those characters
Ok. Good to know. Thanks!
I'd rather try this myself when I get a Switch. It's one I've been looking forward to also! It looks great!
A great review! detailed and unbiased
GameXplain and Arlo make the best reviews.
This Game is Complex and REALLY BEAUTIFULI also fell in love with this one at the first time I saw it
2:13 there is a secret final boss, wich is linked with the secret job bosses
There should be a final chapter after you beat the other 8 stories. Bravely Default and Second have amazing endgames
There's a final dungeon that explains how the stories are connected.
I hate the lack of interaction chose olberic went to tressa she's just like oh you'll help?
Then they're in the cave olberics just gone and she gets saved by random merchant guy even though olberics like...a super knight he could easily deal with pirates so they just make him vanish for that part >.> I value story over gameplay in an rpg so I'm disappointed Dx
Going to go pick this up now. Can’t wait.
It's 12:00, It's the 13th today, the game is released...
Thanks for the update!
Respect for being honest that the game isn't complete. But hope you'll look at it again after you've finished? I was keen to at least know how it was holding up as the demo did make me a little concerned about the story structure. But it sounds like it should be just fine really.
If I understood correctly, if you want to recruit all of the characters in one of their paths, you have to go through their prologues IN the other's path? Like if I want to recruit Tressa when I started as Ophilia, I have to go through her prologue story even though I'm playing Ophilia's story? And I'd have to do this with everyone in every path if I want to have all options available?
I guess yeah
Yeah! I obtained 2 additional characters but due to the time limit i was only able to visit the towns adjacent to the dancer (the thief and apothecary guy).
You can probably go to any chpt 1 town and collect a character in any order.
You can opt to skip the prologue cutscene and head straight to the dungeon of that character’s prologue.
Just a tip tho, if you start with the dancer girl get her AOE (multi darkness atk) first. It will help a lot if you choose the apothecary guy 2nd.
It's just that it means you'll eventually have to play the eight prologues eight times if you want to play through all of the paths with all the characters. I'm already tired just thinking about it.
You don't have to play every characters' prologue in order to recruit the character you wants. You can literally recruit nobody and play as Ophilia. Although, if you do that, it would be hard. Besides, you can just skip the Prologue and go straight to the dungeon where you can face the first boss of that character's chapter 1 story. For me, even though I already played Primrose in the first demo, I will play her again and go counter-clock wise fashion when it comes to recruiting every characters.
I guess I'm not understanding how the game works at all. I'll just watch some playthroughs tomorrow.
Just a few hours to play it yay! I would be very surprised if there's no global arc at the end of the game at all. I mean otherwise the game would essentially have no ending of its own. And please if for whatever reason (like people getting the game early) you know the answer please don't spoil it here, I don't want to know (and most likely most people don't want either).
Very excited about the unlockables jobs and how secondary jobs are handled. I'm afraid the game isn't using all its potential because of the 8 stories structure and the lack of jobs and skills overall but it still looks super super good.
Please give final thoughts when you finish it
I have been saving for a switch and would be able to get it soon, but the number of games I wanna play would kill me slowly. Splatoon, Mario Kart, Pokemon, Fire Emblem, Legend of Zelda, Monster Hunter, Smash Bros, Xenoblade and now this. Help
On a more serious note though, no matter how many times people told me to move on to a "better console" my stand will always be the same, Nintendo Games just suits me more
AWESOME VIDEO
I've always had an obsessive personality, so grinding and/or repetition have never been a problem for me. Sounds like I'm going to love this then since the short comings mean nothing to me.
I do plan to get this game but not now I still need to finish Wolfenstein 2, South Park, Mario Tennis, Kirby, and almost done with Doom and Mario odyssey when I’m done with at least two or three of them I’ll pick it up but I still need to pick up Captain Toad, Hyrule Warriors, and Donkey Kong as well man so many games to play so little time. Especially when you combine time for family, friends, work, girlfriend, gym, pets, etc I won’t explain the rest what I do lol but playing video games is at a premium for me
I feel like with this game they are really putting out feelers for a possible FFVI remakes.
I’M NOT SAYING ITS CONFIRMED
Damn the pixel art is gorgeous
One of my favorite games to bring up to switch owners at work (Gamestop)
I can’t WAIT for this game’s release tomorrow!!!! It’s going to keep me busy summer long.
When I get the game, I think I’m gonna start with H’aanit. She seems cool!
7:49 Octopath has D&D style Multiclassing?!
I'm conflicted. I'm disappointed that you put out a review for a game that you didn't finish.
On the other hand, I don't think rushing through a game to get the review out is the way to do it either.
I have a bad taste in my mouth, but I can't present a solution either. Kind of hypocritical, I guess, but I can't help feeling that way.
EDIT: Actually, I'm happy that you made it clear that you didn't finish the game, and making a separate review once you finish all 8 stories would kind of fix this. Give it some thought, okay? Thanks!
OmegaMetroid93 now this comment is very insightful
OmegaMetroid93 I agree that he should do another review when he's done with the game. There has been instances where I rushed through a game for some reason and it makes it much less enjoyable with examples being Nier Automata and Super Mario Odyssey for me.
GameXplain usually does do a wrap-up review once they finish a game, so don’t worry. The only problem is the game publishers don’t send reviewers a copy early enough to beat a 50+ hour game but they still want a review out before the game drops.
Wow good feedback I'm impressed.
Big RPGs are hard to finish quickly and often when you get a review copy you are required to have a review up on a certain day. It's not ideal to have a review deadline, but if he feels confident he has seen most of the content I think it is a complete review. I don't think it's a problem to make a review once you've reached the final boss or even final dungeon/world, just because you've not seen the credits.
Heck, I've played some bad games and almost immediately had a strong and clear enough opinion that I could write a valid review of why the game is bad, even though I didn't subject myself to verifying there was no enjoyable part in the last 80% of the game.
I played the 1st demo and the 1hr demo. I gotta say i knew from the 1st one, day one for me.
Dancer girl is best~
i have 21 ours and still love it and want more, actually one of the best games since long
I play about one jrpg a year, this is easily my favorite 2018 jrpg. Very excited for it.
Would you recommend this now? Looking for a good RPG to play. Thanks.
@@moonboy5851 I enjoyed it. I think I had my hopes too high, so I didn’t enjoy it quite as much as I hope to, but I don’t regret getting it. Been awhile so I don’t remember the details, but it’s a bit basic as far as gameplay goes. If you like the old 90s rpg, you should have fun with this. There is a demo I believe.
Side note, triangle strategy is another game worth looking at. Same team that made this game. Too much talking for me, but the game itself is great.
@@pct87 thanks for the response! (Even though your original post was 3 years ago, lol).
Ok I’ll check it out. I’m a big fan of FF7 and Suikoden. Looking for something nostalgic I guess :)
So excited for this game skajskssk
Also, Derrick could you add a part 2 to this review after you complete it?
This is the "Final Fantasy" game i have been waiting for since FFX.
When playing in docked mode i started to notice characts have vertical/horizontal lines moving (in battles). If you see it you can't unsee it... :/
i've been waiting weeks for these reviews. i didn't want to buy a switch for just odyssey and botw.. this may be the game that finally gets me to cave. not that this is a system seller, but what finally makes me purchase the console.
Demo was fun but the amount of grinding is brutal and I don’t have the patience in my old age to play these types of games anymore. Captain Toad is what I am going to buy. The Wii U version was a blast.
I can’t wait to get this game tomorrow! It seems like a more forgiving and exciting Final Fantasy VI!
Gonna pick my copy next week!
I am in love it with it. 18hours later the weekend is over and my first reaction awesome, Demo oh not so cool but Collectorsedi is nice but oh boy it is so good
